directed the question towards Nick.

“We prepare ourselves… for the future.” He remarked.

The next week proved to be stressful as the implementations of multiple plans were put into effect. The downstairs windows were boarded up completely, leaving enough space in the upstairs window for a gun barrel to squeeze through. Eric established a sleeping schedule to account for any night attacks by the undead. Any supplies they found were rationed off, a big supply hidden in the cars outside, inaccessible for them.

Nick practiced his marksman skills on live targets while Eric used an old baseball bat---he discovered in the basement---to thin out the horde surrounding their house.

Nick taught Ashley how to properly use her handgun without wasting shots, as they were scarce to find.

After a week, however, they ran out of food. The only reserve they kept was frozen food, but the gas wasn’t working. They were at a standstill until they could scavenge food that they could eat.

The memories of the food stuffed in the cars convinced them to go and try their luck. Nick peered out of the window, watching as a few stragglers passed by. He grabbed his M4 and went to the front door. Eric and Ashley waited for him there, both equipped with their weapons.

“You guys ready?” He asked.

“As ready as I can be,” Eric muttered, his hands slightly trembling.

 Ashley nodded her head.

“Okay, good. Let’s go over the plan one final time. I’ll be in charge of protecting both of you. While I’m taking care of the undead, you two scavenge the cars. Take everything you can and return here.” They both nodded. “Let’s go, then.”

Ashley opened the door, having Nick leave first. Once outside, he searched the area for any stragglers. He brandished a dagger and killed any zombies, leaving the M4 for when a horde appeared. His kills were quick but messy; an amateur in the art of killing wasn’t good for the apocalypse.

Meanwhile, Eric and Ashley darted to the cars, grabbing backpacks and boxes of supplies, and leaving them in the living room. They nearly stripped the cars of their contents, leaving the car intact and the gasoline behind.

Once everything was collected, Ashley shouted out to Nick, taking his attention off of the zombies. He headed back inside, the door closing and locking after him. He then turned around and peered through a small gap, watching as the stragglers reached the door, banging on it.

“Well, that was a good trip. We manage to reclaim our supplies.” Eric noted.

“Ration out the supplies and count up how much we have. It should be a while---at least a few months or so.”

Eric nodded, counting up the supplies before putting them on the shelves and fridge. The fridge was working, the electricity still pouring through its wires.

“You’re right about how long we got. 2 months to say the least. It’s enough for us to get fortified, but we’re going to need a lot more than this to survive here.”

“I got that. At least for now, we don’t have to worry about food. We’ll figure it out when our supplies begin dwindling.”

“There’s the supermarket.” Ashley chimed in. “It should have some supplies.”

“Perfect, we’ll hit that place.”

A few weeks later, the supplies were dwindling faster than expected. The electricity stopped working, spoiling the frozen food and meats. Everything left was canned or bottled goods. This forced them to make a trip to the supermarket earlier than expected. Nick prepared for the trip but denied Eric and Ashley’s request of joining him, deciding to embark towards the supermarket alone. They were against his plan, initially, but went along with it after he showed off his marksman skills. They allowed him to, but Ashley forced him to promise to return soon. A pinkie promise saw Nick leave the house and head towards the supermarket.

He ventured through the streets, in plain daylight, and made his way to the supermarket. He went towards the backside of the supermarket and entered through the unlocked backdoors. Drops of blood were scattered on the door’s handle.

Ignoring the sight, he sneaked inside and went through the aisles, picking up cans and packaged goods. He discarded the rotting fruit and spoiled drinks, picking up anything and everything that wouldn’t spoil quickly.

After clearing the isles, he went to the backdoors and lightly pressed on it. However, he felt like he was being watched, glancing at his right. His suspicions turned out to be correct as two females stared at him from semi-darkness. Light trickled in from an overhead window, exposing them. Nick jumped before brandishing his M4 and pointing it at them. “Who are you?” He asked.

“Don’t shoot!” shrieked the older female. “We don’t want to hurt you.”

“Who are you?” He repeated, taking a step closer to

“I’m Liliana. She’s my sister, Alexia.” Liliana said.

“What do you want?”

“Shelter! This supermarket has been broken into three times before by bandits and zombies. They’ve already taken ten lives. I don’t want to add another two to their body count.”

“What do I get out of it?” Nick asked.

“I can show you where they store more of the supplies.” She said. Nick hesitated to answer as his hand lightly pressed on the door.

“I’ll take that deal,” he responded. Liliana nodded and turned around. The child at her side followed after her. Liliana took Nick to the back of the supermarket and showed him the untouched supplies.

“Help me take these supplies and I’ll lead you to my home,” Nick told her. Liliana nodded, grabbing a box. Alexia glanced up at Nick, tilting her head.

“Will we be safe?”

Alexia’s question caught Nick off-guard. He took a moment to collect his thoughts before answering. “You will,”

Nick then took Liliana and Alexia back to his house and introduced them to Eric and Ashley. After he finished introducing them, he gave them a job and issued them a spot in the cramped two-story building. Liliana and Alex were put into the work and followed the same protocols and rules as the rest.

A week passed with no significant events aside from a minor push by zombies to get inside, which was repelled effortlessly. Unfortunately, nearly three months later, a new problem arose. Eric, who went on a scavenger mission towards the opposite way of the supermarket, noticed an enormous horde forming not far from them. He returned and reported it to the rest of the group.

Nick decided to declare an evacuation as the horde was too much for an M4, AR-15, and a Glock to handle. This decision was set in stone, leaving no room for discussion. They decided to head out the next day utilizing the cars that Nick and Eric’s parents attempted to use to escape the city. They began preparing for their journey, escaping Lost City and it's zombified inhabitants.

She crawled through bushes to avoid being seen by the zombies. They reacted ever so slowly to the noises the plants made, as she trampled them. She stopped herself, waiting for the zombies’ attention to be driven away by the loud barks of a dog. Once they did, she continued crawling, soon coming across her target. She glanced towards the zombies, pounding their rotting arms on the metal gate. Behind the metal fence were her siblings and trusty canine. The canine, named Rox, was luring the zombies towards him and away from her.

She stood up and sprinted into the building she had her eyes set on. A small and cramped convenience store had lured her eyes as she checked her bag, filled with air. They were running on fumes.

She opened her bag and began throwing in everything edible. It didn’t matter what it was, as long as they could feast on it.

After two minutes, she finished packing her bag and rushed out of the back, beginning her journey back to reach her siblings.

Meanwhile, her younger siblings and Rox watched as her silhouette vanished into the store. The youngest, Bianca, looked up at her brother for support. Scotty patted her head while whispering “we’ll be fine” to her. However, he didn’t trust his own words.

He wielded a .357 magnum with a stubby barrel. The silver-plated magnum was an amazing sight to behold as it looked extremely clean and well-kept.

Scotty could barely handle it, nearly blasting his shoulder out of its socket after unloading the entire cartridge into a few zombies to save his older sister. However, as dangerous as it was, it remained a precious item to him. An heirloom that was given to him by his grandfather before his death.

“Don’t press the trigger,” Bianca muttered, visibly scared of the weapon. Scotty nodded and holstered the magnum.

He muttered an apology, scanning the area for his older sister, Jennifer. Jenn, as they called her, was the oldest at 20 while Scotty was in his mid-teens, and Bianca being the youngest at eight-years-old. These three traveled with their german shepherd Rox, pronounced as rocks, moving from their hometown of Glades, Wisconsin to Brightburn, Missouri.

Throughout their five day journey, Scotty had wondered about their objective. Jenn always talked of a safe haven, a government-funded community named Heaven Pillars, as their main objective. She had learned of Heaven Pillars through a small band of survivors calling themselves the “Mccormick convoy” after the leader. The convoy of trucks had rolled into their path, feeding them information, before venturing off to a city in California. They disappeared as soon as they appeared.

“I see her,” Bianca whispered, pointing at a silhouette crawling on the ground. Scotty nodded, standing up and pulling Rox away from the gate. Behind them was a two-story house. They were resting at the house for the night before continuing for another day towards Heaven Pillars, embedded in Moonhaven, Missouri.

Jenn got to the gate. Scotty rushed over and unlocked the gate. Jenn got in, turning to fire into the zombies near them. Bianca covered her ears, looking away from the head explosions.

“Let’s go inside before they see us,” Jenn told them.

“Okay, let’s go Rox.” Scotty took Rox into the house; Bianca following after them. Jenn lingered for a moment, gawking at the sights around her. The village they were staying in was ravaged by explosions from an unseen force. The government could have played a part in the village’s destruction, but who knew. Or cared.

“We’re almost there, mom and dad. They’ll live a new life amidst this mess. They’ll survive.”

Hello All!

The Zombie Universe franchise is shaky at the moment. The original series followed Nick and his group ran from 2015 - 2019 before ending with the third entry. However, that ending will be scrapped, instead, pushing the group into a five short-story installment saga. That’s not all! A ten-twelve, flash fiction length, episode series will follow the fifth installment and continue the story. This will create the original saga.

As the term “original” applies, there was a reboot of the saga. After losing motivation for the original series, I rebooted it in early 2020 with The Zombie Infection: The Dead Walks. This reboot paved a way for an onslaught of new series---which will be debuting---hopefully soon. As for The Dead Walks, it will be given two sequels and a flash-fiction series post-trilogy. Heaven & Hell released in 2021 while The Dead Remains---the end of the short-story trilogy--will be released in December 2021. Season one, going with the name of The Zombie Infection: Chronicles, will be released in 2022.

This notice is to clear any confusion about the two series. They are in the same shared universe and will, eventually, cross over. However, for now, they will remain separate. That’s everything concerning The Zombie Infection franchise, so until then, I bid you all a good day.
