"Riolu and Dratini are already very close to you. It's a surprise that it happened in such a short amount of time," Professor Aspen told Kuruko and Vilia. The two kids nodded and looked to the happy Pokémon by their sides. Vilia turned back to Professor Aspen.
"Professor, I was wondering if we could nickname our Pokémon," she asked the Professor.
"Of course you can. If that's what you wish, it's fine with me," the Professor answered contently. Kuruko looked to Vilia, confused.
"So, that means we can call them anything we want?" he asked. Vilia nodded and looked to Dratini.
"I think I'm gonna call this one Drigari," she told Dratini. It smiled and nodded.
"Tini!" it cried happily. Kuruko looked to Riolu.
"And you're going to be Urio. How does that sound, buddy?" he asked. The Pokémon nodded quietly in agreement.
"So, now that you two are all ready, you should take these." The Professor handed them a red machine and five Pokéballs each. Kuruko looked to the red machine and then back to the Professor.
"This is a Pokédex, right?" he asked. She nodded in agreement.
"Try using them on Urio and Drigari," she told them. Vilia and Kuruko pointed the Pokédexes to their Pokémon. A hologram appeared on each machine, Kuruko's depicting a Riolu and Vilia's depicting a Dratini.
"Dratini. The Dragon Pokémon. It is called the “Mirage Pokémon” because so few have seen it. It continually molts and sloughs off its old skin, because the life energy within its body steadily can build to reach uncontrollable levels."
"Riolu. The Emanation Pokémon. It uses the shapes of auras, which change according to emotion, to communicate with others. Its body is lithe yet powerful, allowing it to crest three mountains and cross two canyons in one night."
"Each Pokémon has its own unique power. I want the both of you to record the information of as many of these creatures as you can. It may help you overcome many challenges," Professor Aspen told them.
"Type matchups, learned moves, stats, genders... All of those things will help with my upcoming Gym battles," Kuruko told himself.
"And it has updated information about Pokémon Contests too. That's what you want to do, right, Vilia?" Aspen looked to Vilia, who nodded in agreement. Kuruko checked both Pokemon's stats.
"Huh. Looks like Drigari is a female Pokémon and Urio is a male," he told Vilia. Vilia looked up and blushed.
"Just think of how cute it'd be if they fell in love..." She sighed dreamily as Kuruko did a facepalm.
"Oh brother... I'm gonna hate having to put up with this," he sighed.
As the sun started to set in the sky, the two decided to set off. They bid farewell to Professor Aspen as they walked toward the woods ahead of them. Vilia gulped.
"Kuruko? I-I think we should wait until it's light out again... I don't want to walk through the dark like a blind person," she stuttered. Kuruko looked at her.
"What? Are you chicken? Bawk bawk!" He started flapping his arms in the air while making fun of Vilia. Vilia frowned angrily.
"ALRIGHT! We'll go in! If that'll stop you from teasing me!" she yelled. Drigari flinched at the volume of her voice. Urio covered his ears. Kuruko's hair stood on end and he stood stiff in place.
"O-OK," he whimpered. Vilia sighed.
"S-Sorry I got mad at you," she apologized. Kuruko shook his head.
"No, it's my fault for making fun of you. If you don't want to head out tonight, that's alright," he told her. Vilia chuckled.
"After all that, we'd might as well go in," she replied, smiling and grabbing onto his hand.
With those words being the last, Kuruko and Vilia walked hand-in-hand into the forest with their Pokémon by their side.
