They must be deaf. Basheem thought to himself.
Just as he was about to give up, the little black bear cub found a small see-through box. He dragged it out and realised there was berries in there. "Finally!" He muttered to himself. Basheem dragged his claws across the top, and ate the small berries.
These berries were a lot jucier than normal berries, and they were a pinkish purple colour. Lots of juice was floating in the bottom of the box, so Basheem licked that too. However, there wasn't a lot of berries, and Basheem was still hungry. He went rumaging through the can again, and found a chicken carcuss and some salty potato sticks. This was enough to satisfy him, so he started to pad back.
Basheem then stopped when he heard flat-face voices closeby. They were pointing at the can, and then at the see-through box with the cub's claw marks in. One of them was shouting something, but Basheem didn't understand flat-face language. He didn't know a bear who did.
As he watched the flat-faces, one of them pointed at the bushes. Another one had a deathstick in his paw, and he was climbing into a huge monster. The monster started growling and then it was on the move. The flat-face was aiming his deathstick into the bushes, where Basheem was. The cub was frightened, so he ran out of the bushes and into the monster's path. The flat-face screamed and aimed the deathstick at Basheem. It then made a loud popping noise and hit Basheem's leg. He dropped to all fours and ran for his life, blood pouring out of his leg where the deathstick had hit him.
There wasn't many places to go, as the forest was only so big. Basheem had no option but to run across the BlackPath. The deathstick made more popping noises, but they all missed Basheem. Monsters skidded across the BlackPath, trying to avoid the cub. But one monster was dodging something else, and it crashed into another monster. A loud squealing noise could be heard, so Basheem went to investigate.
Between the monsters laid a small black bear cub! Chapter 4 (Eskianna)
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten! Ready or not, here I come!"
Eskianna was playing with her brother again. They were playing the same usual game of hide and seek, while their mother went out hunting.
It was easy to hide on the ice, with so many rocks and caves to hide behind or in. Eskianna chose to hid behind a jagged rock, covered in snow. She could easily disguise as a rock because of her white fur, but after her mother tripped over Eskianna's brother, it wasn't really much of an option. Unless she was trying to kill someone.
Toshi is too easy to hear with all the noise he's making! Eskianna thought to herself, sniggering. She watched her brother as he yelled for his sister. The little cub had no idea how close Eskianna was.
"I give up!" Toshi sighed, flopping down in the snow. Eskianna giggled and appeared. "You're way too easy to hide from!"
"Yes, but I'm hard to fight!" Toshi added, pouncing onto her. "I'm a rival bear and you tresspassed on my territory! Now die!" He wrestled with his sister, trying to make her surrender as he had done. Eskianna knew what he was up to, so she kicked out her back legs and shoved Toshi off, sending him flying into the snow. "Ha! I am the champion!" She annonced, standing on her hind legs. "I'm stronger than you, obviously."
"Don't play so roughly!" A voice cried nearby. Eskianna gulped as a bigger, female white bear approached her with a seal in her jaws. She then dropped it. "I thought I could trust you two when I went hunting."
"Sorry, Recka." Eskianna apologised, looking back at her brother. "Come on Toshi, Mother's brought back food!"
When Toshi returned, the two cubs and their mother started to eat the prey. Eskianna savoured every single bite, as it wasn't often that they found seals. They normally had to survive on small prey, or plants. Recka had told them that most of the prey were hunted by males.
"Do they steal prey too?" Eskianna asked. Her mother nodded sadly. "They also kill cubs, so hence why we need to stay on higher ground. The male's pelts are too heavy to climb up the mountains."
"Will I be like that?" Toshi piped up, baring his teeth playfully at Eskianna. "When I'm a fully-grown bear, I'll look after you."
"Certainly not!" Recka snorted. "Atleast, I hope you won't! I would be horrified to see my own cubs stealing prey!"
Eskianna tried to picture her brother as a bloodthirsty murderer, but she couldn't. Toshi was clumsy and playful, unlike the males who stole prey and killed cubs. He couldn't turn out to be a killer, could he?
She pounced onto her brother, taking him by suprise as she swatted him with her paws.
