two to my left and right combined with the first and last pillars I had seen to form a circle. I looked to the tops of the East and West pillars and there I saw an eagle and a man, respectively. I recognized them as being Elemental Cherubim. I suddenly remembered that the cube is a symbol of earth. I pondered the symbolism for a moment, but then the strange winged womanโs sobs drew my attention back to her.
I proceeded towards her without acknowledgement. I could make out her gown, which was sort of a light purple, with a simple cord around her waist. The back of the gown was open and I thought I could see a simple hoop around her neck, just under her hair. The wings continued to move and flex, sometimes appearing to embrace the double cube and I could see that the wings were not wholly black but contained shiny hues of purple. And there was another element, in the depths of both her black wings and those beautiful stygian locks, there was a shimmering. At first one might think that she was laced with glitter, but no. There was in fact a multitude of twinkling lights which emanated from deep within her wings and hair. It was as if I were staring into the night sky itself. Finally, she looked up at me and instantly my heart broke. I found myself gazing at the most beautiful face and I was in love.
Her black hair, her milky white skin, her red lips, her crystal blue eyes, with purple eye-shadow, and the mascara running with her tears. She was perfect! It was as if the Godโs who rule such things as menโs hearts had placed this wondrous and as far as I knew, unattainable creature here to tease me. I felt a shot of anger, for deep down, I knew this to be a dream. The sorrow in her face however, held me firmly attentive to the weeping angel. She held out her hand to me and I readily took the delicate structure, marveling at skin so soft I couldnโt believe it was skin at all.
โYouโre not supposed to be here my love.โ My heart leapt at her words, her voice wasnโt just music, but the very soul of magic.
โIโฆIโm sorry, I didnโt know this wasโฆIโm lost you see andโฆwhat do you mean by โmy loveโ?โ The words stumbled more than stammered from my lips, but I got them out just the same. She gave a small chuckle through tears and sniffles; a small finger delicately touched the corners of her eyes. Her smile was like sunrise set to a symphony.
โI love you all, and I weep for all of you. But you my love,โ Here she takes my other hand, and gives them both a firm squeeze, while her wings spread out to the rear away from her body. โYou are not supposed to be here in this place, not just this spot, this place.โ She gestures out towards the cemetery, her wings relax. I turn and look.
โI donโt understandโ, I say. โWhat is this place? Why are all those people here? Iโve never seen so many people in graveyard all at once. And where are the coffins? Where are the bodies? Whatโs with those headโฆโ here she pressed a finger to my lips as she pressed closer to me. Every ancient instinct, every nerve in my body felt activated all at once. She lowered her hand and I whispered, โWho are you?โ She smiled.
โEn-Yewโ, she whispered back seductively. โYou already know that thoughโ My mind began to spin; she was right, I did know, or at least I recognized her somehow. โYou already have the answers to your questions. You know, what this place is, who they are.โ Again she gestures to the cemetery. โWhy they mourn, and why there are so many.โ
My mind was a multitude of answers, all of which seemed equally logical and equally wrong. Her hand comes up and caresses my cheek. I look back to her; she was looking at me expectantly. I realized that my right hand had made its way around her waist. I could feel the full majesty and power of this beautiful creature pulsing under my skin and even into my torso.
โNo?โ She asks, as I am clearly still milling it over. โLet me give you hint my love. They are all waiting. That is why they mourn.โ
Suddenly it hits me and my heart races as the reality of this place, the meaning of it all hits me like a tidal wave and washes over me leaving me in a mixture of elation and despair. Tears begin to stream from my eyes as I feel the sorrow that she feels, that all these people feel and I say.
โOh my god, theyโre already dead!โ I announce in sudden understanding.
She leans in and plants gentle meaningful kiss on my lips, a kiss I can still feel, from lips I can still taste when my eyes open at almost the same time. I carried my tears back from that nightmarishly wondrous place and they continued for some minutes.
