The sound of a fist pounding on the door shook me out of my thoughts. I dashed up the stairs, threw down the ladder to the attic, and climbed up. I pulled the ladder back into place, and telegraphed Callie.
11/25/2114 6:30 AM
Callie,
I'm hiding, don't worry about me.
11/25/2114 6:31 AM
ZayZay,
Okay, love you like my sister Alzara.
11/24/2114 6:32 AM
Callie,
I love you too, sister.
I sighed, and smashed my instant telegrapher against the wall. I flung down the ladder, slid down it, and ran to the basement. I slid down the railing of the basement stairs, and ran to the broken fridge. It was on it's side, the wide door hanging slightly open. I got on my knees, climbed in, and closed the door, leaving it just barely cracked open.
I shook, nervous the Priests would find me. I heard feet pounding on the floor above me. I heard smashes and bans, like the Priests were destroying the place. The tablets!
I thought. We left them on the table. What if one of the Priests finds them? I shook even harder. I heard light footsteps on the stairs, and stilled, not even breathing. The steps came closer, then faded again, a though the person went past the fridge. I heard a door open and close. The footsteps neared again, then left.
The pounding and shuffling upstairs continued, but eventually died down. I heard conversation, and eventually the front door open and close. I heard Calisto's mother, but I couldn't make out what she was saying. I heard someone come down the stairs.
"You can come out now." a voice I didn't recognize whispered.
I didn't budge.
"Please?" the voice said, smooth as velvet.
I didn't dare move a muscle.
The person sighed, and left. A few minutes later, I heard another set of footsteps coming down the stairs.
"ZayZay, get your stinky butt out here." whispered Calisto.
I chuckled and wiggled my way out of the fridge, scraping my side.
"Ah crap." I grumbled as I lifted up my shirt to see if the door broke the skin. It did, but only a little, I wan't even bleeding that much. I glanced up at Calisto's worried face, and laughed.
"I'm fine, Callie. I just need a bandage."
she shook her head and motioned for me to follow. We dashed up the stairs and into the family room. I held my shirt up. and used the Language of the Hands to ask Mrs. Tristofred for a bandage. She smiled and nodded her head as she went to the kitchen to get the Health Kit. I looked over at Callie, and she looked at me weird. I gave her a what-are-you-looking-at-me-like-that-for? look. She grabbed her pad and pen and scribbled some words on it.
You are really suck at the Language of the hands, Zay.
I smiled and nodded my head. Mrs. Tristofred came back with some bandages, and asked me to pull up my shirt. I did as she said, and glared at Calisto when she laughed. She shook her head and pointed at Asher. He blushed redder than a cherry tomato. I smiled and chuckled quietly at him, making him blush even more. Calisto could hardly contain herself and had to leave the room. Her mom smiled and shook her head as she finished applying anti-bacterial ointment and a bandage.
I pulled my shirt back into place and went to go find Calisto. It was high-time I questioned her further about Asher. I finally found her laying on the floor in her room, doodling on her pad. I sat next to her and shoved my pad in her face.
Who is Asher really, and why have you never told me about him before!?
Asher is my twin, but he's not from here. Quite honestly, I didn't know about him until a few years ago. Dad just came home one night with a huge smile on his face and shouted, "I found him!"
Well, I guess it's time we do some diging! I wrote her, smiling.
Yup, and why aren't you answering your instant telegrapher?
Well, I kind of smashed it. I knew the Priests could track me, so I squished it against the wall.
Calisto smiles and high-fives me as we walk out of her room. We stomp down the staircase and find Asher napping in the guest room. I put a finger on my lips, hushing Callie. She creeps around to the other side of the bed, and tugs on the corner of the blanket. We both slide underneath the bed, and hid.
"I know it's you two." whispers Asher.
We come out, and see a very tired looking Asher. I smile and rustle his hair, and grab the writing pad on the nightstand.
Which one is older?" I wrote to Calisto.
She points to herself, and Asher frowns. I smile deviously at him, and we leap.
Calisto and I pounced on Asher, and messed around with him. Finally, we stopped. He made a face, then rolled out of bed, shooing us out.
