stuttering. Oh sure you can I laughed grinning at her. She made a nervous laugh and mumbled thank you. She opened her bag and showed me what was inside. There was a pair of pajamas and another set of clothes and a tooth brush. Wow I said smirking at her, your quiet prepared... She grinned looking pink. How about you Jason? I said you want to crash in for the night there is an extra room. Nah Jason smiled I will go home right know he said looking at the time. Thanks for asking anyways he said I felt that Jason was still upset and dark. He started collecting his things silently then headed towards the door. Good bye he mumbled. He walked out the door. Annabelle and I said goodnight. Hey! I yelled after him he looked back, your coming tomorrow! He smiled then yelled yes. Let’s make dinner Annabelle said. Right I said. It’s late, but I am so hungry I exclaimed following Annabelle wearily to the kitchen. Annabelle and I managed to make something for dinner though it didn’t taste very good. I think we should stick with fast food restaurant! I called out to Annabelle who was washing the dishes while I was cleaning the table. We both exchanged looks then started barking with laughter. When it was 11 we headed to bed. After we brushed our teeth and took a bath. I told Annabelle she can stay in my room. I was going to sleep in my Dad’s room I said assuring her when her eyes widened. She walked to my bed and lay down sheepishly. Make yourself at home I said, she nodded and smiled. I headed to my dad’s room, Goodnight! I heard Annabelle yelling, Goodnight! I yelled back, laughing. When I got to my father’s room it felt really cold. The curtains were drawn and the bed was neat and made. The brown oak wardrobe across from his bed had all his clothes. His cologne and deodorant were still there standing on the small table next to his bed. What really caught my attention was the desk located east of the room, a few meters away from the door. I remembered that I wasn’t allowed to sit there or read his things. I slowly walked towards it curiously. I reached out and touched one of the handles of his drawers, the metal was cold. I gripped the handle and tugged it gently but the drawer wouldn’t open, it was locked. Wow I thought raising an eyebrow; I can’t wait to open this. I walked back to the bed and hopped on. The bed sheet and pillow still smells of him and his fragrance. I carefully lay down and slept deeply and comfortably. Morning came real quick. Caraline! I bolted up. Yeah? I yawned tiredly. She looked at me then murmured remember? Suddenly realizing what she was talking about I jumped out of bed. Here she said quietly you should wear this. She laid down a long black plain dress with a black cardigan. I went to the bathroom to freshen up and change. I got out wearing what she gave me, the dismal and miserable looking dress. She looked down at me satisfied, that will do she prompted. She herself was wearing a black skirt with a black collared shirt. We should get go--- my voice was cut of by car honking. Troy was at the street honking for us to get down. I guess we’re getting picked up Annabelle said coolly eyeing Troy’s Ferrari in disgust. I looked at her then beckoned her to go downstairs. I followed her silently. When Troy saw us he stopped honking. Annabelle looked him skeptically. Troy was wearing a formal black suit with a white shirt. He glanced at us then gestured us to the car. I got in his car pursued by Annabelle. The ride to the church wasn’t very long, about 15 minutes drive. When we got out of the car my stomach lurched when I saw the church. We went straight to the back yard. Both Troy and Annabelle looked at me carefully. I didn’t say anything I stared at the coffin in which my father lay peacefully in rest. After many painful moments the funeral had officially ended. I was sitting in between Jason and Annabelle joined by my friends Todd, Alisa, and Ella. They all gave me pats on the back then left saying a goodbye. Once again Annabelle Jason and I got in Troy’s car with out saying a word. I sat in the front looking at Troy apprehensively. Maybe he killed my father with the wrong medicine I thought bitterly gazing at the window. He glanced at me, what’s wrong Caraline? You look disgruntled. Nothing I said quickly. I could’ve sworn he gave an Annabelle and Jason a quick suspicious look after hitting the brakes in front of my house. I jumped out of the car glad that it was all over. I tried not to think about my father too much. Jason and Annabelle hopped of behind me. When I got to my porch both of them informed me that they were going home to change. When they saw my disappointed face they added quickly that they were coming back very shortly. I got inside the house feeling free from the suffocating church. I sighed and pulled off my cardigan which was now wet with sweat. I looked at it in revulsion ugh! I muttered no personal hygiene. I went to the bathroom to take a long cold shower after I dressed into a t- shirt and a pair of jeans there was a knock at the door. I dashed to the door opening it happily. Annabelle and Jason grinned as they got in. Oh I was wondering when you guys were going to come! I exclaimed. I got some information about the mission Jason said as we settled down the couch. What! Annabelle and I shouted simultaneously. He looked slightly taken aback then said we are going to the forest---Annabelle nodded--- there we are going to meet the hultarials they will guide us after that. Annabelle and I stared at him our mouths hanging open. Who told you that? I said amazingly. Oh… he murmured that…well king Altair sent me a letter yesterday Jason said his face was pink. What! Annabelle hissed enviously he gave you a letter and not us. Look that’s not the point he said impatiently he gave me an unexpected notice and he didn’t even tell us when. Check this out he said placing the letter on the table. Still looking annoyed Annabelle peered over my shoulder looking at the paper that was neatly scrolled. Wow I said king Altair has contacted you. I know Jason mumbled but it was for a very important purpose he said hurriedly he is not my pen pal or anything. Annabelle scoffed looking outrageous. He scowled at her as I was saying he said swiftly he said he will give us a signal when it’s time. So we shouldn’t do anything rash like going into that dangerous forest to barge in the hulturial meetings he said firmly. Like we were ever going to do that I said. Well just in case said Jason darkly. We all exchanged looks. What’s the signal? I asked Jason. Jason shrugged. Probably another letter to Jason Annabelle said irritably. Could be Jason said mockingly. Jason switched on the TV. She’s just jealous Jason muttered. I didn’t say anything Annabelle snapped going red. She stormed out the living room and headed outside. Bye! I yelled, Bye! She replied. When Jason yelled bye, there was no answer but a slamming door. Jason frowned then turned back looking directly at me. Are you scared about this mission? Jason asked anxiously. I shrugged. Maybe I said. Well it’s okay to be scared he said we are…risking our lives. I know I sighed. Then I smiled at him it would be cool though. Jason grinned definitely! I think I am going to go he said as he jumped up. He took his bag. Bye then he said. Bye I said. When he left, the house was once again silent. I lay down on the sofa, I grabbed the chemistry book from my book bag and propped it on my lap. I must’ve done this for hours because slowly I was dozing off.
A sharp rapping on the door woke me up. It woke me up with a fright, I gasped. It must’ve been 2:00 A.M. The sharp rapping continued, and I was too scared to open it. Who would it be at this time? I asked myself. The person rapping on the door became more impatient. I ran up stairs to my room like a frightened cat, my chemistry book fell to the ground with a thud. I quickly slammed the door locking it. Now the knocks were so loud that I thought they were going to break the door! Nothing seemed to come to my head at that time, I felt so scared and helpless. Slowly I lifted up the curtain and peered outside. There were about 5 dark figures that were outside the door. They were all wearing the same dark hoods. One of them felt me looking at them and looked up straight at me. I screamed and fell back. The man’s face was so pale, unhealthy white. Those piercing red ruby eyes were upon me. They know I’m up here I thought panicking. I crawled to the corner of my bedroom and hugged my knees praying to god. Who were these people? I didn’t notice but the rapping had stooped and so did my breathing. I could’ve sworn I heard the door click. My arms were wet of tears. I bit my lip so hard that I could taste blood they were coming up. Their footsteps were muffled but I heard them climbing the stairs. One of them with the most horrible hissing voice spoke, Caraline? Oh Caraline? My stomach flipped and I gasped. How do they know me? The door knob suddenly twisted. Clutching my heart I was out of breath. Knock, knock. I turned around and ran to the window. Lifting the curtains all the way, I gasped in surprise someone was there looking at me. It was Annabelle.

Annabelle I cried. The knob was twisting uncontrollably. Annabelle put a finger to her lip and gave the intimation to open the window. Carefully I tried opening it so that they wouldn’t hear. Hurry up! Annabelle hissed. It won’t open! I cried desperately. Annabelle looked panic stricken. She opened her mouth to say something, but too late the door busted open and they marched in. One of them in particular wore a red medallion across its chest. I yelped and whimpered backing away. Of Course I bumped into the wall. And slowly they started surrounding me. I helplessly glanced at the window, Annabelle was gone. Caraline, the man with the red medallion hissed inhumanely. He reached out slowly to touch me. His arms were visible beneath his loose sleeves. They were thin, bony, and green. He grabbed my neck unexpectedly with rapid motion. His grip was surprisingly strong and firm, his touch was cold and his nails were digging into my neck. I hollered and screamed clutching his hand and trying to yank it away. But his grip was tight. He laughed mercilessly, a shrill laugh that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The others started to join in his laughter. I started to suffocate and I can feel liquid rising up my throat. Just right when I saw my life flash before my eyes I felt a strong rush of power inside me. Without even thinking
