If people would've kindly pulled their heads out of their own asses, they would've seen the truth. That Rosie, Charles' beloved wife had been the one who wanted a child so badly. He put it off as long as he could, until Rosie was sobbing nearly daily because she was still not pregnant and able to call a child hers. So on their fifth year of marriage Charles had given in.
When Derrick was born, he killed his mother. Rosie was not strong enough to bear childbirth. She never lived to see the child she wanted so badly. Derrick was healthy and a fairly large child. He didn't cry until after the doctors had cleaned him off. Charles was terrified, not of the baby but of the concept of taking care of it without Rosie. Upon being handed to his father, Derrick only cried harder.
"He's hungry." Charles stated, eying the child with unease.
"We'll get him some formula." The nurse took Derrick from Charles, and the baby bit her. Hard. Hard enough to draw blood, which the small newborn quickly began to drink.
