When I got there, the teacher was already there, sitting behind her desk. I noticed that everyone was filing in and going to certain seats, even if they were away from the person that they came in with. ‘They must have assigned seats’ I thought to myself, so I went up to the teacher, Ms. Lancer, to find out.

“Excuse me, Ms. Lancer, my name is Danica Nyxe, today is my first day and I was wondering if there was any specific place that you would prefer me to sit,” I said and she smiled up at me.

“Well, hello Miss Nyxe. I hope that you are having a wonderful first day, and yes, we do have assigned seats in this class. If you could give me a second, I’ll look and see where I have marked for you to sit,” she said. She then picked up a clip board and flipped through some of the pages that she had on it until she found the one that she was looking for. “Yes, Danica Nyxe. You are to sit next to Mr. Monroe. Evan, could you raise your hand,” she asked and a boy with dark hair that swept over his tanned face and covered equally as dark eyes raised his hand at the back of the classroom. Right then and there, I knew that Lynn was right and that she wasn’t exaggerating, in fact she was underestimating him; he had to be the hottest guy that even I had ever seen and I had been all over the world.

I was stunned momentarily. Something about him had already attached itself to my heart and I haven’t even spoken to him. But he’s a mortal. I don’t get it. A mortal shouldn’t be able to affect me so strongly. Something is seriously wrong here.

Either way, I knew that I had to sit down, so I took a deep breath and walked over and sat down in the seat next to him. I didn’t look over at him in fear that I would make him think that I was a freak of some sort, so I just pushed my hair over my shoulder and made a shield between us. Even though I never looked at him, I could feel his gave on me. Burning through me into my very soul. I felt completely exposed. Something I had never felt on earth. It was like he could see straight through my human façade straight to my bold ivory wings hidden beneath my skin and clothes.

I was grateful when class started because it made it almost impossible for him to keep his eyes on me and still pay attention to the teacher, but somehow, he did. I am telling you, that had to be the longest hour of my entire existence. Through the whole class, I could feel his eyes on me, but I refused to look back at him. Finally, when the bell rang, I let out a sigh of relief and started gathering my stuff. In my heist, I managed to drop my notebook, but before I could bend down to pick it up, it was being handed to me.

I looked up to thank whoever it was and stopped in my tracks when I came eye to eye with Evan. “Thanks,” I stuttered out and looked down.

“No problem. My name is Evan. You must be Danica, the new girl that turned Hayden down,” he said laughing. As soon and he spoke to me, I could tell that all of the judgments that the people in this school had placed on him were wrong. I could see that he was a good person, just waiting for the right one.

“Yeah, that’s me,” I said and smiled at him and shrugged. He returned my smile and stuck out his hand. I placed mine in his and he shook it.

“That’s a first you know,” he said with a smirk as we gathered our things and walked out the door to the classroom and started heading towards our lockers.

“What,” I asked him.

“No girl has ever turned down Hayden. Like ever. Every girl that he has ever went after has melted at his feet and spread their legs. Personally, I find it disgusting, but to each his own and apparently, slut is his type,” he said and I laughed. By this type, we were at my locker.

“I guess so,” I said as I opened my locker and put my stuff inside. I looked back at Evan and noticed that he still had his books. “Don’t you need to put those up?”

He looked down and shrugged. “Yeah, I guess so. Do you have B lunch,” he asked and I nodded my head and he smiled. “Alright then, I’ll see you at lunch,” he said and turned and walked in the opposite direction of me.

I shut my locker and jumped when I turned around to see Lynn with wide eyes and her mouth hanging down onto the floor. I put my hand under her jaw and closed her mouth, “You’ll catch flies, sweetie,” I said sarcastically and laughed.

“Do you know who that was, Dani? That was Evan Monroe. The Evan Monroe. And he was talking to you, not that you aren’t pretty, I mean you are like gorgeous, but come on her never talks to anybody,” she said in a rush and I laughed and started walking towards the cafeteria.

“Thank you, and yes, Lynn, I know that was Evan Monroe.”

“Still, even if he is the hottest guy on the planet, he still acts like a ‘Greater-Than-Thou’ jerk, and you shouldn’t get involved with him,” she said and I rolled my eyes to myself and walked into the cafeteria.

“Calm down. I have had one conversation with him and you think that we are going to jump into a relationship? Trust me that would never happen,” I said. But did I want it to? There was something different about him. A pure soul that you don’t run across much. I was drawn to him, but I couldn’t do anything about it. I have a mission to accomplish and that was it.

Before I knew it, I had made it through the lunch line and Lynn was dragging me over to a table with three others already sitting there. She sat down and pulled up chair for me next to her. “Hey guys, this is Danica, but I have decided to call her Dani. Dani, this is Halle, Daniel, and Jayse.” She motioned to them as she said their names. Halle was really pretty. She had black hair and bright green eyes, pale skin and looked to be about five feet four inches tall. She then pointed at Daniel. He was very well built and tall. He had a dork brown bush of hair and some facial hair that made him really attractive and piercing blue-gray eyes. Finally, she pointed to Jayse. He was shorter than Daniel but still well built with brown eyes and dark blonde hair.

“Hi,” said and they all smiled and said hi back to me.

“So,” Halle said starting a conversation, “what’s this I hear about the new girl turning down Hayden and striking the interest of Evan Monroe in the same day?”
“Well, the-” I started until I was interrupted by Evan himself.

“Both are true,” he said and I blushed and everyone stared at him in shock as he pulled up at chair next to me and sat down. Whether they were more shocked at what he said or the fact that he just pulled up at chair and sat down beside me, I will never know.
