way to avoid the oak. When she reached the side entrance Celine had disappeared down the corridor which way she went Alexandra did not know.

That night Alexandra tossed and turned in her bed. She found herself on the spire again. Towering over the continent, she could see it in its entirety. Looking around she beheld a dark bird flying towards her. Darkness trailed behind its massive black wings and a blue nimbus surrounded it. As it came closer, the feelings of dread and despair came upon the princess and like two grimy dead hands, they clasped around her heart. She tried to move but the hold on her was too strong, falling to the ground she cried in terror. It flew closer and the pain increased almost becoming unbearable. Once it came into full view Alexandra saw its red brooding eyes, its pale, now dead looking skin, and its sharp teeth. This was not a bird; it was the man under the oak. The princess screamed her eyes flew open and she sat bolt upright in bed. She was sweating all over and her breathing was heavy. A shadow crouched at the edge of her bed right next to her feet. It turned its head to reveal blood red eyes and razor sharp teeth. What took place next happened so fast that Alexandra didnβt have any time to react. A blinding flash of white light threw the creature off her bed. It gave out a loud hiss and another flash of light came from the doorway. The creature let out a shriek and vanished.
βAre you alright your highness? Thank heavens I made it in time.β A boy ran over to Alexandraβs side.
βMathew, what is going on?β The pageboy Mathew grinned.
βWell I just saved you from a gremlin. They are nasty creatures; they feed off peopleβs nightmares especially the people that are just now starting to show signs of talent. Iβm going to put a protection spell around your room that should just about keep anything bad out.β Mathew went over to one of the walls and began to touch it. Alexandra got out of bed, put on her robe and followed the pageboy to the wall.
βSo how does this work?β Mathew ignored her and continued his concentration. A green light began to pulsate through the walls creating beautiful patterns on the walls. Alexandra contemplated on if she should touch the pulsating light but decided that it might disrupt Mathewβs spell. The main thing that ran through her head was how did Mathew know how to use magic? After the green light faded, Mathew turned to the princess.
βIβm done. Sorry for ignoring your question earlier I was a bit busy; Iβm not very good at multitasking. To answer your question what you do is place the hand that you use less on the object that you want to place the protect spell on and then with the hand that you use the most you wave it over the object. Then you absorb the raw energy and concentrate all of your thoughts mostly thoughts about protecting loved ones and such and then you focus the magic through the hand you are waving around. And thatβs how you do a protection spell. Itβs pretty easy once you get the hang of it.β
βOkay. I guess that makes sense. Are you always this in depth when explaining things?β
βOh thatβs a habit of mine. It comes with the job description. Itβs important that I say all my messages word for word.β Mathew smiled, βYou know I wouldnβt mind teaching you a few things but right now Iβve got some more things I have to do before I go to bed. Good night your highness, you should be safe.β Mathew bowed and then left the room as he closed the door a green light pulsated through the door making the protection barrier complete. Alexandra sat in bed and thought about the events of the day. It was the most unusual day she ever had and there were still answers that eluded her. Who was the White Queen, but more importantly, who was the black winged man. All the questions filled up her mind and Alexandra knew she was in for a restless night.
