a kid and because he was walking sunlight, it made all the sense in the world.

I almost cried at the sight and I wrapped my arm around his shoulders, hugging him close and silently promising myself that I couldn't tell him about the books because I wouldn't dare put his life in danger too.

My fingers were frozen as I tapped on the door, my gloves seemed to be missing and I didn't realize how much they helped until now.

August answered the door after a few freezing minutes, without a shirt and his eyes half closed with slumber, "Bain's not here yet, come back in a few hours" he barked before treading back to whatever room he came from.

His back was glorified with muscle, shifting with every step and I had to peel my eyes away from it.

Sam shrugged, "Wanna go buy breakfast and go to the book store?"

I shook my head, "I need to see Urith about something" I smiled at his sad expression, "Meet you here in a few hours."

I wasn't surprised to see Urith awake already, either that or he didn't sleep. I didn't know where his study was but I could hear a faint piano playing through the house and my instincts told me that it would be Urith.

His record player was spinning softly, beautiful melodies spilling out in gentle waves and Urith was scribbling aggressively at his desk.

His dark eyes clicked on my movements as I entered the study, "Ah, Changeling" his shoulders relaxed, "You gave me a fright."

I approached him with what felt like the weight of the books on my shoulders, "I have something to show you."

Eyes flickered with curiosity and he frowned, "What is it?"

I rested my hand on my bag and I eyed him, "This is very dangerous and I need you to tell me that I can trust you."

His eyes followed my hand and eyed the bag, like he could see through it, "Of course, you can trust me, Changeling" his eyes returned to mine and he bowed his head, "You can trust everyone in this house."

I kneeled and dumped all the books on the floor of his study, onto the soft carpet with a light thud.

Urith stood so fast and he kneeled in front of me, grabbing the books with the lightest touch, "You got them."

I swallowed, "My uncle, our Gamma, found them in my father's desk" my throat felt thick, "He lied to me, he told me he didn't have them and he hid them from me."

Urith was already reading with hidden excitement, "I can't believe you got them."

My hand grabbed the book from his hands and I held his glare with my own, "I need you to promise me that if people ask where you got these, that you will say my name and my name only" my dark glare intensifying.

I have no power over a Sigma, over anyone but I needed my uncle safe. His glare disappeared and he bowed his head, "Of course Eden, you can trust me."

I was lying on my front with Emily's diary in front of me, displaying her life before me and Urith was lying across the room, on his back and a book covering his face. We had been reading for hours, my eyes never tiring but my stomach grumbling but I didn't move from the book.

Emily wrote every day, all at various times of the day but always the same consistent outgoing tone. Emily was a happy Changeling, she believed that she was given her life for a reason, like she had a purpose and she would stop at nothing to find it.

"This one is a crazy witch" Bain's voice travelled from the couch where he laid, sprawled out like a dog and he wandered in around an hour after I arrived, looking for Urith and found us in the exact same position we were in now.

Urith sighed, "Shut up Bain."

"Eat me Urie."

"Mind if I join?" I looked up at the sound of Quinn's voice, she was standing in the doorway in an oversized jumper and pajama shorts. She looked like a child who was just woken up from a loud noise, lost and sleepy.

I never seen Urith smile like how he did at Quinn, like she was the rain after a drought and he spoke before I could, "Of course, my dove" he patted the spot next to him.

Quinn strolled in, sitting crossed-legged next to Urith's lying body, his large hand coming out to rest on Quinn's thigh as he kept reading.

I pushed a book at Quinn, "I'm trying to find more about Changelings and their wolf."

Quinn's normally cold eyes were understanding and she grabbed the book, "Have you found anything yet?"

Bain sighed again, "No because this witch keeps talking about crystals and how one of her damn cousins won't take her virginity" his words coming out with record speed, "Bunch of freaks."

A laugh ripped out of me as I took in Bain's exasperated look, my eyes watering as Bain smiled at me in return. Quinn rubbed her lips together to stop herself from laughing.

We continued reading and Emily was talking about how she had a feeling that this guy was her mate. Explaining knowing him before actually knowing him, knowing his scent, the sound of his footsteps and rhythm of his heartbeat.

I gasped, "Guys."

Quinn's blue eyes snapped to me at the same time Bain's dark ones did. Even Urith stopped reading and sat up.

My finger trembled as I followed the words, "I learnt today to master my wolf, to speak to them. They were a part of your DNA, as if they were another soul trapped within yourself and as a Changeling, I had to access the darkest part of myself to speak to her" my voice was surprisingly even, "Her name was Alyssa and she was looking for me, all this time and all I had to do was channel my emotions. When my mother was taken away from me and it felt like my heart was ripped out."

My eyes skimmed the next line before my breath came out in a rush and my voice trembled, "I felt all the grief in the world wash over me, drowning me in a sea of sadness and then, my wolf awoke."

'MY WOLF AWOKE.'

I didn't stop reading. I needed to know more. Learn more.

My whole life I have been searching for my wolf like they were lost, missing from my mind and all the time, they have just been asleep. Waiting for me to break that barrier between us.

Quinn and Urith left hours ago. Bain was asleep on the couch, snoring loudly after complaining that his Changeling book was boring.

Emily was going through emotions faster than I could keep up. First, she was above it all, found her wolf and working on strengthening their bond. Second, she was on a dark slope into a void because the guy she thought was her mate, wasn't mated with her and she was becoming depressed. It was all very confusing.

The room was getting warm from the fire place in the corner, the lack of sleep making my eyelids heavy and it was taking me longer to finish a page. Letting my head fall, I let darkness swallow me with the soft snores of Bain lull me into sleep.

My nightmare of Wren didn't return.

Instead, I dreamt of trees I saw in the painting, the painting that hung proud in the main room. It's trees stretching to a warm iridescent sky, an array of colours swirled around me and the scent of cedar and jasmine drifted into my dreams, fingers in my hair and a sweet whisper in my ear, "You're drooling on your book, pup."

My eyes snapped open and met the colourful palette of August's, his lips stretching into a soft smile.

I wiped away my drool with a yawn, stretching my arms, "What time is it?"

August's smile was devastating, straight white teeth against his tanned skin, "Late afternoon."

I missed lunch and my stomach protested. The couch was now vacant, leaving August and I alone. The air between us felt dense and buzzing. The invisible string straining.

I sat up with crossed legs, "Can I have something to eat?"

August huffed out a short laugh and hauled me in into a standing position, "You can have anything you want."

The kitchen was quiet and cold, Bain was sitting at the stone bench with Urith and both dark-haired wolves sunken into their seats, looking miserable.

I raised my arms at the sight with a short laugh, "Oh my moon, did someone die?"

Urith barely looked up but gave me a sigh before muttering, "Don't bring the moon into this" he said with a cold glare before adding, "The cook's out today."

My mouth dropped open, "You have a cook?"

I couldn't believe it. Grown-arse adults and they had someone who cooked for them. Unbelievable.

Bain sunken further into the stool, "She left us nothing."

I eyed the ingredients in the fridge, plenty in there to make simple things and I shot a glare at them, "There is so much here."

Bain's dark eyes widened with hope, "Can you cook anything?"

Urith's head jolted up at me, trying not to seem as desperate as Bain and they both looked like dogs wagging their tails.

There were eggs, onion and the smallest amount of bacon. My instant thought was omelettes but it's late in the afternoon and I doubt that they want breakfast food now. My stomach was begging for an omelette, for anything but that's the best thing I could cook. Omelettes were underrated.

I sighed with a shrug, "I could make omelettes?"

"Oh, could you?" Bain was basically frothing at the mouth, "We would appreciate it so much."

Quinn had walked in half-way through Urith's omelette and demanded one for herself. I had used almost all the eggs in the fridge and I knew the cook would hate me forever.

Sweet silence filled the room as they stuffed their faces, devouring the entire omelette and the toast I made for them.

"What is happening?" I heard August before I heard him speak. I could hear the difference of his steps compared to everyone else's, I knew the sound of his foot hitting the polished cement and knew he walked faster than anyone here. He practically sprinted everywhere.

I turned to him, holding out a plate with the omelette I saved for him, "Omelettes."

He took it before sighing, "Pup, I can't really eat this."

I frowned, "Are you allergic?"

A huff of air before he sat down his plate and crossing his arms, "Female wolves aren't supposed to cook for the males."

My own arms crossing as I studied him, searching his eyes for the lie, "They seem to be perfectly fine" I gestured to Urith and Bain, who were very full and both watching us with amusement shining in their dark eyes.

A smug smile painted itself on August's face, "Yes but they are mated wolves" he watched my face reddened, "I am not a mated wolf."

"Bain isn't mated" I said defensively.

"I'm also still hungry" Bain added. August handed him the plate and Bain took it greedily, "My mate is across borders, doesn't even know who I am yet" his shoulders rising with a shrug.

"Bain also doesn't care and makes his own rules" August added, "I can't eat it, pup."

"Oh" was all that
