didn’t want to answer I shrugged my shoulder.
“So” he said as he looked at my wings again before he spoke “you used your grace” he asked me. Angels grace was a power that comes to them at a time of trouble that god himself gives them it’s a last defence kind of thing. It is given to them to either protect themselves or their charges. I had been blessed by god only I didn’t know which one and I wasn’t about to let Luc that I didn’t know.
“It appears so” I reply wondering where he was going with this.
“Isn’t being blessed and using a your grace mean that you’re a archangel now” he inquired, not sure I again shrugged. “This must have triggered the change with your feathers. I wonder why, what were you doing again?” he asked.
“I had just told him that he’d fucked up and he attacked me” I said rolling my eyes as I was now repeating myself. He smiled at my words knowing me well enough to know that I wasn’t the most tactful of people.
“And” he prompted.
“And nothing” I was getting annoyed by him “he attacked me and I survived” I snapped.
“Ok, ok” he held up his hands at my annoyance in surrender.
“Let’s go” I stated as I prepared to launch into the sky.
“Lil I don’t think you should go in there with those showing” he said gesturing at my wing “well at least until we have prepared them” he added.
I silently agreed and willed myself to my mother’s home.

We entered and quickly made our way through to our parents whom seamed to be having a heated debate which stopped in mid flow as soon as they realised that we were there.
“How did it go?” Michael asked. I looked baffled at him not sure what he was talking about “the clean up” he prompted.
“Fine” I muttered remembering how Jonah had done it for me.
“We have something we need to discuss with you” Luc announced. They both took a seat and waited. Luc stood by the door and gestured for me to begin; quickly and as truthfully as I could I repeated what had happened with Eve and then gave them the edited version of mine and Jonah meeting.
My mother began pacing and swearing clearly demonstrating her displeasure of the situation. I watched her a few minutes to look at Luc who was fixed on our father; I frowned and turned to look at Michael to see why Luc was fixated. Michael was sat there calm and nodding in agreement.
“Dad” I ask. He turned towards me “dad” I ask in confusion. Then it dawned on me “you knew didn’t you” I stated.
“Dad” Luc interrupted “how does an angel use their grace to become an archangel” he asked.
“Why?” he replied never taking his eyes off me.
I could sense my mother’s form still moving around the room, but I was locked onto my father.
“I want to know” Luc growled.
“What’s going on?” Sash asked noticing the stand off between father and son then coming to stand to my father’s right.
“Father was going to tell us how an archangel is made” he said his voice flat.
“I don’t see the relevance” Michael started to say before being cut off by luc.
“Just humour me” Luc demanded.
“They are usually tested or it’s a last line of defence for angels it usually takes their lives, or it is bestowed by god as the grace is ignited a sort of blessing from god” he tells us.
Neither of us said anything as we took in the information.
“What do you know about the cleansing” I ask.
He looked us both in the eye and took a breath before answering. My heart felt like led in my chest as I knew what the answer was going to be.
“You knew” I said again.
“Its gods will” he said, at that Luc threw himself at Michael in a rage. I stood there unable to move as did our mother who was still unaware of that was going on.
“Stop” she bellowed raising her arms using a wall of fire to separate father and son. “You will explain this” she demanded. She kept her focus on them but addressed me “Lily please” she whispered pain evident in her voice.
With a heavy heart I told her that Michael knew about the cleansing, the fire wall vanished as mom slowly approached her lover.
“Is it true?”
“Yes. Its gods will” he replied.
“You idiot” she roared “I’m a lower race, your children are part of the lower race, you would sacrifice us”
“Sash, its gods will” he said “you and Luc will be safe they have promised” he added.
“And lily” she asked him.
“I could only choose one, she is reckless and wild, and Luc is more angel than she” he tried to explain.
“How can you choose between them” she demanded “they are our children and yet you are willing to condemn one of them to death. You go on about love and god’s forgiveness and mercy and yet you have known for your own children and willing to cause me pain by losing one of them.”
My heart broke for her she was not always the soft cuddly mom, but she loved us and would die for us. Michael was not the same when he came back from heaven at least we know why he had been prepared for Eve and Jonahs coming and he had orders from above.
“Lily show him your wings” Luc demanded of me. I didn’t want to I just wanted to escape and rewind back to about a week ago where the world was right and I knew my place in it even though I hated it.
I willed them into being and opened them wide, I heard my mother shocked gasp pretty much like how Luc had first reacted.
“How can this be” Michael asked.
“You go on about me being more angelic than her and yet here she is with the wings of an archangel and blessed by god” Luc announced. “And not yours, but by the one that predated your god by one of the original gods.” he added.
Dad or now Michael to us stood there unable to speak shocked into silence. “Does that make her more god blessed than you Michael” Luc demanded.
“Well” my mother whispered “does it” she said her heart now shattered. Michael remained silent.
“Michael I think you should leave” Luc spoke slowly and clearly so Michael knew he wasn’t asking.
“You are no match for me son” Michael told him.
“But I am” mother interrupted. “And you are no longer welcome here any longer; I will never welcome you into my bed or heart again Michael. No one and I mean no one threatens or betrays my children and no one betrays me!” she told him.
Michael face was a picture I’m sure that he didn’t think mom would side with us. “No one threatens my race, you can try and kill us you and your gods but it will not come to pass!” she added.
“Leave Michael” she said repeating my brothers demand “as I am showing you the mercy you were not going to show to my daughter.” with a wave of her hand Michael was gone.
“How did you do that to him” I said my voice full of respect. Go mom I thought.
“Lucifer is not just my lord he is also my father and your grandfather and I’m half angel even though he is fallen one” she told us as she sat down.
“That explains why Michael was allowed down here then” Luc said more to himself than actually asking us.
“What now?” I ask of no one particularly.
“I must go and see you grandfather, this Jonah told you about the cleansing and Michael has just confirmed it and more or less confirmed a war is on the horizon. We must be ready” with that she disappeared.
“Lets get out of here” Luc said giving me a brief hug whilst making sure that he doesn’t accidentally brush up against my wing shocking him again.

We flew back this time to the cottage, neither one of us wanting to talk much after the family revelation by our unconventional parents. To be honest I didn’t really want to go back there to many good memories that felt now were all lies, my heart would ache for what we had now lost. Luc flew with me until the cottage was in sight and veered off promising to see me again in a few hours with a heavy heart I landed.
“Lily” I heard from behind me, swinging round I faced Jonah.
“Bloody hell” I moaned “do you wait till you can scare the shit out of me?” I ask.
“No, but I do wait until your alone” he smiled. I flung my hand up in disgust and walked into my home keeping the door open waiting for Jonah to follow me in.
“What do you want now?” I ask as I sat down resting my foot on the small oak coffee table.
“Nothing this time” he answered “really” he added.
“And what does that mean exactly”
“I was worried” he told me. I just looked at him waiting for him to elaborate. “The blessing can be traumatic”
“You did that to me” I stated menace lacing my voice.
“Yes”
