Afterword:

This story, as many of you can imagine, is dedicated to my grandmother.
Only three weeks had passed since our holidays, when I set out on the 750km journey back to my hometown. I wanted to visit my mother and well, also to surprise my grandma.
Many felt, it was unfortunate that I arrived ten minutes too late. No. It was fortunate that I even went and was able to be part of her wake because it was extremely important for me to have the opportunity to say goodbye.
My grandma was strong. Very strong. Only from Sunday night to Monday was she no longer able to get out of bed. The very next day she left us in her sleep. No pain, no regrets and with her head held high until the end.

She died Tuesday,
the 29th November 2011
after a two year battle with cancer at the age of 77 years
