left me alone, starving and almost dying. No one helped me; no prince came to save me.

However, fortunately, an orphanage found out and took care of me. After a half-year of living in the orphanage, a wealthy family wanted to adopt me and considering the rest of my relatives definitely abandoned me, the court granted the custody rights to them.

The family seemed nice for me. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford are both considered public servants; or I must say, government officials. They have a daughter named Yrien who I find quite inhospitable. I don’t think she likes the idea of my adoption. I just managed to forgive every silly things that she did against me, taking it as a form of gratitude to her parents.

Years passed by. It was February and my 18th birthday is quite fast approaching. So, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford organized and prepared fairy tale themed debut celebration for me. I was hesitating on the idea at first, absolutely knowing that Yrien might get more jealous of me. However, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford kept on insisting that at the end, I lose and the party still happened.

The night was eighteenth of February, held on a wide field decorated with balls, flowers and balloons. Butterflies and bubbles were flying everywhere. The place was filled of enchanting lights. I’ve never dreamed of a lavish celebration like this.

I don’t know how I will express gratitude to my considered parents. Maybe, my loyalty to them would be enough. Happily, the celebration went fairly well. Everyone was glad to see me turned eighteen and was pleased with the complexity and beauty of my debut celebration. Well, that was it before something never expected happened.

I was inside of my room to change clothes for the clubbing party they prepared after the formal celebration of my party. I was so happy and it just felt like… to good to be true. I never expected that I would still be able to celebrate my eighteenth birthday like this after my biological parents died, and after all the painful things happened to me. Yet, it still happened.

I was still in pleasing fascination of the thought when I heard a knock on the door. I opened it and saw Lucas, Yrien’s boyfriend. He was still wearing his formal suit but looked messy. “Hey.” He greeted as he pushed me down the floor. He locked the door and harshly carried me to my bed.

I was struggling to make myself free, shouting with the loudest voice I could give. He’s kissing me hard, almost punishing. I want to kick him- to punch him, but I was too weak… Tears flow from my eyes. Why? Why is it happening to me? I asked myself and gave up as he punched me down on my tummy, removing all the power I have.

I did not move as he started to undo my clothes. Yet, thankfully, the door smashed open and I saw Yrien standing, looking at us. Lucas immediately stood up and approached Yrien.

“Yrien… let me explain… She started it. She seduced me. When I was just going to go back in the party, she called and asked me to help her fix something. When I got here inside, she just kissed me and threw me to bed.” Liar! No Yrien. Don’t believe him! Don’t.. please…

“Don’t believe him Yrien! He dared to put his hands on me!” I said in a hysterical tone. I walked toward her while holding her blank stare. “Please Yrien… Just this time.. Believe me.. please…” But, she just slapped me..

“How could you!?” I looked at her and saw in her eyes the flooding anger and fury she managed to reserve for this day. “My parents adopted you and they provide everything for you… but this!? This is how you’ll pay back!? You slut orphan!”

My tears burst out and the room was filled with my sobs… with the pain and sorrow I bear… and the anger and fury she has for me. The Clifford couple found us and I saw sadness flashed on their face.

“What happened here?” Mrs. Clifford asked when no one of us dared to speak.

“She… That slut almost made out with my boyfriend!” Yrien furiously answered. “She seduced Lucas mom! She betrayed us!” Mr. and Mrs. Clifford looked at me. I don’t know how to feel. I don’t even think that I could still handle myself with the words they’re going to tell me. Of course, they will not believe you. They will believe Yrien.

And I just ran… out of the room... Away from them in this mystical gown... Away from the birthday palace… away from the too-good-to-be-true fairy tale… not knowing where I should go or what place I was passing through. I kept on running until the road got darker and darker, and the trees and bushes gradually grew taller and taller. Due to my clumsiness, I slipped and rolled down a hill, causing bruises and wounds on my arms and legs.

I opened my eyes as I stopped rolling down. The night seemed to be a wild ride. Few moments ago, I was a princess in a palace, subjected to be abused by the boyfriend of their true princess, and now… I was facing this beyond enchanting place… that could only be seen in dreams and well, fairy tale movies.

I was here in a place filled with flowers on the ground, tall trees dancing along, and this pond peacefully lying still. I looked at the moon smiling at me, and the horizon overflowing with stars. My tears triggered to escape again. Why is it always like this? Life.. life has never been fair to me.

One time, everything was fairly good. But then, it won’t last. Good things will easily be trashed and will be replaced with the worst ones. I am tired… tired of everything. I just wish! I just wish to have a happy life! I just wish to have a happy ending! Is it that hard to have? I did not resist anymore the tears escaping from my eyes. I burst out a loud sob, almost filling the whole place. I could even call myself ‘a damn crazy mystical-gowned girl’ for crying in a place this beautiful.

“I think you’re the one I’ve been looking for my whole life… my gorgeous damsel in distress.” A man’s voice made me stop crying. I turned around and saw a man wearing a phantom-like suit, making him look more powerful and undoubtedly handsome.

“Excuse me?” I eyed him, suspiciously looking. I examined his face. His mesmerizing eyes were deep brown. His nose is in a perfect angel. His thin red lips can make every girl’s mouth waters. The shape of his face was masculine as his body was full of muscles. He is every woman’s desire.

“You heard what I have said, my princess Alexandria.” I was surprised. How did he know my name? But before I could ask him, he handed me a locket- my family’s golden locket. This was my parent’s gift to me when I turned twelve.

“How did you get this?” I asked him in a cracked tone. For the first time after a long time ago, I was going to cry again not because of pain, but because of joy.

“Don’t you recognize me?” He asked me, pained. I examined his face for the second time and I noticed the scar on his lips. Someone flashed inside my head and my tears burst out in joy. I ran towards him and hugged him so tight.

I missed him. I missed him so much. “Why.. How.. How did you find me my angel…? Gabriel?”

“Simply because I am your angel and you are my princess.” He faced me and held my arms with his. Looking deeply into my eyes, he reminded me a solemn promise he made the day I was leaving the orphanage to live with the Cliffords. “To make our fairy tale do come true.”

In the middle of an enchanting place where the smiling moon, twinkling stars, dancing trees, blooming flowers, and sleeping lake silent in rejoice, he sealed his promise with not a true love’s kiss, but with filling the whole place with the sound of his beating heart singing only my name…

I closed my eyes as he hugged me tight. I now realized what my life has become. My life has always been a fairy tale… an extraordinary fairy tale, where there is no magic and fairies that might help. There is only the hope that should not be lost… the faith that once lost… and a promise that had been forgotten... yet still fulfilled.

I might not find a prince but I have an angel.

My fairy tale story might be strange but it is worth of all.

I might not receive the usual true love’s kiss of fairy tales, but the beating heart’s promise will forever be here.

BESTFRIEND

“I’ll never leave you. I promise.”  I said and picked her pinky finger with mine. “I promise too.” She sealed our solemn promise with those three words. That was the day I vowed to stay with her, to protect her, and to never hurt her, not expecting that I might fall in love with her.

She run toward me. Overflowing happiness could be seen in her eyes. I joyfully watched as she gracefully stood in front of me. “Hey best. I have a good news.” She said; eyes twinkling.

“Spill it.” I smiled back and patted her shoulders.

“Jeremy asked me out and he’s my date for the incoming prom night.” She giggled.

“T-That’s good.” I mumbled.

“You seem  bothered. Aren’t you happy for me?” She asked eyeing me.

I shrugged and held back my stare. The thought of her and Jeremy dating makes me feel sick, disoriented, and broken. But, I can do nothing. I’m her best friend- just her best friend.

“I’m just worried.” I held her hand as I held her eyes to mine. “All your past relationships hadn’t been good enough. You always end up crying.” I sighed. “I can’t afford to see you get hurt again.”

“Oh. Don’t worry best. I’m a tough girl and I know there’s nothing that can tear me apart… with you always by my side.” She hugged me tight and tucked her head like a child under my arms. “So, no worries. Okay?”

“Yeah.” I nod in approval, ignoring the pain clenching, crashing, and tearing my chest apart. “I gotta go.” I said and hurriedly walked away from her.

I walked home, lost. It’s like I’m moving but I can’t feel anything. As I entered my room, I was surprised. She jumped toward me and hugged me so tight.

“Oh I miss you dear cousin.” Her long black hair flickered against my face as she dragged me to the floor.

“I’m not in the mood Angel.” I toned seriously and she released me.

“Why? What happened?” Now she dragged me to a chair and made me sit. “Tell me.” She’s concern; I know.

“I can’t tell you. It’s quite complicated.” I answered in a desperate voice. However, she’s stubborn so she gave me a deadly glare.” Okay, okay! Fine. I’ll tell you.” I took a deep breath. “I tried not to.. but I failed. I.. It’s none of my expectations.” I sighed and continued. “I love her. I fell in love with my best friend.”

She smiled but there’s something wrong with her smile. I stared at
