“Okay, theyjust arrived.” Lucy announced, clapping like a fucking seal.
I tilted myhead back and rolled my eyes, spotting the top of the staircase. Awonderful memory entered my mind, bringing me back to when I snuckin here months ago and pushed Alexis down the stairs. The bitchdidn’t see it coming, just tumbled down those steps like a ragdoll.
I should’vestayed around to make sure I’d done the job properly, but hearingBryce in his office made me nervous. He could never know I was theone who had killed her; it had to look like an accident. Fuck, myonly regret was that I hadn’t killed her. Now I have to rethink andrework my plan to get rid of her for good.
The ding ofthe elevator snapped me out of my recollection, only to see myBryce and the bitch walk into the room.
“...andbecause you’re carrying my...”
The roomerupted into cheers of congratulations.
“...baby,”Bryce said with his hand on her stomach.
Are youfucking serious? Not again. Fuck!
I felt my bodyfill with rage, my limbs going rigid.
“Gareth, didyou hear that? She’s pregnant again.”
I staredAlexis down, wanting to set her alight with my murderous gaze.
“Gareth, areyou okay?”
“What?” Isnapped at Sam.
“Are youokay?” she repeated, looking scared.
Fuck it, Ican’t do this anymore. I can’t pretend to be Gareth and I don’twant to. I want this to end. I want it to fucking end. If I can’thave Bryce then neither of us will.
“No, I’m notokay, this ends here,” I hissed at Sam.
Then pushingpast one of Alexis’ stuck up bitch friends, I left theapartment.
This fuckingends here.
CHAPTERTHIRTY-THREE
Our friendsand family all made their way home shortly after staying for theafternoon tea Lucy had organised. Bryce had waited for them toleave before heading out in search of Gareth, both of us beingoverly concerned about the erratic behaviour Sam had mentioned.
He’d come backover an hour later after having no luck in finding his cousin, andI could tell he was deeply worried about the entire situation, about me and my safety, but also about Gareth. I think he realisedthat the meds and the therapy were no longer working, and thealternative form of treatment was not something he wanted toentertain.
Exhaustion hadeventually overcome him, seizing his mind and body and inevitablyleaving him asleep with his head on my chest and his arm across mybelly.

Bryce leftearly the next morning to have a meeting with Jessica aboutGareth’s state of mind while I tackled the ever increasing workloadthat being a personal assistant to Mr. Bryce Clark afforded me. Hewas worried about leaving me alone, but I assured him that I’d befine and that he was only going to be gone for a short period oftime. Being the over-protective arse that he was, he made me do mywork from his secured office. I secretly appreciated thisdemand.
Just as I wasfinishing a phone call with Chris from Marketing, I heard a loudclanging noise reverberating from the apartment. That’s strange,Bryce isn’t due back yet. Curious who could be making thenoise, I walked over to the door and typed in our security code. When it opened, I walked through, stepping into the dining roomonly to be met by the unmistakable stench of gas—the smellincredibly strong. Shit! Did Bryce leave the stove on? Panicwashed over me, knowing that from the gas’s potency, the vapourshad to be thick and in abundance.
I made thechoice to enter the kitchen and see if I was correct, hopefullybeing able to turn it off. As I approached the island bench thatseparated the kitchen from the dining room, Gareth shot up from hissquatted position down near the oven.
I froze.
You knowyou’re in trouble when you get that undeniable feeling deep down inthe pit of your stomach, that feeling telling you to be alertinstinctively. I had that particular feeling, and as I took inGareth’s appearance, I sensed he was not the one before me.Instead, Scott being present, and the gas smell a result of hisdoing.
“Gareth,” Isaid shakily. “What are you doing?” I tried to keep my voiceneutral and kind, but I was terrified, and my adrenalin waspumping, causing my brain to switch into survival mode.
He put bothhands on the bench and smiled at me with a grin so malicious it wasrevolting. “Just the person I was hoping to see,” he explained in atone laced with satisfaction. I noticed him clench his right handand rub his thumb over whatever he was holding.
Alarm bellswere sounding internally as my eyes automatically scouted thekitchen, noting that all the burner knobs on the stove were turnedon with no flame, the oven door also wide open.
“How did youget in here?”
“I have acode,” he said cockily.
“That’sstrange...we just changed the codes after the elevatormalfunctioned.”
He scoffed.“Why do you think the elevator malfunctioned? Lucy is not the onlyone in the family that is good with computers.”
The pit of mystomach dropped, but I forced myself to remain calm.“Oh...so...what can I do for you? Do you want to go and sit in thelounge or in Bryce’s office?” Get out of this kitchen,Alexis.
“Do you thinkI’m stupid?” he said calmly, still displaying his evil smile.
“No, Gareth. Why would I think you’re stupid?” I playfully laughed.
“You’refucking doing it again,” he screamed at me, making me jump.
Tears stung meeyes as my fear hit a newfound heightened level. I began totremble. “What? What am I doing?”
He pointed hishand at me, revealing that what he was holding was a lighter.“You’re fucking treating me like a fool. Gareth is a fucking fool, not me.”
“Scott? Oh,I’m sorry Scott. No, you’re not a fool,” I sobbed.
“Ahhh,” helaughed sadistically, “So now you understand. Now you want to behonest with me.”
“I have beenhonest,” I pleaded with him.
“Fuckingbullshit,” he spat back.
He took a stepback toward the stove, leaning over and checking the knobs. Iwanted to run out of the kitchen but my legs were weighted heavilyto the ground, riddled with fear and unfortunately forcing me tostay put.
Reasoning withhim was my only option. “Scott, talk to me. Tell me what youwant.”
“I want youdead,” he replied flatly.
