Atlas twisted his neck from side to side, feeling the small crunch of bones popping before he walked to the first pile and got to work. All the supplies were in the room and the lathe was nearby, so his work was a steady flow.

He fell into a rhythm with each work order. Sawdust flew everywhere and scraps of wood collected in piles as he created all the items. From time to time, he glimpsed Joe as he walked through and cleaned up some of the mess to get it out of Atlasโ€™ way. It took roughly the entire day, but he finally finished and stepped back to admire the neat stacks of finished items on each of the pallets.

His attention shifted to notification since heโ€™d drowned them out during his work.

Giddy with excitement, he had Joe accept all five work orders after he verified they were complete.

You gained 4,600 experience.

Success! You reached level 19.

Not only did he get a level and gain a ton of experience for both his crafting and his weapon, he also netted a hefty profit of 41 gold and 55 silver. That payday alone was enough to cover an entire month for him in the real world and he accomplished it in a day in game.

With the stress of finances falling off his shoulders, he bid Joe farewell and walked from the shop. A quick detour to the bank was his first priority, and he dropped 40 of his almost 44 gold into the bank for safekeeping, increasing his stockpile to 74 gold in the bank.

When his foot hit the cobblestone path outside the bank, a young man approached him with sandy blonde hair and a dust covered face. A leather satchel rested on his hip and he dug out a rolled piece of paper.

โ€œAtlas?โ€ the young man asked.

โ€œYes. Can I help you?โ€

The messenger handed him the letter with a slight bow of his head.

โ€œCourtesy of The Kingdom Courier, sir.โ€

Atlas accepted the letter with a grin and dug through his bag. He placed a silver piece in the boyโ€™s hand with his thanks and the messenger scurried away. Atlas unfurled the letter.

Atlas,

Weโ€™ve decided to evaluate you for the mission. Meet us at The Dusky Lady at 7PM.

FaceStomper55

He read it over again to verify the message and glanced to his game clock. It showed 6:30PM. He dashed to the closest guard and asked for directions. The inn wasnโ€™t far away, so he ran through the streets, dodging around people as he made a beeline for the location.

His foot landed on the small porch in front of the building as his clock ticked to 6:58. He took a few seconds to catch his breath and take in big gulps of air before striding into the building.

A busy crowd filled the place and the smell of something that looked like stew mingled with the smell of slightly sour beer. He scanned the room until he spotted a group of five people mingling near the back corner. They looked out of place and didnโ€™t blend in to the natural atmosphere, so Atlas approached.

โ€œLooks like the druid made it in the nick of time,โ€ a burly man said. A bushy beard and patches of chain mail rounded out his appearance.

Atlas nodded in agreement before extending a hand, โ€œAtlas.โ€

The man took his hand in a firm grip and shook, โ€œFaceStomper.โ€

He motioned for Atlas to sit in an empty chair nearby and then continued talking, โ€œAlright people. The three of us,โ€ he began while waving at himself and his two closest companions, โ€œhave a dungeon to clear. Itโ€™s an unknown place and a bit of a secret. Honestly, we donโ€™t know what to expect but because of the secrecy of it we plan to approach it cautiously. We decided bringing in a healer would be the best option. You three,โ€ he said as he waved at Atlas and the two robed figures near him, โ€œare here to try out for the job.โ€

โ€œAs much as I enjoy exploring unknown places. What are the loot rules and is there a guaranteed payout for this?โ€ One of the robed figures asked, his face obscured by a hood.

โ€œLoot Master rules. We control all loot and have first pick from our core group. Anything we donโ€™t want, you are given if you plan to use it. If you only plan to sell it, we keep it instead.โ€

The other two figures shuffled in place while Atlas frowned.

Doesnโ€™t seem worth it to take this kind of risk for a chance at nothing more than cast-offs.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry though,โ€ FaceStomper began with his hands raised in placation, โ€œthere is a mercenary fee for you and it will be in the party contract. We are offering 20 gold if we take you on the trip and an additional 80 gold for completing the dungeon.โ€

What? 100 gold for running a dungeon? That canโ€™t be right. We are still low level.

โ€œYouโ€™re serious?โ€ The other robed figure asked.

โ€œAbsolutely. Itโ€™s a guaranteed pay
