I looked at Oracle and I saw the same hunger in her eyes that I just knew was in mine. We were going to use that book. It was huge, compared to the others, and the spell itself wasn’t going to be that useful in combat straight away. It had clearly been designed to use on a victim that was strapped down and couldn’t escape, rather than in a fight, and I felt Oracle sifting through the details of where it had come from with a Golem.
“This was hidden behind a false panel…along with those knives…” Oracle said finally, pointing to a pair of innocuous blades in the weapons pile.
I picked them up, and one after the other, used ‘Examine.’

“Fuck me.” I whispered, turning the daggers over in my hands. They didn’t seem like much, but hell, they were impressive. The hilts of both were made of leather, but they were ridged and formed, clearly designed to fit a particular man’s hands perfectly. The blades were long, slightly curved, and had a thick, chisel-tip design that made me think of a Tanto. They were also razor sharp, and the metal they were made from had a peculiar color that seemed to shift, depending on the angle.
I set them aside and looked over the rest of the glittering pile. There were items that glowed faintly, and others that seemed totally innocuous. Among them lay a full suit of golden plate mail armor and a half dozen smaller pieces. The variety swung from pristine breastplates that fairly glowed with power, to a pair of boots that looked just…nasty. The leather was worn and scuffed, the soles were battered, and the laces that ran up the inside of the leg were frayed and tattered.
Realizing that the Legionnaires were still packing gear away in the bags, I moved to the pile that looked the most useful after the books: the magical artifacts. We’d collected three bags, two satchels, and a small pile of figurines that glowed with a disturbing yellow-green light. There were also a handful of rings, necklaces and random crap that looked to be parts of sets, such as a dozen glittering pins , but I had no clue what they could be for.
I decided that, while I couldn’t afford the drain on my mana to identify most of it immediately, I’d check the bags over, as they could be useful, I chugged another weak mana potion that I picked up from the pile of potions, and downed it, just in case.

“Okay, Oracle…” I started to ask, and she cut me off.
“The Expert bag and the Master bag both have one hundred slots, but because the weight reduction is so amazing on the Spatial Folding bag, it’s pushed into the ‘Master’ ranks, when the hundred slots should normally be an Expert level.”
“Oh, okay. And the first bag? How come the other two are a hundred and that one’s sixty-two?” I asked.
“No idea. Probably a Journeyman level skilled crafter that had a particularly good or bad day. I’m really not that into crafting, Jax, sorry. You need to speak to Heph about it; he’ll chew your ear off all day on this kind of thing, but it doesn’t really interest me,” Oracle said, shrugging, and I dropped it, figuring that was fair enough.
I’d always liked crafting in the games I’d played, but right now, considering everything that was going on, I just didn’t have the goddamn time to fuck about with it. I’d do some more alchemy when I got the chance, probably, but right now there was a bed calling to me and a long walk to go before I could get there.
“Okay, gather it all up,” I said to the people around me, passing the first two bags out and keeping the Master one. I emptied my gear out onto the floor and put it back into the Bag of Spatial Folding instead, before passing my old Journeyman bag to a Legionnaire who’d just returned, lugging a clearly heavy bag from one of the storerooms. “Leave about ten percent of everything in the storerooms so that if the Genesis chamber can be fixed, there’s some material for it to use, but otherwise, I want this place stripped in ten minutes,” I called out, pushing to my feet and lifting the heavy bag onto my back, with the Spatial
