the small of Teagan’s back, Jonah pulled her towards him and she offered no resistance. Gently tilting her face up to his, slowly and very deliberately, he brought his mouth down on hers.

It flashed through Teagan’s mind to question what on earth she was doing, but Jonah’s lips like soft velvet moving to her throat pushed all thoughts from her mind and the urge to feel his mouth all over her grew, wanting this man like no other. With one of his hands still at the base of her spine, the other now clutched in the back of her hair, her arms moved to wrap around Jonah’s neck. Hearing herself whimper with longing when Jonah’s mouth crashed back on hers, his kisses now deep and urgent, heat rose from her in blinding waves.

Effortlessly lifting her onto his desk, Jonah swiped the paperwork out of the way with one hand. As his fingers found their way under her skirt, Teagan pulled at his shirt, running her fingers over his heavily muscled torso and then fumbled with the zip of his trousers.

‘Jonah? Are y... Oh!’ Gwen froze in the study doorway.

Jonah pulled his mouth from Teagan’s and glared at Gwen. ‘Doesn’t anyone knock around here?’

‘Sorry, I’ll wait out here,’ Gwen spluttered, quickly closing the door behind her as she stepped out of the study, mortified.

‘Oh my God!’ Teagan cried, scrambling from the desk, hastily straightening her clothes.

Rearranging himself, Jonah stared intensely at Teagan, her mouth still swollen from his hard kisses. ‘I guess I should see what the problem is.’ He dropped heavily into his desk chair. ‘GWEN!’

Re-entering the room, her face crimson, Gwen glanced first at Teagan, then at Jonah, who didn’t look at all pleased. ‘I-I’m sor...’

‘Save it!’ Jonah waved his hand at Gwen, indicating for her to take a seat. ‘What is it?’ He glanced at Teagan hovering uncomfortably near the bookshelves. Christ, why had Gwen chosen that moment to need to speak to him? He raked his fingers through his now tousled hair, glad the desk concealed his still raging arousal. ‘What is so important to rush back from the Feathers for?’

Clearing her throat, Gwen placed the newspaper down in front of Jonah. ‘I thought you should see this...’

ROBERT’S FACE SET LIKE THUNDER as he thraped his car along the road. The final insult – not only had Teagan ruined his life by sparking the capacity within him to feel something, but then allowing that bastard, Saul Powell, to manhandle her, now she was allowing another one of them to put their hands on her, the little tart.

And Jonah Powell of all people?

He’d have thought out of all of them, Jonah might have had enough self-respect to not want his brother’s sloppy seconds, but apparently not.

Robert gritted his teeth. He might have bloody known. Crunching the gears loudly, he took the roundabout at ludicrous speed.

Now O’Hara had dropped the trace there was no need to hang around. In all honesty, he wasn’t hanging around for that anyhow. O’Hara was sod all to do with him. All he’d been waiting for was confirmation his task was complete and courtesy of the breaking news on his laptop not half an hour past, he’d received it.

Robert’s eyes narrowed. Why had be bothered though? When he’d heard noise from down the corridor he should have ignored it, but as usual, he’d felt he should investigate. Had he not done the man enough favours? And this was how he got repaid?

But now he’d seen it with his own eyes – Teagan kissing Jonah Powell, like the vile tramp she was.

Well, Jonah was taking the piss. Robert growled to himself. Teagan should have been his and would have been had everything not been ruined.

Grating his teeth harder, Robert stamped on the accelerator.

After that he wasn’t hanging around for one second longer. He’d have just quietly walked away before, but now it was different. He wasn’t staying in that nest of backstabbing freaks. Neither was he letting this latest attack go unpunished.

They’d planned it. All of it. They’d all manufactured this on purpose to rub it in. They’d engineered it so he would never have what he was owed.

But he could wait. He would wait thirty years if he had to.

TEAGAN WAS TOO DISTRACTED with racing thoughts swirling through her mind with what would have happened had it not been for Gwen’s interruption to take much notice of the expression on Jonah’s face.

She forced herself to overcome her burning embarrassment to move her eyes in Gwen’s direction, finding her studying her questioningly.

As their eyes met, she gave a weak smile. What would Gwen think of her now? Would she think she had thrown herself at Jonah – or the other way around? It wasn’t like that – it had... just happened... And she had no explanation for it.

Suddenly, Teagan’s attention was brought sharply into focus when Jonah jumped from his chair. ‘I’ll get Robert now. He’ll want to know about this.’

Wide-eyed, Teagan looked from Jonah to Gwen as Jonah dashed from the study up the corridor. She edged towards Gwen, her hands trembling. ‘Gwen, I...’

‘Forget whatever you’re thinking - you need to look at this.’ She jerked her head towards the newspaper open on Jonah’s desk.

Warily, Teagan moved around the other side of the desk, getting a heady waft of the lingering scent of Jonah’s aftershave in the air. Shaking her head in a bid to concentrate, she peered at the article:

Murder Suspect Apprehended and Charged

Police were alerted by an anonymous caller to a possible attack in Maidenhead on 11th July. Although at first glance it seemed Dulcie Adams, 65, had died peacefully at her home in Frogmore Road, on closer inspection suspicious motives were uncovered, due to items found at the scene.

The man present at Mrs Adams’ property, claiming to be living there was arrested and after further investigation, has today been charged with murder.

Heath Pointer (26), of Shepherds Bush,
