am empty for sure.

"God, Denue. What are we doing to each other?" she says, after swallowing it all down.

I take hold of her body and succumb into a gripping caress. Our wet chins meet.

"I have always wanted you. You know that,” I tell her. β€œEver since the interview. And I know it's mutual."

"Oh, yeah. It is."

"This year has taught me to go for what I want and not worry about regrets. Because life is short and unpredictable. What I want is you, Nellie. I always have."

Looking sleepy, she takes her time blinking.

"I feel the same way, boss. You mean everything to me."

"Merry Christmas, baby," I say to her. "Now that I have you, I’m never letting you go."

But she's already asleep again. Feeling happy and whole, I close my eyes too.

Chapter Nine

Nellie

"It's fucking weird, that's why."

"What? You've never had breakfast for dinner?" he says.

"In movies, it's a thing, but in real life, it sounds like the craziest idea ever."

Okay, maybe not the craziest, I think, last night replaying in my mind.

"Well, the chicken was not cooked. It's grilled sandwiches for now, and fantastic ice cream sherbet, homemade, for later. What do you say?"

"Sure. Why not?”

After we eat our sandwiches, he says, "Why don't we go and open the presents?"

My mouth drops. "There are presents?"

"Well, yeah. Tis the season, right? Come on."

I spoke too soon.

"You have a tree? Since when?"

"Okay. You are a really heavy sleeper. I got last year's one from the garage outside and decorated it withβ€”"

"That is the cutest thing I have ever seen," I say, interrupted him as soon as we get into the living room.

At the top of the tree is the only decoration: a printed picture of us at the office, months ago, before the pandemic even started, laughing at something the cameraman had said. It’s the only picture that exists of us.

"You kept it."

"I did," he says, and then adds, "Open your present."

He points at a red box with my initials on the wrapping paper. He really does think of everything and covers every detail.

As I unwrap it and then crack open my box, my lips shudder in disbelief as I see the big, shiny ring.

I look at him aghast. He nods, as if trying to convince me I should take this seriously.

"I know it’s soon. But I haven’t had these feelings for anyone before, ever. I have been in only two other relationships, and both ended with indifference. This feels real, Nels. This feels right. And I know it makes no sense, it feels rushed, but in my heart, I know for a fact that we are meant to figure the rest of our lives together."

This... is this really happening?

He rubs his hands against my own and gets down on one knee. He breathes onto my skin and kisses it. This is not a dream.

"Look,” he says, gesturing outside. β€œWhat more do we need to show us that this is fate?"

The window behind us is sheathed, and snowflakes loosely flutter in the wind. Crystals of snow dance in the air, falling beautifully on the pane. I turn to him, shaking all over.

β€œNellie, will you marry me?”

"Yes. Let's do it!"

He lunges at me, hoists me high up and feels my body on his. Grateful and smiling, he chases me down to 'our' room, puts the ring on my finger, kisses away my tears, and makes me feel like the happiest fiancΓ©e a girl could ever want to be.

This has definitely been the best Christmas ever, and I can only imagine what the future has in store for us.

Although I don’t want to have be on lockdown, I’m glad I get to be here with him while we do it.

Now I just have to figure out how to tell my mom about this very fast development!

Epilogue

Nellie

One year later

Everyone's here. Everyone.

The vaccine was distributed to everyone about three months ago. Denue and I got it, and made sure all our wedding guests had gotten it too, just so we could finally fucking celebrate for real.

For close to a year, my fiancΓ© and I spent the days working and fucking, talking and cumming, looking at the stars and going through winter, spring, and summer together, away from people.

I have no idea how we all coped with the long lockdown, but I was not alone, and am grateful that I made the choice to be with him.

With Denue's hand in mine, we say our vows to each other. When we’re done, the sky couldn’t be any clearer as we dance together, watched by everyone we love.

"I know your dad and grandma would have loved to be here," says Denue, swinging me around, kissing my ear.

"Your dad too," I whisper. β€œBut otherwise, everything has been perfect.”

"Then we should make a run for it."

The music stops, and the guests cheer. Some of them get up to dance, and Denue breaks us off and away from them.

"Run to where, babe?"

"To our honeymoon to make babies, of course. The tank on the private jet is full right now, and I can’t wait any longer."

Laughing, I grab his arm and tell him that we could never leave our wedding reception without saying goodbye to our mothers. Mine was very surprised when I told her the news, but soon came around. Now she’s glad to have gained Denue as a son-in-law.

But, I add, we can momentarily step out. Then I usher him past the cheerful reception, and through the emptying hallways and stop at the church vestry. I lock the door behind us, take my veil off, and unzip the back of my white gown. He’s already taking his very hard cock out
