The bunker wouldn’t know what hit it when they arrived to free everyone Ryder loved. She buried her hand in Leandro’s fur and linked her other arm through Massimo’s.
Afana, we’re coming for you!

Author’s Notes - Hayley Lawson

Hey Guys,
Hayley here. Thank you for reading Madness Rising, and also my Author Notes!
As a child, I loved to act. I always wanted to be on television. Over the years my nervousness at reading out loud kept me from acting (because I suck at it!)
Reading was hard for me, but watching television wasn’t. I was able to lose myself in worlds on the television. Growing up in England meant I had three tv channels. Yes, you heard me right—three tv channels! There wasn’t much of a selection and in my house, there were six kids and my mum with one tv!
I watched cop shows like, The Bill and Cracker, the English version of Law and Order, comedy shows like Only Fools and Horse, series like, EastEnders, and Casualty, the English version of ER, the guys no way as good looking as George Clooney.
When Michael and I chat about our new stories he refers to the stories he’s read, and he’s read a lot! Whereas I, on the other hand…I know movies, which can make our conversations very interesting.
My daughter Callie loves movies just as much as I do, and we go at least once a month. It’s our date night. Guess which movies she loves? Action and adventure, just like me. My husband Gavin said he’ll watch my story when it comes out in the movies.
I was thinking back to the tv I grew up watching, and I realized it has shaped my writing styles: action, thriller, and horror. I like to pay out the stories in my head as if they are my very own movie.
One thing Michael has taught me is to add humor to my writing. I never thought I could add humor to scary stories.
My goal has gone from scaring the shit out of you to making you laugh so hard along the way you have to pause to catch your breath.
I’d love to hear which parts made you laugh. it would be great if you could add it into the review you leave for the book. (if you leave one, which I hope you will since I love reading them.)
The scene that made me laugh the most was the one with Tightwad and his colorful sweater that looked like a rainbow threw up on it. I got the idea for that after a night out in England with my brothers and sisters. We went to a nightclub and they painted the partygoers faces with glitter, so we looked like a fairy had farted on us.
The next morning, we were still covered in glitter. It was as if they’d glued it to our faces! Funny thing is, I could say that’s what happens when you’re young and stupid, but it was only last year. I’m no longer young, but clearly still stupid—or as I term it, “up for fun!”
Cheers again for your time!
I’m off now to wrap up book three. Are you ready for Ryder to serve up a huge portion of justice?

Author Notes - Michael Anderle

I appreciate the fact that you worked your way through all of the book to make it here to my notes!
I want to take a moment and tell a story, about our artist.
I ‘found’ Mihaela Voicu one day when in 20Booksto50k and she shared a cover on one of the threads related to artist(s).
I was lusting over that cover! The amount of detail she had in it caused me to want to crawl into the scene, and start looking around. If there was ever a moment I would have appreciated the option to jump into virtual space and enjoy myself, that was a moment.
I then did a little spying sorry, research and located her artist(s) website. I proceeded to look over her art there, as well.
Mihaela is talented, and I really wanted her to work on some of our new books in the Age of Magic arena. I reached out to her, CM Raymond and LE Barbant to see if everyone thought she would be a good choice and had the time to work on our Rise of Magic series.
THEY DID AND SHE DID!
Over the next year, Mihaela would go on to work on MANY of series in the Age of Magic, and now has branched out into our Age of Madness (this series) and Interplanetary Spy for Hire series (coming later).
My job as almighty Poohbah and Indie Publisher is to try and work with some of the best talent and make them available for my collaborators.
Mihaela fits that bill to a ‘T’. Her work is SO good, you can’t (often) tell what is real, what is photoshopped (some of her trees are strictly constructs, made from dozens or hundreds of little pieces) and what is 3D.
However, they are all good.
She is one of the sweetest ladies to work with and here is the cool aspect I always brag about:
She lives in Transylvania.
If you would like to check out other work by her just jump over to her website at: http://www.mihaelavoicu.com/
IT’S ABOUT SUMMARIES AND WICKED EVIL ACCENTS
Well, sort of.
“Steve” in the reviews, you humored me with your one-sentence summary of the first story: Madness Unleashed which is:
“A vegetarian vampire and a white werewolf team up with a girl masquerading as a man to destroy a old vampire that escaped BA’s search for the old nosferatu.”
There is SO much to unpack in that sentence, that it makes my eyes cross. However, it really IS the summary of the book.
A vegetarian vampire? Where the hell did THAT come from?
The answer, like so many of the items in these stories, is Hayley Lawson. If you ever get a chance, listen to Hayley talk. She has this accent that makes ‘everything ok’ and she aware it works.
