because I had heard them! In factโ€ฆ โ€œThat reminds me,โ€ I said, turning to Angelique, โ€œthereโ€™s something that the one said before I blasted him, something that I wanted to ask you about.โ€

                โ€œYou had me at โ€˜talking golemโ€™.โ€ she said, smiling.

                I thought for a moment, then it returned to my memory. โ€œIt said something about notifying โ€˜Queen Aleenaโ€™โ€ฆ does that name ring any bells?โ€

                The smile faded from her face so seamlessly, the change was almost subtle. โ€œAnd youโ€™re sure that they saidโ€ฆ โ€œQueen Aleena.โ€

                โ€œI can almost see it in my head,โ€ I said, eyes closed, โ€œIt said โ€˜Notify Queen Aleenaโ€ฆ โ€˜, and then unfortunately exploded into dirt from the bolt that I shot at it.โ€

                โ€œWhatโ€™s the story?โ€ Vincent asked.

                This means that her memory connected to this name is old, I thought, if itโ€™s before Vincent.

                โ€œI shall look into this.โ€ she said, starting to glide towards the exit. โ€œI will reveal all, soonโ€ฆ if itโ€™s needed.โ€ she added, catching my eye before leaving.

                Ever mysteriousโ€ฆ

                                                                                                *                *                *

                โ€œHey, kid!โ€

                I seriously did not want to open my eyes. I had finally taken a napโ€ฆ missions in different time zones played with my sleep scheduleโ€ฆ and felt like I had just closed my eyes when someone decided to wake me up in the most annoying way possible.

                โ€œI swear,โ€ I said groggily, โ€œwhoever is poking me in the head had better get a good head start, because I sense a bone shard in a very uncomfortable place in your futureโ€ฆ โ€œ

                I reluctantly opened my eyes, only to see a face that I hadnโ€™t seen in almost a year.

                Itโ€™s the cave dweller I thought, the Mediterranian-looking woman from some of my earliest visions not named Penelope.

                โ€œIโ€™d be fascinated to see you try that one on me.โ€ she said, her long black hair swaying as she gave a mirthless chuckle. โ€œCome on, kidโ€ฆ weโ€™ve gotta talk.โ€

                We walked down the hallway that we had walked down before, with the self-lighting torches illuminating our way. It had been several seasons since weโ€™d spoken, but it felt like no time had passed.

                โ€œLong time no see, huh?โ€ I said finally.

                โ€œSorry for the ghosting, kid,โ€ she replied, โ€œbut I just couldnโ€™t take the inner dialogโ€ฆ โ€˜does Angelique love me, do I love her, yadda yaddaโ€™. It made me want to slap you, tell the truth.โ€

                That was, I felt, completely unfair. โ€œWell, give me a break, this shitโ€™s new to me!โ€

                โ€œWhat, you think I knew everything when I was chosen?โ€ she retorted. โ€œFuck no. I had to feel my wayโ€ฆ and I came from an illiterate society, to boot, soโ€ฆ bucking convention, all that shit? Ten thousand times more difficult!โ€

                โ€œSo,โ€ I said, cutting her off, โ€œwhy did you make contact? It certainly wasnโ€™t just to critique my relationship skills, right?โ€

                โ€œI should have, but no.โ€ she said, pointing at me. โ€œNo, Iโ€™m just wanting to talk to you about prophecy.โ€

                โ€œOh, fucking great!โ€ I exclaimed. โ€œSo, on top of being the Sorceress, and having someone trying to kill me, and having a relationship status that resembles biblical genealogy charts in complexity, now I'm the subject of some lame-ass prophecy?โ€

                โ€œActually, Iโ€™m talking about your powers of prophecy.โ€ the woman replied.

                โ€œOh.โ€ I said, chastened.

                โ€œYeah, psychic levels of prophecy are part and parcel of the powers of the Sorceress.โ€ she continued. โ€œNot just you, either, but people around you.โ€

                โ€œPeople around me?โ€ I repeated, feeling a sinking feeling in my stomach.

                โ€œYeah, the soldier chick is psychic as all hell.โ€ she said, confirming my suspicions.

                โ€œTrust your gut, kid.โ€ she continued, almost reading my thoughts. โ€œIt could save everyoneโ€™s lives.โ€

                                                                                                *                *                *

                โ€œSo, I just had a talk with Tiffany, before you guys called me back here.โ€ I said, leaning naked against Vincentโ€™s bare chest. โ€œIโ€™ll be starting work with her tomorrow, to develop her psychic abilities.โ€

                โ€œShe really had us going, that vision she had of the dead people inside the stronghold.โ€ he replied, stroking my hair.

                โ€œI wasnโ€™t expecting that from her, honestly.โ€ Gaia added, laying face down across my lap and stroking my calf. โ€œI didnโ€™t get any โ€˜latent psychicโ€™ vibes from her.โ€

                โ€œWell, it seems that just being around me can awaken abilities in people who have never had them before.โ€ I said, waving my hands around like a movie wizard casting CGI spells. I rolled my eyes and grinned. Sometimes, you just have to laughโ€ฆ to keep from curling up into a ball until retirement age!

                "Any idea of who this cavewoman even is?" Vincent asked. "She's given you good info thus far, but it's always good to know where the advice is coming from."

                โ€œNo clue.โ€ I replied. โ€œI just know that Aโ€ฆ โ€œ I continued, counting on my fingers, โ€œโ€ฆ sheโ€™s incredibly old, B, sheโ€™s insanely powerful, and C, the only reasons I can say that I โ€˜knowโ€™ these things is because she told me that I should trust my gut. I canโ€™t help it if it just feels right.โ€

                โ€œIf you were anyone else, Iโ€™d warn you against confusing wishful thinking with intuition.โ€ Vincent said. โ€œBut I know that the Sorceress is supposed to have an almost preternaturally accurate gut, so Iโ€™ll go along.โ€

                โ€œI know that you have a supernatural ability to know what I like.โ€ Gaia said with a lusty grin. She slowly started to trace a path up my thigh with her soft, thin fingers. โ€œI think itโ€™s my turn to test my psychic sexuality.โ€

                โ€œI have a year's advantageโ€ฆ " Vincent said, looking down into my heavy-lidded eyes, "โ€ฆ of knowing what you like. But I doubt that you'll mind if I rest on my laurels." He kissed me as Gaia found her mark, and I surrendered to their loving.
