“Yes, but as much as I hate to suggest it due to wanting more time with my daughters, I think it best if you all headed back to the States tonight rather than in the morning. With Kean popping his ugly head back up, it would be safer for them to get away sooner.” The man is smart and always looking out for what’s best for his girls.
“You’re right. It would be. I have not only my wife to think of, but our son and the child she’s carrying,” Dean mutters in agreement.
“I’ll call and make the arrangements with the pilot,” Kenyon declares and leaves the room to do just that.
“One more thing I wanted to speak with you about,” Tomás states, his attention focused on me.
“And that would be?” I ask.
“Have you consummated the marriage to my daughter yet?” Blinking at the father of my wife, I’m astounded he’d ask this, but at the same time, I shouldn’t be.
“No,” I mutter honestly.
Tomás nods and looks away for a moment contemplating something before he turns back to me with a look of pain. “She’s not had it easy and she holds secrets she doesn’t think I know of. Bridget doesn’t even know. It’s because of what her sister went through that I tightened up on their security and made sure I knew where they were at all times.
“I’m sure by now you’ve heard the rumor that sticks to those who are on these grounds or work with my security team. One of the men who used to work for me died at my hands in this very building for his touching of my daughter. He hurt my little girl and in doing so, I ripped him apart piece by piece making sure to make an example of him for his treachery of going against me,” Tomás says through clenched teeth.
“You didn’t have to tell me this for me to understand that Alison is special and needs to be handled with care. But I will say this, I won’t take what she’s not ready to give. She’s my wife but only when she’s ready will I officially make her mine in every way possible. As for the rumors, Marc relayed the rumors he’d heard. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce it’d been Alison who’d been attacked,” I growl, not wanting to speak of this with anyone. It shouldn’t even be spoken of with anyone but Alison, but this will only happen when she’s ready.
Until then, I’ll continue to take what she’s giving me now.
“Call me with the time to be at the airstrip and I’ll be there with Alison. Could you have someone pack her things for her? I’m not taking her out of the cottage until it’s time to head to the jet,” I say, speaking to Dean as he’s my boss, my best friend, and now brother-in-law.
“Yeah, I’ll make sure of it,” he confirms with a jerk of his chin.
Nodding, I turn on my heels and head outside to the car. I climb in, start the engine, put it in reverse, back out, and switch it into drive as I head in the direction of the cottage and my wife.
When we get to the States, I’m not taking her straight home. No, I’ve got a surprise for her and in that time, I’m going to start entwining our hearts together as she’s mine.
Chapter Ten
Alison
The past two weeks have seemed like such a blur, but not in a bad way. In fact, it’d been amazing, starting with waking up in the cottage to Mitch’s hands running along my spine and his lips pressed against my temple.
Evidently, that morning, I slept through him leaving to go to a meeting with my da. When he got back, he’d woken me up, the two of us ate a late breakfast, then he’d given me time to shower and get dressed for the day. My overnight bag, I’d packed, held a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt that said I had two moods: ‘One - hello, Two - I’ll cut you’.
When I saw it online, it made me giggle and I bought it at the spur of the moment. I also bought a few others, like for instance another one I own says, ‘Hold on, I need to overthink this’.
Mitch and I spent the afternoon lying in bed pretty much doing the same thing as the night before after he got a kick out of seeing me once I’d showered. He’d read my shirt and laughed while shaking his head. We’d fooled around until he’d gotten a call. I protested at the interruption, but he promised to make it up to me, and he did. But not in the way I wanted him to, or at least not until the next day after we’d gotten off the jet.
The call he’d received was to tell him it’d been time for us to get to the airstrip. He explained we were heading home that night rather than the next day. Da met us there in order to say goodbye to me. I’d cried in his arms, wishing he didn’t have to be so far away from me. However, he’d promised to come visit Bridget and me soon.
Once we’d landed in the States, instead of Mitch taking me to his house, or well, our house as he called it, he drove us several hours away to a village called Frisco. He explained to me that this area is known as the Outer Banks. An area that was nothing more than an island that had water on two different sides.
I didn’t have a problem with this, because the next day I’d woken up to the sight of the ocean outside our bedroom door. I’d opened the door to hear the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore, and I couldn’t wait to sink my toes
