myself for wasting all that time.” She turned to face me. “But at the same time, there is a loss there and I felt l should wait for some time to pass before getting in another relationship.” Her eyes were teary, but she refused to let her tears fall while she stepped even closer to me. “But for some reason you make me want whatever this is between us.”

Her eyes looked down to my lips and then back up to my eyes. Her face was mere inches from mine. The desire was all over her face, and I slammed my lips to hers. Wrapping her arms around my waist, she opened her mouth inviting my tongue to tangle with hers. I couldn’t stop even if I tried. I would never get enough of her. I wanted all of her and I wanted to give all of me to her as well. Even if that meant we were temporary because she didn’t want to live here. I wanted whatever she was willing to give. She finally pulled away but held onto my hands while looking into my eyes. She held them for a moment. Finally, I spoke when she removed her touch from me.

“We don’t have to define what this is. I want to make you happy. And your ex, she didn’t deserve you. You have every right to feel however you are feeling. Thank you for being vulnerable with me.”

“This is me. I told you way too much about me today. You need to fill me in about you tomorrow. Right now, dinner is ready.”

“I’ll get plates.”

We sat down at the table to eat together. “Thank you for being so open with me.”

“Sure. No use hiding anything. It’s only fair you know who I am and how I grew up. And it doesn’t seem like I scared you away yet.”

“Nope. I’m still here and I’m not going anywhere.”

“Good. How is it?”

“It’s wonderful. Thanks for cooking.” Rylee made a sheet pan meal of pork chops and vegetables. It was the perfect light meal. She also made cinnamon rolls for breakfast tomorrow, too.

“I’ll clean up,” I insisted after she was cooking all evening.

“I can help.”

“Nope. You can keep me company while I load the dishwasher. I insist.” I moved to plant a kiss on her nose.

“You’re not going to jerk-off before we go to bed tonight, are you?”

“If I don’t, I can’t be responsible for my behavior and I’m really trying to be good here. And you’re making it more and more difficult.”

Chapter Thirteen

RYLEE

Last night, Levi was on his best behavior. Of course, he plopped a large pillow in between us. I removed my sleep mask and looked over to find he was gone.

Getting out of bed, I got dressed in a pair of shorts and a tank top before heading to see what Levi was up to.

I found him in the living room on what sounded like a personal phone call. Once he saw me, he held his finger up letting me know he’d be a minute. He headed outside causing me to wonder what that was about. I wondered if it would be rude of me to ask about it.

“Sorry about that. How did you sleep?” he said, stepping back in.

“I slept great. You?”

“Good. I got the cinnamon rolls warming up. They should be ready.”

“It smells so good.”

I watched as Levi pulled them out of the oven and put one on each plate. “It seems like you have something on your mind. Are you okay?”

He smiled. “Of course, Cupcake. I’m getting to spend another whole day with you and then we have all day tomorrow.” He pulled me close to him and kissed my forehead. “Let’s eat. I’m starving.”

With coffee poured in our mugs, we sat at the table, looking out at the ocean crashing into the beach. It was romantic, waking up early, eating our meal together, and watching the sun rising up. This really was paradise and so very different from Temecula. But being able to visit the beach and seeing palm trees made me happy.

“Want to sit outside?” Levi asked after we ate.

“Yeah. It looks a little cloudy out, so at least I won’t get burned.”

“Oh, I forgot something.” He ran back in the house to retrieve something. “I got this earlier for you. Might soothe your skin.” He passed a bottle of aloe vera to me.

My burn was very light, so it barely hurt. It was more of a little sting but nothing I couldn’t handle. “I appreciate this. Thank you.”

“Sure. Want me to rub some on your back?”

“Yes, please.”

I moved so I was lying flat on the beach towel. Levi squirted some liquid on my skin and it was cold at first. Levi began working aloe into my skin. “That feels so good.” His hands were muscular, and it felt like he was giving me a massage. “I could probably fall asleep if I wanted to.”

I heard him chuckle. “I have been told I’m good with my hands.”

“Conceited.”

My eyes felt so lazy when I finally sat up and opened them up. “Thank you. That felt good, and it did ease the sting.”

“Good.”

“So, Levi. Tell me all I need to know about you. I poured everything out to you yesterday.”

We finished our breakfast and Levi suggested, “Let’s go for a walk.” He stood holding his hand, out to me and I took hold of it.

My toes dug into the sand as we started to walk.

“There isn’t much to tell. I’ve already said Chance and I didn’t become close until he came here from Australia. And I got my previous job because of him. I’m starting out in this new career because I want to have my own bed and breakfast one
