“There’s nothing to talk about. Link and I are good. He’s out now having some daddy and son bonding time with Connor.”
“Honey, you know if you need to talk, I’m here for you and I won’t judge. I’m the last person who could.”
“I know that,” I snap harsher than intended to and she frowns.
“I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“You didn’t. It’s nothing.”
“If you say so.”
“I do. What are you eating?”
“I think I’m going to get the club sandwich and an order of sweet potato fries.”
“Gross. That isn’t real fries.” I stick out my tongue and make the motion of hanging myself.
Alexa grins at me and I look up to see our server giving me a look that says this bitch is crazy.
I order a burger and real fries.
“Have you started thinking about names for the baby?”
“Stop changing the subject. You’re avoiding talking about something I can smell it.”
I don’t want to talk about mine and Link’s problems, but I know I need to say something to get her off my back. “I have a bit of gossip for you.” She perks up. Alexa plays innocent but she’s as bad as I am. Bitch loves the rumors too. “Link told me that the Birds of Hell will be here for St. Patrick’s Day.”
“I think I’ve heard James mention them. What about them?”
“Before I was with Link, I hooked up with a nomad who used to ride with them. His name is Vince, and he’s now the National Club Prez.”
“Shit. Have you seen or talked to him since you got with Link?”
“No, but he told me that Vince called to congratulate me on Connor, but he never mentioned it until last night.”
“He’s worried.”
I shrug. “He has no reason to. I’m not going anywhere.”
“But he thinks that this Vince guy will want to see you?”
“I don’t know. He may not even be there for all I know. Not that I care.”
“Liar.”
The server slides our plates on the table.
“Am not. Now hush and eat. You’re eating for two.”
Chapter Eleven
“You about ready, babe?” Link presses his lips to my neck, and I blink and glance to his reflection in the mirror of my vanity.
“Holy shit.” I twist around and slide my palms along his smooth jaws. I turn his face side to side getting a good look at him. “I’ve never seen you without some type of fuzz or scruff on your face. You’re beautiful,” I blurt out, and he chuckles.
A tinge of pink spreads across his cheeks.
“Did I make you blush?”
“Can’t say that I’ve ever been called beautiful.”
I kiss the cross tattoo on his left temple. “Brant, honey. I know you’re an outlaw manly macho bad ass, but I have to break it to you. Tattoos on your face and all, you’re pretty.”
“Shut up and get dressed.”
“Um...I am dressed.”
He steps back as I slide my hands down his neck. His hands circle my wrists. “You’re not serious.”
“Excuse me?” What the actual fuck? Link has never ever told me not to wear something.
“Don’t you have a shirt that doesn’t I don’t know let your tits hang out?”
I gape at him and look down at my black shirt with slits across the boobs that don’t show anything more than a peek of the black lace bra I’m wearing under it. I’ve worn this to the clubhouse a million times, and he’s never cared or commented. “Does this have anything to do with who is supposed to be at the clubhouse? Are you jealous of Vince? A man I’ve not spoken to or laid eyes on in a decade or more.”
“Not jealous of shit. I know at the end of the night I’ll be the one eating your cunt and burying my dick in it when I see fit.”
“Okay so what’s the problem?”
He lets go and scrubs a palm over his face. “I don’t want that fucker staring at your tits all night wondering how hard he’ll have to work to get in there.”
“Do you think I’d do that? You’re unbelievable. After everything you have the nerve to stand here and tell me what the fuck to wear.”
“Forget it.”
I scowl at him and cross my arms over my breasts. “No way. I’ll buy ten more of this same damn shirt in every color they sell and wear it every fucking day.”
My husband pulls me into him, snaking an arm around my waist. “Don’t be a bitch.”
“Wow you’re really on a roll tonight. Keep it up and you’ll be sleeping alone tonight.”
“Don’t. The thought of another man wanting to take you from me makes me crazy.” His lips touch mine, but I don’t return the affection. He’s being ridiculous.
“No one is taking me from you, but you keep acting like an idiot and you’ll drive me away. Now get out of my way so I can finish doing what I need to so we can go.” The color of his t-shirt catches my eye. Holding his cut open I scan the front. “Kiss me for good luck,” I murmur and roll my eyes when I see the arrow that points to his dick. “You’re ridiculous.”
“All I got clean. Someone tossed all my shit in the yard if memory serves.”
“Yeah. Yeah.” I step around him to touch up my lipstick.
**
I drive since Link plans to get shit faced for the holiday and he gave up his room at the clubhouse to the guests the club is hosting for the next few days. The Birds of Hell. My pulse spikes as Banks opens the gate to let us pass. I know his motorcycle the moment I see the paint job on the gas tank. A bird flying through the flames of Hell. I do my best to pretend I don’t notice. Vince showing up doesn’t rattle me. Link’s reaction to his presence does.
