Rosa watched the horror dawn on her sister's face as she realized, as Rosa had straight away, that there was only one place Lucia could have gone. A place their mother had told them never to go because of family strife.

"Camelia!" Rosa called, giving chase as her sister bolted out the door, racing towards the border fence, the bright lights coming to life as deep night fell. "Stop! Stop," she said, finally catching hold and turning Cam to face her. "It is too late."

Camelia shook her head in denial but stopped fighting.

"We need to stay calm, Cam. You know she wouldn't just up and leave. We need to trust her and wait like she asks. Okay?"

Camelia gave a jerky nod and allowed herself to be steered back towards the house.

Rosa glanced once back at the border crossing, feeling the weight of the seal grow in her pocket, and hoped that whatever her sister's third clue had been would help answer some questions.
