“What happened?” I asked slowly. “Last I remember, we were heading to the ship, then there was a pain in my head, and…”
“An arrow,” she said, shaking her head. “A really well-aimed or damn lucky one. It hit your helmet and glanced off, cutting the side of your head open instead of sinking in, but it was so close…”
“How close?” I asked, and she shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
“Close enough we weren’t sure if you’d make it. The Legion went mad, scouring the area. They wanted to start storming the towers, until Augustus convinced Romanus that it would be against your orders. Nerin saved you, with a little help from Hellenica, but they agreed you’d be out for a while, a few days at least, since all the healing they’d done had drained your body of its last reserves…”
“God... please tell me I don’t have to drink another ‘Might’ potion…” I whispered, and she grinned at me.
“Well, there two choices there…” she said, climbing off me, and moving across to the small stand table set against the wall.
A pair of potions sat on it; one, I recognized as the potion of ‘Legionnaire’s Might’, that most foul-tasting of all concoctions, and the other was clearly a Stamina potion, one that glimmered slightly in the late afternoon sunlight.
“You see, nobody’s expecting us until tomorrow, at the earliest, so you can have the Stamina potion, and we can go find the nearest mess hall, and you can get some food, or….”
“Or?” I asked, then shook my head. “Wait. First of all, is everyone okay? Did we get away?”
“Yes, Jax. Honestly, don’t worry; we’re a day and a half out to sea, and no matter how high you go—and believe me, I went high—there’s no sign of pursuit. The ships are all here, and we’re safe, everyone’s happy and well fed. We’ll be arriving at the Sunken City tomorrow around noon, at this rate, where we can do some repairs and explore a bit, then head north, and eventually go home.”
“Thank god!” I said, leaning back and rubbing my face vigorously before Oracle coughed again, getting my attention back.
“Sorry!” I said, straightening up and looking at her again, smiling as I felt the mixture of irritation, and happiness she was filed with, and, inexplicably… nerves?
“Or, option two,” she said, lifting first one, then the other potion in her hands. “You drink the ‘Potion of Legionnaire’s Might’, then the Stamina potion. That will apparently give you all the reserves you’ll need to get your body back to normal by tomorrow, and then…”
She shifted, her clothing blurring from the simple white dress she’d been wearing to a much more revealing outfit.
This one was all straps and cups, stockings, and suspenders, and she filled it amazingly. I felt my breath catch as I stared at her beautiful figure, her long blonde hair shifting to fall artfully down one shoulder as she tilted her head at me.
“Then, once you’ve had your medicine, you get to have me…” she finished off, and I grinned at her, climbing from my bed to stand over her, naked and at attention.
I took the potion of Might first, popped the top, then downed it, swallowing hard to free my mouth of the gunk, before doing the same with the Stamina potion. Neither one held my attention half as much as Oracle did as she stepped in for a kiss.
It was a long kiss, and it went on and on, as our mouths opened, our tongues reaching greedily for each other, and our hands did the same. I lifted my right hand, drawing it round her hip and down to her perfect posterior, cupping and squeezing it gently. I felt her moan into my mouth, my left hand lifting higher, cupping her right breast, and feeling the flesh under my fingers stiffen, before her hands reached for me…
The air behind the Battleship was soon filled with exuberant sounds of love, and occasional laughter, as Jax and Oracle finally enjoyed each other’s bodies as they’d been desperate to do for so long.
