Rogue doesnβt look at her. He pins me with a stare, arching his dark brow upward in question, as if heβs asking for my permission. I donβt have a hold on him, I donβt own him, so Iβm not sure why heβs looking at me like that.
Rogue straightens, his hand moving toward the woman with flaming red hair. And I canβt stop my gaze from following the movement as he grips her ass under the micro-mini denim skirt. βMaybe later,β he whispers loud enough for me to hear. His dark eyes piercing me right through the chest. I donβt want to admit it, but I canβt deny I like him. I canβt stop these barreling emotions from taking hold of me.
I push away from the bar, hopping off the stool and racing for the door. Ignoring Larkin calling after me, I push it open and step out onto the cool, soft grass. I take the corner before leaning against the bricks, which are cold against my back.
βJealousy doesnβt look good on you, little spy,β Rogueβs voice comes from the darkness, startling me because I didnβt realize heβd followed me out. I notice the red cherry of a cigarette as it glows when he sucks on the smoke. He doesnβt come closer, giving me the space I need to focus, to breathe, to not want to punch him in the chest.
βIβm not jealous,β I tell him, turning away to face the land, which is bathed in darkness. The noise from inside filters out every time someone opens the door, and I wish I didnβt react so strongly to what he did.
βYou sure about that, sweetheart?β He takes a step toward me. Now heβs right beside me, his warmth bathing me with a spicy, smoky fragrance that has me closing my eyes. This is beyond ridiculous. Heβs not my boyfriend, and I have no right to even be angry with him. But I am.
βLeave me alone, Rogue,β I bite out before crossing my arms in an attempt to stop shaking.
He ignores my request, leans in, and lifts his hand, tangling a lock of my hair around his finger and tugging lightly.
βLook me in the eye and tell me you werenβt jealous I was touching another girl.β His voice is low, feral, and commanding, but thereβs a hint of knowing lacing each and every word.
I do look him in the eye, but I canβt tell him what he wants to hear because I would be lying. Instead, I say, βRogue.β His name is a warning on my lips, but Iβm not sure what Iβm warning him against. Or am I asking him to kiss me, or touch me? He doesnβt move, doesnβt pull away from me. With our gazes locked, it feels as if there are sparks shooting through me. βPlease.β
I drop my arms in a failed attempt at appearing calm, relaxed, because with him so close, Iβm far from it. Iβm a trembling leaf in a warm summer breeze, and itβs all his doing.
βPlease?β he taunts. βPlease what, little spy?β His voice drops an octave, sending heat coursing through me. The tender touch of his fingertips feather along my cheek, and I canβt help but squirm where Iβm standing. My hands are trembling, but I keep them hidden behind me, holding onto the wall, feeling the rough brick under my sensitive skin. Every inch of me feels like Iβm burning up, alight with want for this man. βCome on,β he says, leaning even closer to me, and thatβs when I feel his lips whispering along my flesh. βTell me all your dirty little secrets.β
My mouth falls open, but no words come out. The deep bass from inside follows us out. Thrumming beats through me as Rogueβs lips find mine. Itβs not a kiss, not fully anyway, but as the sound of 2Scratch sings βI Knowβ, the darkness along with Rogue overwhelms me as his tongue darts out to lick at my lips. Slow, sensual, tentative as he traces the curve of my top lip before trailing down to the lower one.
βTasty,β he murmurs along my mouth before I dart my own tongue out to taste the ring pierced through the corner of his smirk. The desire burning in his eyes scorches me, and Iβm almost sure heβs about to kiss me when I hear Hackβs voice.
βYo, man.β We both turn to find Snakeβs son standing at the corner of the building watching us. βI got a lead. We need to move,β he tells Rogue but doesnβt meet my gaze.
βGive me a second,β Rogue says before glancing at me. Once weβre alone, he cups my face in his hands and holds me steady so I canβt look away. βThat wonβt be the last taste I get,β he informs me before offering me a wink. βIβll see you soon.β When he turns and walks away, I want to call him back, to ask him for a proper kiss, for more of his touch, but I donβt. Instead, I watch his retreating form as he makes his way back inside, leaving me cold and confused. My feelings for him werenβt meant to be real. This was just a crush, but after our encounter, I have a feeling heβs going to do more damage than I anticipated. More damage than I could want or need. And I realize I wonβt push him away.
8 Rogue
The sound of the bikes rumble through the dark night as we make our way to the city. When I learned he was so close, like only a few hundred miles away, I had to find the bastard. Iβm ready to kill someone, to maim him and watch him die. For years, Iβve wanted revenge, and now
