"Yes, though you are free to walk through on your own if you like." There was no bite to his words, it was like he had anticipated his actions being questioned.
"Nah, we can walk in together." If there was some type of ambush, he was going to be the first one with my knife in his skull.
"Come on, we can get in this way."
I check out the area and though there are a few boxes around it doesnβt look like anyone has been here in a long while. He pushes open a door and the dust from inside is almost suffocating. I drop the doctor's arm to put a hand to my face. I need a fucking mask in here.
"Push on through it clears up the further we go."
I keep my eyes peeled searching for anything out of the ordinary. Roth leads me to a large room with a lot of industrial metal lining the walls. It was pretty bare, but at least there was a door that would close. Before I walk in, I tell Roth to go in first. He gives me a strange look, but does what I ask.
"Scream, I want to see if I can hear you." I close the door, so he is inside and I assume that he is screaming, but I don't hear anything. When I open the door again his face is a bit red, and his chest is rising up and down like he is out of breath.
"Did you hear me?"
"Nope, silent as ever out here. Good shit." I drag the unconscious man into the room and close the door behind me.
There is a large black duffle bag in the room and a small metal table.
"This is your show Wire. How do you want to do this?" Roth stands back and waits for me to tell him what I need him to do.
The room is bare, but there are large metal hoops jutting out from the ceiling every so often. I could use one of them to hold the doctor's weight. "What do you have besides this rope to hold him with? I want to tie him up there." I point to the hoop and Roth shakes his head as if he knows what I'm getting at. He goes to the bag and comes back with a roll of metal wire along with thick link chain.
"Fucking perfect." I work quickly with Roth's help to get the man attached to the hoop in the ceiling securely with his feet just touching the floor. It did seem as if the hoop was connected into a beam so I was certain that he wouldn't be able to pull it down no matter how hard he pulled away.
"Mmmph ... mmm." Just as we were about to finish with the tying him up the good doctor starts to wake up.
"Hmm? what did you say?" I ask him and pull the rope from his mouth.
"Let me go. You don't want to do this. Just let me go and nothing will happen."
I stare at him for a second trying to understand where the fuck he got the guts to threaten me. It was comical. "No can do. Tell me did my sister ask you to let her go? Did she cry for her parents when you forced her into the arms of those bastards that destroyed her life?" I snarl at him and he has the nerve to laugh.
"The only reason I even remember the girlsβ names is because some other club killed off some of our best clients, because of them. I don't even remember what they look like."
The piece of shit! I feel my hands pull back. I start to punch him over and over until my knuckles hurt and I'm out of breath. When I step back, I can see that he is bleeding and cringing in pain, but he doesn't have the look on his face that I want to seeβfear and pain. It's one thing to kill someone, but something else entirely to watch the fear in their eyes as they beg to be free of the pain. Just when they think it can't get any worse, I take it to the next level. It's been a long time since I've had to do it. I wonder if I'm out of practice.
Roth is standing off to the side his hands folded neatly in front of his body.
"You said you had some supplies for me?" My voice is calm, and my body is completely relaxed. The hum has descended on me and very soon I will be in my happy place.
"Yeah, right here." He walks over to the large duffle bag and starts to pull things out, laying the larger items on the floor. The smaller items he places on the small table. There were railroad spikes, a mallet, a hammer, knives of all shapes, graters, long syringes, body vices, even a long roll of barbed wire and gloves to use with them. I smile up at him when I see him pull that out. It feels like fucking Christmas.
"I heard you had an affinity for this." He shrugs and steps back.
I pull on the gloves and pick up the barbed wire. It's been so long, so fucking long since I've gotten to do this. I want to go back to when it was a simpler time and all I had to worry about was getting information out of someone or making them pay for their offenses.
"Please, don't do this! I'm a good man, a doctor. I save lives!" I can hear him screaming at me except the sound is muffled as if I'm underwater.
I start to unravel the barbed wire and pull it out straight so he can see its length. Moving behind him I try to get the wire around his head. He jerks around, but he isn't strong enough to pull himself down from his bindings.
"An assist?"
I think I hear Roth speaking, but I'm so into my own world
