The motherfucker didn’t tell her that as a female driver she had to steer clear of looking like a lost deer in those private parties. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have found her there that first night in that dress, but he’s feeding her locations.

“Yeah, Mexico but that was a week ago. Nothing since.” Rome frowns. Frustration fills his voice. “This is Marquis’ property. If she is here, I can’t get us into this compound without some serious firepower and damn near starting a war.”

Ox looks over Roman’s shoulder. “Yeah, I know about Marquis and his operation. His compounds are like fortresses.”

“Can you find this Danny guy though?” I ask.

“I’m trying,” Rome mutters.

“You know, I think they’ve been moving. At least they’ve moved once or twice from the looks of the pictures. I tried to see if I recognized anything, but I couldn’t make out details that would help. However, I did notice something changed about the background,” Skittles says.

“Do you still have the photos?” Rome asks.

“Yeah.” She hands over her phone.

Rome’s brows draw in as he starts to scroll through the pictures. However, the more he scrolls the more pissed off he starts to look. “Yeah, they have moved. You don’t mind if I transfer these so I can see if I can break them down and get us some answers?” he says tightly.

“No, not at all. Whatever you need.”

Roman goes back to typing on his laptop. “Just hacked Marquis and found the master race list. She’s right, Neuvo Leõn is the final destination.”

“Which means, that’s the final drop. What’s this motherfucker up to? What’s his connection to Marquis?”

“I don’t know yet, but I know if you guys can win these races and get me close enough to this motherfucker, I’ll get her out,” Roman says.

“But we’re gambling on this piece of shit’s word,” Ox says.

“It’s making me sick to my stomach, but that’s what I’ve been doing since that call.”

“We’ll win,” I say “Get me everything you can on Danny and what his connection is to Marquis. I want to know what’s really going on. And I need you to keep digging for Shawna’s location.”

“Should I call my uncle?” Ox says.

I work my jaw. Yeah, I found out sometime after hiring Ox that he’s really Blake Knight’s nephew. I didn’t know how I felt about that at first, but we settled that beef and the bond between myself and Ox became stronger.

“No,” I grunt. “He’s sure to draw attention with his way of doing things. For now, let’s get information. We still have eight races and eight more weeks to go. If we can figure out a way in before the drop, I want to know. For now, we act like we know nothing and we’re just here to help Skittles win.”

Chapter 14

Big Mistake

Skittles

For the first time in weeks, I feel like I can breathe again. I’m not alone anymore. Pit has agreed to do this my way, for now at least. Although, I can see how hard this is for him.

I sit on the couch in his suite, chewing on my lip and wringing my hands. I’m anxious to see and talk to Shawna. From the pictures her face is healing. However, I don’t know the extent of all the damage that was done.

Pit walks over and squats in front of me. I look around to see Ox and Roman are gone. I didn’t realize they’d left. Pit starts to pull my shoes from my feet.

“Everything about this is going against every fiber of my being,” I whisper. “In my soul, I want to go after him and choke the life out of him for what he’s done.”

Pit scoffs. “Baby, you’re preaching to the choir. I’m still weighing the thought of ignoring you and putting an end to this shit. If there weren’t so many moving parts and unknown pieces I would.”

I cup his face and lean in to kiss his lips. “Thanks,” I breathe against them. “I know you and I know how hard this is.”

He stands and lifts me in his arms, bridal style. I place my arms around his neck and my forehead to his cheek. “What’s hard is finally understanding the pain I’ve been watching on your face and knowing you’ve been in this all by yourself. But understand this, I’m going to fix it. Your way or mine, we’re going to get her back and I’m going to break that motherfucker all the way down.”

“The hardest part is waiting, you know? I feel like I’m always anxious. I can’t stop worrying that he’ll hit her again.”

“Something tells me he won’t. You heard Roman. Danny needs you. Whatever he’s after, you’re a key player in him getting it.”

Right as he places me on my feet, my phone pings. I take it out and its pictures of Shawna. I brush my finger over the screen, tracing her sad face.

“She’s still okay,” I whisper after examining each photo.

I look up and find Pit watching me. He crowds my space and reaches to run his finger over my lip. The warmth of his hand is more comforting than he could ever know.

“Do you want a distraction? I can be that. Just say the word,” he says.

I lift my hands to his waist. A distraction? Yeah, I want one, but guilt creeps in.

“I don’t know.”

I don’t. A part of me knows we have to go through the motions and wait this all out. I was willing to sleep with Pit when it was to keep my part in the deal we made. And honestly, my mind and body have always yearned for him no matter what is going on in my life.

“For now, you know she’s safe. We can’t do anything about it at the moment. Hell, it looks like it may be weeks. You’re going to drive yourself crazy if all you do is worry,” he says.

“You’re just trying to get in my panties,” I half tease, although I know he’s right.

“Maybe, or maybe I’m
