Arthur calls, loudly, advances, quickly intocave. “Preston? You okay, buddy?”
Preston eye burns him. “Too late, Arthur. Iproclaim self-defense, man.” Preston struts, manly, stands overGeneva, eye burns ugly face and dead body. He kneels, swiftly, removes box from hand, stands, swiftly, walks to hold, re-buriesbox, prays, silently over Thurston’s skeleton hand.
“Damn, I’m not filling out the FBI paperwork,Preston.” Arthur moans, loudly.
8:16 pm. Monday. Federal Building,Birmingham. Alabama. 89*F. Sunny.
Preston wraps steel biceps, protectivelyaround Pamela, educates, truthfully, sitting together in CyberCrimes office. “Geneva was double agent. Thurston was triple agentworking for himself.”
“How ya survive, Preston?” Arthur inquires, curiously.
Preston explains. “Geneva’s a lefty holdingand firing the gun, weakly being only a sorry-assed trainedprogrammer, rather than real US bad ass spy…like us.” Arthurchuckles, lightly. Preston continues. “Colt cowboy holds sixrounds. She shot 2 each in Dr. Kirby and receptionist…”
“Four.” Arthur counts, loudly, marks onnotepad.
Preston informs. “Then, she switched fullyloaded second Colt to her left strong hand, murdering… poor Ashleyand Stockton with lucky single shots, then Larry with twobullets.”
“Four plus four is eight, Preston.” Arthurfrowns, ugly, marks data on notepad.
“You forget Geneva wounded the wall.” Prestonboasts, bossy, grins, toothy.
“That bullet fired, intended and missed atyou, bro.” Arthur reminds, curtly.
“Of course! Two years ago, Geneva returnedsingle fire at Thurston in Chalk Cave, missing, of course.” Prestoninforms, historically.
Arthur reviews hand written notes, counts,double-counts bullets, silently, talks, confusingly. “Total adds to10 bullets. Did she fire twice at Thurston that day?”
Preston smirks, lightly, tattles, lastly.“Shot a rat in cave when Dewy and I chased after her successfulescape.”
Arthur shakes, sideways bald skull, reprimands, brotherly. “You shouldn’t keep evidence from me, bro. Iget befuddled and mad.”
“When Geneva fired her last bullet with lousyaim at me, her Colt was empty.” Preston holds, vertically hand inair. “And those two old Colts were family heirlooms. Her realname’s Jennifer Lasseter, not Lassater, spelled L.A.S.S.E.T.E.R.from Geneva, Alabama where her family owns an antique store, notshooting gallery for redneck cowboys.” Arthur fist-bumps Preston’sextended hand.
“How’da ya find out, Preston?” Lacy inquires, sweetly, drinks, nosily coke.
Preston peaks, tenderly her cheekbone, credits, wisely. “Research after Pamela hinted that Geneva wasn’treally…Geneva.”
Arthur reports, fully. “CIA/FBI IT hackershad uncovered secret phone wirings on her encounters with overseastransfers of monies from personal accounts & access multipletimes into CIA web site through non-operated channels along withinformation exchange with non-CIA agents.”
Preston addresses, swiftly. “Geneva was muchmore than she seems…had seemed…alarming both CIA/FBI when shedisappeared out of thin air, yesterday along with her car, someclothes and cash from personal bank accounts after they fucked herpersonal PC.”
Arthur tattles, purposefully. “The mastermindwas Paul, our boss and Geneva’s pal, helped cover her identity andjob, here. They both were searching for BOA.”
“Me.” Preston growls, hardy. “Paul’s gone…bythe way. I’m in charge.”
“Conflict of interest, bro.” Arthurlegalizes, carefully, frowns, ugly.
Preston advices, purposefully. “Ourdepartment will combine Cyber Crimes cowboys and kittens…”
Arthur purrs in Ilenn’s ear, playfully.“Meow.” She giggles, sweetly.
Preston chuckles, lightly, continues.“Replacing our…friends. And we’re getting new management and…we’regetting married.”
Arthur stands, swiftly, extends hand.“Congrats, buddy!”
Lacy & Llenn both leap, rapidly fromchairs, hug, tightly Pamela. Ilenn offers, sweetly. “Pamela, I’m sohappy for both you and Preston.”
Pamela grins, toothy, offers. “Thanks,Ilenn.”
“What about the diamonds, Preston?” Lacyfrowns, funny, asks, curiously.
Preston scratches finger pads on dustedwhiskers, winks, flirtatiously at Pamela. “Diamonds, yeah. I gotthe diamonds waiting solid 366 days for someone to claim theillegal evidence… which they didn’t… then shared my treasure withArthur, pals for life.” Preston fists-bumps Arthur, hardy.
The end….maybe!
