Oba, who was at the front of the ranks, smiled.
โTheyโre our men!โ he exclaimed. โItโs a miracle!โ
A boisterous cheer emanated from the crowd.
โSo many of them. Can this be true, or do my eyes deceive me?โ one fellow said.
Glum faces now appeared happy. All fear and trepidation vanished, and many an immortal ran madly and excitedly toward each other.
In his overzealousness, one would have knocked Oba over had it not been for a friend who held him before he hit the ground.
They threw themselves into each otherโs arms, wrapped themselves around each other, lifted others off their feet, all in uproarious jubilation over what they previously believed was improbable.
How in heavens name could they have overcome so terrifying an army, or did they ever face Nyeusiโs men? The questions in their heads were endless.
โCan you believe your eyes, my brothers?โ Oba asked.
โI can,โ the fellow nearest him replied.
โHow in the name of God?โ a fellow next to Oluso asked.
โBecause we are more manly than they are,โ he replied, and a boisterous roar came from the crowd.
โRight you are!โ someone shouted.
โHooray!โ the crowd roared.
โWe are all ears,โ another fellow who stayed back among the last line of defense interjected. โOnward home we go, then do tell us all,โ he added, and those words too were met with great cheer.
Those who stayed back hoisted a number of the victorious into the air to shouts of hooray every time a fellow was caught and flung upward.
Others got hold of the triumphant ones and carried them aloft or on their shoulders toward their home.
โAll thatโs missing now to make this the perfect occasion is a good strong drink,โ Feignmann remarked.
โAgreed,โ Pseudomann added.
โGod, do I miss being able to drink. Drink and be able to hold it down, enjoy what I drank,โ Feignmann said.
โWe all do,โ Zaeim said, โbut donโt let it dampen the mood. Be grateful we are still alive.โ
โI am,โ Feignmann said. โItโs so good to be alive.โ
The minute they arrived home, those who comprised what was to be their last line of defense reminded their warrior peers to spare no detail about their adventures.
โTell us everything,โ Mjumbe said. โI mean everything,โ he added, and the men laughed.
โSure,โ Feignmann said. โWant to know more about the Shitani, eh?โ he added, and the men laughed heartily at that appellation. โWe will tell all.โ
โLittle did we know we had more to fear from mice than they who purport to be men,โ Pseudomann added, and his remark was met with a boisterous cheer.
Afterword
BOOK ONE of the series (cover shown below), which features the continuation of the story, or all eighteen chapters, is also available as a free download in exchange for an honest review to those who subscribe to my email list or are already on it. Please click here to contact me if youโre interested in receiving a copy.
THE SECOND PART OF the story goes into what became of Daniel, Ali, Penal, Sodom, and Asfar, the ones who entered the lair, the cave featured on this bookโs cover.
The lair is an alternate, more frightful entry to the underworld where the antagonist Nyeusi, and the Shetani, have a stronghold.
Next In The Series
YOUโVE REACHED THE end of Book One. The next book in the series is The Jeniyan. It focuses on what became of Daniel, Mwema, and all those who freed themselves from the Shetani forces inside of the mountain.
Description
The Shetani, a man hating tribe within the underworld, an ancient realm replete with prehistoric animals and medieval technology, aims to annihilate an old rival called the Jeniyan. The Shetaniโs wrath is evoked after they learn the Jeniyan allowed a body of men seeking refuge a stay within their territory, but little did the men know why the Jeniyan received them with open arms.
Little does the Jeiniyan know the men are wanted for attempting to exterminate the Shetaniโs leader, the dark lord Nyeusi, but also for being in possession of a coveted magical jewel. That jewel is the Necropolis.
