the best I’ve ever seen. In fact, you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever been with.”

She purses her lips with happiness. “If you keep saying things like that, I might keep you.”

“I will because I definitely want to be around you for the long haul.”

She clears her throat, gazing at me with an intensity that makes my heart go a little haywire. Repositioning the ice pack slightly, she begins, “So, earlier…things got quite intense. You said you loved me. Was that a heat-of-the-moment thing or …” She trails off.

Lifting my hand up, I twirl a piece of hair that hangs in front of her face. “It was definitely a heat-of-the-moment thing, and I probably shouldn’t have said it.”

Immediately, she tenses up, the joy disappearing.

“But,” I’m quick to add, “I wasn’t lying. I’ve fallen for you. I’m fucking crazy about you.”

Her body begins to relax again.

“I know it’s way too soon for the L-word. It just slipped out, but I know one thing for sure—I meant it. And do you know how I know?”

She shakes her head, remaining silent.

“Because you’re the first woman I’ve ever said it to.”

Ally lets out a content sigh. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned about you, it’s that you don’t lie…and I love that about you. It’s so refreshing…and it’s just one of the reasons I’m falling for you. I’m not quite sure when it happened, but I’ve caught the Jensen lovebug.”

We both chuckle at that analogy.

Gripping her by the waist, I pull her onto my lap until she’s straddling my thighs, her hand still holding the ice pack in place. “My brothers are going to start crapping themselves, as they’ll likely be next.”

“It might not be a bad thing,” she offers.

I shake my head. “They won’t think that, but if it’s happened to me, it will definitely happen to them. It’s just a matter of time.”

“So, now that you have me…what’s next with us?”

“Do I have you?” I ask, a huge smile on my face.

“Well, I’m straddling you, naked, so…”

I take a purposeful gaze at her very naked body. “Yes, you are.”

“Can you please be serious for one minute?”

“Sorry, go on.” I smirk, trying to pull in my features.

“Where do we go next?”

“I know tonight has been a lot…but we can go at whatever speed you want. I don’t want to pressure you, especially with everything you’re going through right now.”

“Well, I definitely like the sex…so I want that to continue.” She throws me a grin.

“I already like where this is going.”

“And I like this…talking, telling you about my fears. I trust you, and I’ve never felt that before. I am falling for you—there is no denying it—but I’m not ready to tell anyone yet, especially Remi and Nate. I don’t want to steal the limelight from their happiness right now. So, let’s just be the way we always have been with them. At least until after the wedding.”

“Do you mean, hate each other’s guts?”

“Yeah, but we’ll just be pretending this time.”

I bring my hands up to her back and gently scratch her skin, loving the feel of goose bumps pebbling against my palms.

“I’m definitely okay with the enemies-to-lovers thing, as I’ve heard make-up sex is the best kind of sex to have.”

“You’ve only heard? You’ve never had make-up sex before?” Ally asks incredulously.

“Well, the other women always liked me, so no.”

She just rolls those pretty eyes at me.

“Fuck, I love it when you do that,” I tell her, groaning.

She squints with confusion. “You love what?”

“You rolling your eyes.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, it’s one of my favorite things about you. You hated me from the get-go, so it was only natural I’d fall in love with your feistiness.”

She bites back a smile, her cheeks flushing red. “I love that you love that about me. It tells me you can put up with my moody ways, and other than my dad, you’re the only other person who can handle me.”

“We’re a match made in heaven, right?” I lean over and press a kiss to her lips, muting her next words.

We make out for a moment, and slowly, I feel her melt against me, relaxing. Pulling away a few seconds later, I stroke her cheek with my thumb.

“Are you feeling a little better after your nightmare?”

She nods. “Yeah, a little, but I won’t be able to sleep now. I never can. He just gets into my head.”

“I know this won’t be much comfort to you, but he’s gone now, and he’ll never be able to hurt you or Remi ever again.”

“Physically not, but he still continues to hurt me.”

A thought pops into my head, and instead of discarding it, I decide to be brutally honest with her.

“I was the one who took that motherfucker down. I’d never admit this to my boss, but shooting him was the most satisfying kill I’ve ever had. And you know what? I would do it again in a heartbeat. Does that make me evil?”

Immediately, she shakes her head while her slender hands come to rest in my hair, brushing through the strands. “No, it makes you a hero. Remi’s hero…your brother’s hero, but mostly…my hero. I know I said I’m scared to be with you, but I’m also scared not to be with you. Yeah, you might get hurt on duty, but you could also get run over by a bus tomorrow.”

My brows furrow with a frown. “Morbid much?”

She rolls her eyes, and I just smile, which she reciprocates. “I don’t mean to be, but it’s the way of life. We have no idea what tomorrow will bring…but what I’m trying to say is, I don’t want to dictate my life by being scared anymore. I want to jump in the deep end with you. I want to risk it all. I want to be with you even though you frustrate me unlike anybody else I’ve ever been with.”

I let out a roar of laughter. “What, even more than Freddie?”

Instead of the eye roll I expect from her, she just throws me a sharp
