out some pictures and throws them over the desk. The lifeless face of Enzo Romano stares back at me. “Word on the street is that Cobra ordered the hit on Enzo. We don’t think for one minute he wanted him out the way. What you said the other day makes sense. If Ricardo gets rid of Vinn too, then he’ll be the next in line to take over, if he was to marry Gia. He’ll be huge in Italy and here with both family names. We think he’ll marry Gia and then put the hit out on Vinn. With him gone, we’ll lose our contacts and then it’ll be too late because Cobra will step in with the manpower.”

I let out a breath. “We’re fucked if that happens,” I say and he nods in agreement.

“So we hide Gia until Vinn’s got what he needs and then we wipe them all out?”

Riggs shakes his head. “I don’t think Vinn’s thinking entirely straight. He talked about letting the wedding happen,” he says cautiously.

I stand, my chair falling back with a thud. “No,” I say firmly.

“If Vinn defeats him, it’ll make him more powerful. He’ll earn respect from Italian families,” says Riggs. “But then you know how it works, don’t you, being a Rossi and all.” He watches me for my reaction, but I pull my poker face on and stare right back. “You failed to tell me that you were a prince to one of the largest Italian organisations.”

“I’m not,” I say firmly. “I walked away from that and came here to start again. Did you tell Vinn?”

“Not yet, but you know I have to,” says Riggs.

I nod. “Let me tell him. That way, I can tell him I’m claiming Gia.”

Riggs’ eyes widen. “Good luck with that, brother.”

I spend some time with Hannah and Molly. It’s a moment of normalcy, away from the stress and craziness.

When I get back to the apartment, Blade is nowhere to be seen. I march into the bedroom and find him relaxed in the chair opposite Gia, who’s smiling and flirting her ass off with my shirt riding up enough for him to have full view of her long, tanned legs. I know the look in her eyes cos I’ve seen it before when she used to flirt with him. I glare back and forth between them. Blade jumps up out the chair. “We were just talking,” he says quickly.

“About sexual encounters,” purrs Gia.

“About sexual disasters,” corrects Blade, glaring at her.

“Get out,” I mutter, my voice low and menacing.

“I’d love to, honey, if you’d just undo the cuffs,” says Gia, narrowing her eyes at me.

Blade doesn’t need telling twice, he practically dives out the room, leaving me alone with Gia. “I told you, princess,” I growl, using the nickname she hates most. “I don’t play games.”

“Me either,” she says with a shrug. “I’d fuck Blade’s brains out. That ain’t a game.”

I move so fast towards her that she can’t disguise the panicked look in her eyes. My hand tangles in her hair and I tug her head back so we’re eye to eye. “Me or him,” I whisper, my lips a breath from hers. “You got one chance to make the right choice. You say his name and I’m out of here for good.”

We remain silent for a few seconds. “You,” she eventually whispers.

“No more flirting with Blade. You’ll get him killed.” I stomp from the room, slamming the door behind me.

I take a cold shower, then I make chicken stir fry. I take it into her and she pushes herself up. Her eyes are red like she’s been crying, but I make no move to comfort her. I’m pissed and she needs to learn that I don’t work like other men. I don’t play games and I don’t tolerate them. I place a tray on her knee and a bowl of stir-fry, then I head for the door. “Wait,” she mumbles and I stop with my hand resting against the wooden frame. “Can’t you stay a while?”

I continue out the room, ignoring her request, and I eat my dinner in front of the television alone, despite wanting to be with her.

It’s getting dark. I put a call into Riggs and ask him to send someone over to keep Gia company. She must be lonely in the room and I’m still too pissed to sit with her. Half an hour later, Anna and Eva arrive.

GIA

It’s so nice to see the girls that I burst into tears when they enter the bedroom. Anna immediately wraps me in a hug and Eva takes my hand. “Sorry,” I sniffle. “It’s just so nice to see some friendly faces.” Blu lingers in the doorway for a second looking guilty before disappearing again.

“What the hell’s going on?” whispers Anna.

“Apparently, I’m not trusted to stay here without being chained to the damn bed,” I mutter.

“Why have you got to stay here?” asks Eva.

“I’m not sure. Vinn’s orders.”

“Maybe Leia can talk to him?” suggests Eva. “And find out what the hell’s going on.”

“Is that a ring?” gasps Anna, moving around the bed to examine my ring finger.

“Did Ric get you that?” asks Eva excitedly.

I shake my head. “Blu.”

Both women stare open-mouthed. “What the fuck have we been missing?” asks Anna.

I fill them in on what I know and then I tell them the bits I’m guessing but don’t actually know for sure, like Ricardo upsetting Vinn in some way. “If no one knows about this apartment, at least you’re safe,” says Eva.

“Yeah, but cuffing her to the bed is a little extreme,” says Anna.

Eva nods. “Umm, but maybe they’ve learnt from our past mistakes,” she suggests. “If they’d have chained us to something, we’d never have put ourselves in danger.”

It brings a smile to my face and I begin to laugh, something I’ve not done much of lately.

“The trouble is,” I admit. “I like being here with him and I wouldn’t run, even if he removed the cuff. I want to get
