down hard.

“Relax, dear. I’m almost done.” The doctor put his hand on my belly and I pushed out a big breath until he finished. Suddenly, everything was quiet.

They know.

“This one . . . is not untouched.” The auctioneer sounded stunned and flat. “How would you like to proceed?”

Men were yelling in the background and I distinctly heard Father Lombardi’s voice among them.

I had no idea.

She’s a worthless slut.

This was not my intention.

She’s dead.

There was a man’s voice that rose above the others. “Gentlemen, I’d like to start the bidding at $100,000, if you have no objections.”

I know that voice.

The Bishop is buying me to kill me.

“She’s already broken. I want her for that reason. Never in the history of Rosethorne have we had a scandal like this. If anyone wants to try to outbid me, I welcome it.”

The presence of a body near my head and the sound of slacks as it came closer to me made my heart race. I smelled the roses and the cigar before I felt his hand on the side of my head and him pulling the blindfold down.

“Have you been thinking, sister? Do you have an idea what I’ll be doing to you?”

I started to cry and the incredibly handsome man—who didn’t look like any clergyman I’d ever seen—smiled. Then a long finger reached to my cheek, scooped up a tear, and went to his mouth to be sucked off.

“Please . . . do cry. You’ll find I have a penchant for tears.”

The man pulled me up and off the table as the auctioneer said, “Going once . . . going twice . . . three times. Sold! To Captain Jordan Bishop. Congratulations, your Excellency.”

Captain? Is he in the military too?

He’s going to kill me with his extreme tastes.

“Come, pet . . . let’s continue watching the rest. You are an unexpected treat and I can’t wait to taste you while you’re mine.”

That sounds temporary. Who next? Death?

The Bishop stood in back and held me tightly against him as we watched the other women coming for inspection and sale. One of them was a friend of mine that went for $30,000, and there were others who went for less or more.

“Oh, pet . . . you do need to watch this. You’ll find this particularly interesting.” He was holding me closer and growling down to me quietly. “I know this gentleman well, and he’s going to take her right here in front of everyone. He loves the spectacle.”

The girl on the table made it through inspection and the man who bought her unzipped his pants, pushed both of the girl’s legs back and looked long and hard at his purchase. Then he positioned his cock at her opening. Disgusting.

Just before he thrust in The Bishop whispered, “Let me know if this brings back any memories . . .” The buyer slammed in hard, the girl screamed, and then he started to fuck her right there in front of the crowd. “You’ll have to tell me about the time your beautiful flower was plucked, but not now. We have to be going.”

Like I’d been doing with someone all day, I walked. I could finally see my surroundings and they were nothing short of opulent. He has not taken a vow of poverty. If the whole day hadn’t been so nauseating, I would’ve felt warm and cozy. The walls were a beautiful wood, the floor a brown granite, and when there was carpet, it was in multiple shades of burgundy and gold. There were columns around the large foyer and the lighting was subdued.

For a tomb, it’s not so bad.

“Pet . . . I’m going to leave you in your room for safekeeping until the auction’s over. There are some financial matters that must be tended to.”

The bishop guy opened the door to what must’ve been the waiting room and pushed me across the threshold.

“I’m sorry to have to replace the blindfold. It’s only until I return.” He pulled the material up from my neck and covered my eyes. “I’ll be back with you shortly . . . we have some very important business to take care of, don’t we, pet? You have a story to tell me about your first encounter, and then you can compare it to your first with me.”

That was all he said before closing the door and walking away to let me wait. Think. Pray.

Make it quick.

God Was Never on Your Side

The house phone rang and grabbed me by the balls. We’d been waitin’ for that call and I was beginnin’ to think the fuckin’ thing was broken. I didn’t like bein’ in unknown territory or lettin’ someone else take the lead. As nice as Bish was, he was still the ruler of his realm. I needed to get back to mine.

“Yo. This is Crucifix . . .” I answered the phone and was sure The Bishop could hear the short fuse in my tone. “Yeah, I’m sure Blitz knows where to go . . . uh-huh. Yep. FOCUS and me . . . okay, he can show me the way. Yeah . . . yeah . . . Casket and Hazard, gotcha . . . back to the clubhouse in the City . . . you just tell me how to get to that basement.”

It was go time and I could almost smell the bloodshed in the air. Fi was gonna be safe and I could do what needed to be done.

“Okay, you two”—I pointed to Casket and Hazard—“get to gettin’ her the fuck outta here. Don’t make it any harder on her than it already has been. I’m sure she’s scared enough and the ride into the City will give her time to think on it.”

I wondered
