This guilt is going to eat her alive.
โMya, she never left a message. You had no way of knowing.โ
She wipes at her tears, and I hold her closer. โHe has to find her. Sheโs afraid. I heard the terror in her voice. Sheโs in trouble, Jase.โ
โItโs okay. Finn will find her.โ I turn her face to look at me and kiss her softly. โI love you. He loves you. And heโll find her.โ
She nods her head, holding back her tears as she rests it on my shoulder.
It may be a longshot, but one thing is for sure . . .
Finn doesnโt give up easily.
The End
Note from the Author
I really hope you enjoyed Jase and Myaโs story. I absolutely love them and although this story was different for me I knew I wanted to tell it. Myaโs story is tragic, and it happens all too often. I wanted this series to be about the forgotten kids. The ones who have to raise themselves and sometimes their siblings too.
As a mother, itโs hard for me to stomach that there are kids who arenโt taken care of and cherished. If I think about it too often, it cripples me. I want all kids to be treated as if they are precious because they are. I want everyone to feel safe in their homes as well as out in the world. I believe it starts with individuals, with one act of kindness.
And I want people to have hope. Iโll never stop believing there is good in this world. I know all about the bad but want the good to win. Iโll never stop that fight, and I want to encourage everyone else to do the same.
Donโt give up. Always fight for whatโs right. Nothing is hopeless. I truly believe we can do better. Be kind and spread the kindness.
Thank you so much to all of my friends and family who are the good in my life, who donโt let me give up. Thank you to Harper and Lyla for lighting a fire in me when I was in my mid-twenties, for making me a mom hell-bent on making sure you grow up in a better world.
Thank you to my husband, who grounds me when I feel like I canโt take the bad, who kisses my forehead and tells me Iโm amazing and to โchill out.โ I love you forever and always.
Thank you, Jeanna, for your love and support. Youโre way stronger than you think, and you deserve only good things. Thank you, Emma, for always being there to listen when Iโm having a terrible day. Ari, thank you for your gross/amazing pep talks and keeping me going when I feel like Iโm not good enough. Thank you, Elle, for being you, for being passionate about the world becoming better even when you feel hopeless. I swear to you, youโre making a difference. Every bit of good matters. Donโt let hate and bad win.
Thank you to Dena for putting up with me. Seriously. Thank you for being my editor and friend. Elizabeth and Veronique, thank you so much for making my books pretty.
Thank you to the Novelties for your fierce support and loyalty. Man, I love you all so much!
Finally, to my parents, thank you. Itโs hard to put into words how grateful I am for you. You always kept going. Even when things seemed tragic and impossibly difficult, you showed me how to rise. You told me I could soar. I love you both with all my heart.
Thank you all for reading! Donโt lose hope!
