the outskirts of the claimed territory.

“When the king recruited me, I did three things. First, I made sure your mother found a secluded place to give birth to you and live in peace for a while. Second, I made a deal with Isabel and the rest, stating that their services would only be welcomed until I returned. That means in the next few days, they will be returning to their families.

“The last thing I did was get the king to make and sign that badge you’re wearing. The badge is a little special, but only for the knights of the kingdom. You can also go to the capital and use that badge to get an audience with the king, but don’t ever do that unless it’s a life or death situation. It can only be used once.”

John weaved the story of the Adventurers’ Guild as well as the Rogue, Sword, Anti-assassin, and Death sects by calling them different families within the kingdom.

What he told her was mostly true, but on a smaller scale. The unedited version of the story would be told once she turned twenty-one, to show her how dangerous the universe really was.

Chapter 3: Perspective

Kelly took the golden eagle badge off of her shirt and turned it around to look at the signature. After a few minutes of silence, she gave a small nod. “I want to learn how to fight. Mom has been teaching me how to read and write, but I’ve learned it all, so I’ve been bored recently.”

Sarah smiled. “I’ve only taught you one of the languages used in this world. There’s a few more.”

She wanted to teach Kelly all the languages she knew but didn’t quite know how to explain why two kingdoms would use more than twenty different languages.

John had guessed what was going through Sarah’s mind and tried to explain. “Both kingdoms are a combination of small countries which have their own language, culture, and customs.

“They are in the process of simplifying it to a single, common language, but if you ever decide to travel when you’re older, you might need to know all of them to avoid trouble.”

“I also want you to be immune to the most common poisons found in this world. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is to expose you to the poisons. This way your body will produce antitoxins against the harmful substances.”

Kelly stared at Sarah with her tiny brow arched with uncertainty.

“Your mother is a doctor and knows all about the poisons. We’ve even used this method on ourselves to become immune to the poisons as well—you’re not an experiment.”

John stood up and stretched a little before motioning her to follow him. “Come with me. We’ll start your training with martial arts while your mother gathers the necessary plants. When we’re done training, you can start learning one of the new languages for a while.”

John walked out of the house and waited for Kelly. It took less than a minute for her to trot through the door and stand by his side.

“Don’t we need some type of equipment to train?” Kelly asked, looking around the area.

“Maybe for more advanced martial arts,” John answered.

John knelt down and picked Kelly up before placing her on his shoulders.

“We’re going into the jungle for a while and your little legs won’t let you run fast enough, so hold on tight,” John advised, walking towards the jungle.

After he felt Kelly wrap her arms around his forehead, he started running.

“AHHH!”

He didn’t use any kind of Life Power and only used a small amount of strength in his legs, but he still caused Kelly to scream for the first minute.

When they were half a mile in, he stopped running. There was a small area about forty feet in diameter in front of him that had only a single, small tree in the middle. The grass was short, and there were no bushes or vines at all in that area.

Perfect. John carefully put Kelly down on the ground.

“Before I show you anything, I have a question for you. What do you think is the most important thing to have while fighting?”

Kelly lowered her head, deep in thought. “Courage?” she indecisively responded.

John shook his head. “While that helps in a lot of cases, it isn’t the most critical component for winning a fight. The most important thing is composure, followed by footwork.

“Without composure, you’ll panic and make mistakes, making your training useless. Keeping your composure will allow you to calmly focus on the essentials: attacking, defending, and even escaping. Footwork is essential for all of these. Without it, you can’t put your weight into an attack, you’ll lose balance after blocking, and you’ll trip while fleeing.

“For the first few days, we’re going to focus on your stances. You’ll need proper blocking techniques before you learn to fight.”

As John moved his hands and legs, he looked at Kelly. “Copy my movements. This is a basic stance that allows you to switch from attack to defence easily.”

Kelly copied the few stances John showed her and he taught her how to twist her ankles to properly accommodate the turns that her body would make when attacking and defending.

It took an hour for her to be comfortable with all the different motions, and during that time, John showed her a few kicking and punching moves to go along with the footwork she practiced. When that was done, he decided to switch things up.

“The main parts of the body we attack with are the hands, feet, knees, elbows, and head; however, they’re not the only things.”

He went to stand next to the small tree in the middle of the area and positioned himself into a wide stance. After steadying himself, John swung his hips into the tree but stopped just before his hip touched the tree. He couldn’t control his strength yet and the sight of a tree flying into the air might have given Kelly a heart attack.

John turned his head to
