could use against him at this short notice, not without digging.”

“What about your mother?” Adan asks. “Clearly he’s got somethin’ goin’ for her otherwise he wouldn’t keep her around.”

I shake my head. “No, I think if it came down to it he would throw her like a bag of trash. He cares more about himself than anything.”

We all think on it for a minute.

“Only one other thing we can do then,” Adan says, his voice rough. “We sign everything she owns away, to someone he cannot find or learn about. We tie it up in a way he can’t force her hand to sign it over, even if he got hold of her, it wouldn’t matter because she has no control over it.”

“Not a bad idea.” Riggs nods, then his eyes go to me. “Only problem is, you have to be fully on board. We’re not touchin’ anything of yours without your permission.”

“Honestly, I don’t care about the money. I really don’t. I am going to buy a little place with it, but, otherwise, I don’t want it. The only problem is, his family home is still in my name and it hasn’t sold, even if the money goes he might go after that.”

“Then we give it to him.” Riggs shrugs. “We sign the rest over to a place he can’t touch, and we let him have the home. If he doesn’t go away, then we go to plan B.”

“What’s plan B?” I ask.

Riggs grins. “You don’t wanna know, honey.”

I bite my lip and look to Adan, who winks at me.

Bikers.

Sexy things they are.

WE AVOID DEVIN FOR the next three days, even though he threatened to show up if I didn’t make up my mind in twenty-four hours. The only reason he hasn’t gotten close to me, is because I’ve had two bikers with me at all times, and I’m certain he’s watching and is probably super pissed by now.

We needed a few days for Riggs to sort out where the money was going to go, to a place that Devin couldn’t force me to sign it over. Instead, I signed it over myself so it no longer sits in my name. I did up a contract with Riggs, though, to state that it’s still mine and, eventually, it’ll come back to me in ways that’ll healthily impact my life. Such as needing to buy a car. I’m not bothered, I honestly couldn’t care if I never saw a cent of it.

I purchased my little house and the rest of it was “tied” up into the club somehow. I didn’t bother asking how, I don’t want to know, so long as it no longer belongs to me. Once that was done, then Riggs organized a meeting with Devin. A meeting where we’ll share the great news that I’m sure will make him very, very happy.

The meeting is held at the club and Riggs has allowed me to be there after I insisted that if I wasn’t there, I’d probably stand outside the window, staring in like a weirdo, until he let me be there. Adan agreed I was likely to do this, so they let me in. I have been instructed not to say a damned word, which is going to be really, really tough, but I agree.

When Devin arrives, he does so alone. I’m surprised Mom isn’t with him, but I also have a suspicion that when he gets the money, he’s probably going to do a runner so he’s keeping her at arm’s length. Whatever their twisted little relationship is about, Devin cares more about this than he does that.

His eyes swing to me as he walks in and sits down, and he gives me a smirk that I have no doubt will be knocked right off his face when he hears the good news. Afterall, he thinks there’s nothing we can do that’ll take away what he believes is his. He thinks he’s got it all in the bag and that’s the end of it.

He’s about to be mistaken.

“Good to see you’ve finally come to your senses,” he says, eyes on me. “I must warn you, though. If I’m not out of here in fifteen minutes, your mother has been instructed to call the police, so whatever funny business you have planned, you would want to reconsider it.”

I just smile at him.

It’s very clear that throws him off.

Riggs sits down at the head of the table and begins speaking. “You’re here because you threatened someone we care about. It’s not somethin’ we take lightly. We know exactly what you had planned for her, and it was our job to make sure that didn’t come about.”

Devin looks to Riggs. “I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”

Oh, playing dumb. Good one, Devin.

“Oh, but you do know what I’m talkin’ about.” Riggs grins. “The plan is basic, even for your standards.”

Devin’s face goes red and he glares at Riggs. “What have you called me here for if not to give me what’s mine?”

“We’ve called you here because this is goin’ to end, right here, right now. You will leave town and you will leave Ramona alone. You don’t, you get fuck all.”

“I’m not leaving without the money she owes me. You think I’m going to let a bunch of bikers drive me out of town? You’re wrong. You so much as touch me, and you’ll be found out. You’ll never get away with it. I’m not leaving until she gives me my money, no matter how I have to get it.”

Riggs grins.

It terrifies even me.

“That’s the thing,” he goes on, “she has no money.”

“What the fuck do you mean she has no money?” Devin growls. “She’s got millions of it.”

“Yeah, well, she did have millions of it. That was until her shit nosed step-brother started threatenin’ her and so we made sure that money found a new home.”

Devin pales a little.

It’s wonderful to see.

Really wonderful.

“You see, we weren’t goin’ to let you have any way to get what
