We all chuckled.
I loved our weekly lunch. Now that Cassy had two kids, and Quinn, Lila, and Eves were all married and were spread out between Springhaven, Black Stone, and Rocktown, we had to make time to see each other.
So every Friday at 2 p.m., without fail, we got together to catch up.
I took a sip of my coffee. “Also, Eves and Cassy have been training several new horses and things are progressing nicely.”
“Yup,” Eves said to Addy. “Two knew foals as well.” Her smile was wide, then her gaze slid to me and they slightly narrowed. She tilted her head to the side.
“What? Why are you looking at me like that?” I said, an uneasy feeling settling in my belly.
Eves quickly looked away. “Like what? What are you talking about?”
Addy turned to me then, her eagle eyes moving over me as well. “Hmm, is it just me, or does Trix have the look of someone who’s been getting it, and getting it good?”
I choked on my coffee, nearly spitting it across the table. Everyone turned to me then, and I became acutely aware of my current, panty-less state, and that Quinn was sitting right across from me. I’d completely forgotten about lunch with the girls until Lila texted to remind me. I sure as hell wouldn’t be sitting here bare-assed if I’d remembered this morning.
I forced a laugh. “I wish, but sadly the only getting it good I’m getting, is with my beloved vibrator, Clark. He’s my new battery-powered boyfriend, and I can confirm, that yes, he has been treating me very well.”
They all busted out into cackles.
“Okay, where do I get a Clark of my own?” Addy asked. Everyone laughed again and Addy grinned. “I’m not joking, text me the link, I need an upgrade.”
“I wouldn’t mind an upgrade,” Lila said with a smirk.
“You have a horny biker husband, what do you need with a Clark?” Addy said.
Lila sipped her tea, a wicked glint in her eyes. “I think you just answered your own question. Who else wants the link?”
More laugher erupted and everyone’s hands shot up. Good thing I actually did have a new battery-powered boyfriend. I just hadn’t used it as much lately.
“Done,” I said. “But you can’t call yours Clark, that’d just be weird.”
“I’ve always called mine Fergus,” Quinn said. “Before Bull, I’d fantasize about a hulking Scott in a kilt. Never failed.”
We all burst out laughing again.
The door opened—
And Mase walked in.
I don’t know why, but my face heated instantly.
Maybe because he knows you’re sitting there with no undies on.
His gaze sliced to me, then moved around the table, landing on his sister. An easy smile curled his lips, the one that never failed to make my heart race—though everything Mase did made my stupid heart race—and he headed our way.
“Hey, big brother,” Quinn said as he leaned in and dropped a kiss to the top of her head.
“Brat.” His gaze slid around the table again, snagging on mine a second longer this time. “Everyone.”
“How’s the new job?” Eves asked him.
“Yeah, good. Can’t complain.”
“A few minutes earlier and you would’ve heard all about Trixie’s new boyfriend,” Addy said, smirking.
His brow arched. “Oh?”
“Clark,” Lila said. “By all accounts, he’s a great guy.”
“And he definitely knows how to show a girl a good time,” Eves added.
I flushed darker as they all cracked up again. Mase smiled, but there was no missing it was a little strained, and when his eyes hit mine again, they were full of questions.
“Maybe I’ll get to meet him sometime?” he said, obviously not sure what else to say.
The whole table broke out in laughter again, and Quinn patted my arm. “Oh no, I don’t think so. He’s kept pretty busy.” Her grin was so wide, she looked like she was about to rupture something.
“Okay, well, I’m just gonna grab a coffee before I head out on patrol…”
Quinn gave him a nudge. “Sorry, inside joke. We’re just messing with Trix.”
“Just so you know, you’re a bunch of jerks,” I said, flushing darker.
Mase gave me another questioning look and I studiously ignored it.
“Oh hey,” Quinn said to him before he could walk away. “I meant to ask if you wanted any chocolate chip cookies. The local high school’s doing a fundraiser for some new sports equipment. Deb’s brother’s the gym teacher there. Anyway, she brought in some sign-up sheets to work and I said I’d ask around.”
She pulled a sheet of paper and a pen out of her bag. “So, have you, ah…seen Deb, since the party? She really liked you, I could tell.”
Mase smiled again, this one pained as well. “No, I haven’t, and I’ll take a pass on the matchmaking from now on.”
“So you’re not interested?” Quinn asked. “She’s attractive and sweet and…”
“She was nice, but yeah, I’m not looking for a relationship, okay?”
Quinn huffed. “Fine. I’ll stop. So how many packets can I put you down for?”
Mase glanced at me again, then back. No, he wasn’t looking for a relationship, he was already in a non-relationship relationship with me.
“Mase?”
“Uh, sorry…um, two?”
I flushed hotter.
“That’ll be ten dollars, if you have it now?” Quinn said, smiling sweetly.
Mase shoved his hand in his pocket, and when he pulled out his wallet, something bright fluttered to the ground.
My gaze sliced to the floor.
No!
Draped across Mase’s right shoe were my bright blue lace panties.
Our table went silent because there was no mistaking what they were.
Ground open up and swallow me right the hell now.
Quinn looked down, then back up at her brother. “Are those panties? Oh my god, those are panties!” She shot to her feet as Mase quickly scooped them back up and shoved them in his pocket. Quinn screwed up her face. “Ew, Mason!”
“I think that’s my cue to go,” Mase said.
Quinn grabbed his forearm. “You just said you aren’t looking for a relationship. Is it because you’re already seeing someone?”
Eves shot me a look, and my belly dipped at what was there in her eyes. She
