can’t really use scales now, but I’m sure they’ll come in handy in the future. He tucked them into his bag and they exited the cave. Hellrazer’s territory was farther southwest, so they headed for the border of its zone. They hadn’t made it halfway to their destination when another set of messages popped up.

You gained 200 experience for killing a target in The Wild Hunt.

Success! You’ve reached Level 8.

Party Chat

PrettyPrincess: The nasty snake is dead. Heading out to look for Swiftfoot.

Ragnarok: Good luck, guys.

His two points for this level he spent to boost his magic. One went into Intellect and the second into Spirit. His mana regeneration rate wasn’t that bad right now, but he knew it could quickly become a problem in the future if he didn’t plan for it ahead of time. With a quicker mana regeneration and a larger maximum pool of 110 mana, they continued on their journey.

The group scoured the area. Briars and thorns covered most of this part of the forest. Stickers snagged on any loose clothing, and Atlas cursed more than once when a stray thorn sunk into his skin. The living conditions here solidified his belief that the animal they hunted was a boar. They were one of the few animals that thrived in these conditions, so they kept their eyes and noses open as they searched.

A whiff of a pungent smell was the first thing that tipped them off. That caused them all to draw weapons as they continued their search. The group pushed through a thin layer of thorns and emerged into a clear circular area surrounded by briars on all sides. The surrounding thorns shook and the beat of hooves sounded through the area. Leaves shook and figures emerged from them.

Five pigs arrayed themselves in a line in front of the party. On each end stood animals that showed up as Runner - Level 5. The two pigs next to them were Gorer - Level 6. And the large boar in the center was Hellrazer - Level 8. Hellrazer was a monster of a pig that had to be five feet tall at the shoulder. Tusks the size of his middle finger jutted from the corners of its mouth and it had reddish hair.

“Anyone fancy some bacon for dinner?” Gemma quipped as she loosed an arrow. The shaft headed for one Runner, but it was quicker and dodged the attack. Both of the Runners ran full speed around the clearing while the Gorer’s charged for the party. Ragnarok intercepted one of them and bashed it in the face with his shield, but the second charged for Atlas.

Fire sizzled into its side, but it never slowed its charge or changed its direction. He hefted his staff and waited for the charge. Stepping to the side, he brought the weapon down on the hog’s back and activated Counter. He swung around to the side and jabbed the staff into the monster’s neck. Blade Chase followed, and the three hit combo thumped into the bony skull of the animal.

An arrow sprouted from its throat and a fire arrow sizzled into its side, sending it to the ground.

You dealt 3 HP damage with Counter.

You dealt 12 HP damage with Blade Chase.

Gorer died.

Confusion rocked the clearing as the two runners darted directly into the group. One smashed into Gemma’s legs, knocking her to the ground while another one clipped Atlas, causing him to stumble to the side.

Runner dealt 3 HP damage to you. (Glancing)

He steadied himself and watched Gemma vault back to her feet. She pulled up her bow and launched an arrow with incredible speed at the pig that hit her. It was so fast she couldn’t hit it, and her arrow skidded across the ground. Atlas heard a muffled cry and turned to see Ragnarok with a puncture wound in his shield arm. Hellrazer attacked him from the side while he held the other Gorer in place.

“We need to get rid of that other Gorer so Rag can focus on Hellrazer. Ignore the Runners for now,” Atlas told them all.

The group nodded and everyone turned their attention to the remaining Gorer. Knowing Rag needed all the help he could get, Atlas activated his Barkskin cast. The motions came smoothly, and the energy launched forward to encase the warrior. His skin and armor rippled with the bark texture and then returned to normal. He activated Nourish after that and began the movements. Shortly before the spell finished, a Runner barreled into him and sent him spiraling to the ground.

Runner dealt 5 HP damage to you with Wild Charge.

Runner interrupted your Nurture cast with Knockdown. Spell backlash dealt 4 HP damage to you.

Pain flashed through his head as the backlash of the spell seeped into his body. He looked up and saw Rag was still doing fine on health, so it wasn’t a critical problem yet, but he needed to address it now. Trying to chase down healing when the targets were already critically low was a dangerous prospect. One lucky critical strike could end them before the heal went through.

Rag lashed out with his shield and the Gorer stepped back with a squeal. Two arrows thumped into its side within a second of each other. A small burst of fire hit it, and the smell of burned hair filled the clearing and caused him to wrinkle his nose in disgust. Seeing both of the Runners on the side of the clearing near Rag, he activated Nourish again.

This time the spell completed, and the magic settled onto the warrior. Atlas watched him breathe a sigh of relief, and the trickle of blood from the wound on his arm ceased. His health bar jumped back up a little and Atlas focused on the fight again. To his dismay, his healing caused the wrong type of attention.

Hellrazer himself turned his attention to Atlas and charged directly for him. The healing spell must’ve pulled aggro. Ragnarok must not have done much damage to the boar
