“I’m not risking it.” He leans over the bed and plants a kiss on my lips. I move away, feeling moody over his rejection again but he just smirks. He’s used to this now.
We had an instant attraction the minute we set eyes on each other. His dad, Gerry, is Vinn’s right hand man and Conner began working for us last year as head of security. Our hook-ups became a regular thing, but recently, I’ve pushed for more. Seeing all my friends settling down makes me want that too, only Conner doesn’t seem too keen, always making up excuses to fuck and run.
He grips my chin in his thumb and finger and forces me to look at him. “Don’t be like this, baby, when we’ve had a great time.” He kisses me again, taking it deeper than before, and this time, I let him. His hands move over my breasts and I drop the sheet. He groans when I reach for his belt. “I have to go,” he whispers. “Save round two for tomorrow.” I pout as he pulls away and heads for the door.
I flick through the television channels with boredom. When my phone lights up, I snatch it up and smile when I see Eva’s name flash on the screen. “Don’t you speak to me enough at work?” I ask.
“Ha, probably. I wanted to check on you after your weird almost fainting episode earlier.”
“You’re so sweet,” I say, lying back on my bed. “I’m all good. Blu made me eat. He took me to some little café where I met this sweet old lady he calls Nan.”
“Blu took you to meet his nan?” she asks.
“Not his nan. He didn’t really explain. Anyway, she was nice and she fed me, so I was fine after that.”
“So Blu showed you his humanity,” jokes Eva. “Shocker. He went on a date tonight,” she adds.
My heart squeezes. Something inside me doesn’t like the thought of Blu on a date. “Yeah, he told me he had a date.”
“And did you know he’s got a kid?”
“No way,” I say, shocked that Blu is responsible for another human. “How do you know all this?”
“Anna told me. Anyway, that’s not the only reason I called. Blu saw Cobra, you know, the guy who hurt Raven, and so Riggs is trying to keep the women close. Anna and I were wondering if you wanted to stop at the club with us?”
“Is it a lockdown?” I ask because the last lockdown was chaos, even though I only stopped over the odd night. “I’m pretty safe here with Vinn.”
“No, he just wants to be vigilant. It’d be like a sleepover,” she says and I smile even though she can’t see me.
“Okay. I’ll stay over and keep you girls company. I’m sure Riggs already spoke to Vinn about us having extra security at work tomorrow. I’ll get some things together and head over.
I tap lightly on Vinn’s office door. “Enter,” he says, and I smirk.
He acts like the lord of the manor. I go in and curtsy. “Sir,” I say with a grin.
“Ha bloody ha,” he says with a sigh. “What do you want? Some of us have work to do.”
I check my watch and shake my head. “It’s nine-o-clock, get yourself a life. I came to tell you that I’m going for a sleepover with Anna and Eva.”
“Aren’t you a little old for sleepovers?”
“Not when I’m single and that place is full of hot biker—”
“Enough,” he snaps. “Riggs mentioned that Cobra was around. He ain’t a threat to us, so why are you going to stay at the club?”
“I just tried to explain that and you cut me off,” I say. “I’m just going to keep the girls company.”
“Um, in a house full of men, I’m sure they’re definitely not lonely.”
“Will we need security at the office tomorrow?” I ask.
“Probably not, but Riggs is sending someone because of Eva,” he mutters. “Stay away from the bikers, Gia. I’m making arrangements for you to have dinner with Ricardo.” He picks up his phone and presses it to his ear. “Get the car ready for Gia. She’s going to the Kings clubhouse.”
I kiss Vinn on the cheek and head out to where Conner is waiting with the car. He doesn’t bother to speak to me for the ten-minute drive, but when we stop outside the club, he turns to me. “Are you coming here because of Blade?”
I roll my eyes. “Like you care.”
“Of course, I care, baby, I just have to work shit out because of Vinn. He’ll skin me if he finds out we’re sneaking around.”
“Then stop sneaking. I’m not ashamed of you. I have no issues with telling him.”
Conner looks panic stricken. “Don’t do that. Let me feel him out.”
I sigh and open the car door. “Don’t bother. It isn’t going anywhere and I’m not gonna be with anyone who won’t even spend the night in my bed.”
I find the girls in the main room sitting on large bean-bags, apart from Leia who sits in an oversized comfy armchair. “I need a drink,” I moan.
“What’s wrong?” asks Leia.
“I just kind of dumped the hot mess I was hooking up with.”
“Is this the same guy you irresponsibly had unprotected sex with and thought you were pregnant by?” asks Leia.
“Don’t judge me,” I scoff, pointing to her rounded stomach. “Miss pregnant after my first time.”
“Rude,” she scowls.
“You never really talk about him, so we all assumed it wasn’t serious,” says Anna.
“It isn’t. It wasn’t. I dunno, I guess everyone around me is settling down and I felt a bit left out. But he’s totally wrong for me and I know without a doubt he sees other girls. He is so far up Vinn’s ass, trying to make something of himself, that I think he thought I’d be his way in. When he realised that Vinn will only let me marry a made man, well, it just became a hook-up for sex.”
“Nice,” mutters
