“What?”
“You’re beautiful all the time. Makeup or not. Panties or not. The collar is...fuck, it’s amazing to see it on you, but it’s not what makes you beautiful either. You just are. Naturally.”
“But...when you asked it was like you didn’t like it.”
“No, that’s what you decided. I asked because I wanted to make sure you were doing this for you and not for me. I love you bare-faced or made up and everything in between. You have Arian in your mind as some kind of comparison, but I can tell you that I don’t. The only time I think of him is when you bring him up. You, what we have, it’s erased Arian and every other person before you. I don’t know how else to convince you of that. I thought the collar would do it.”
His brow furrows as he looks at his feet. “God, I’m an idiot. Sometimes I don’t believe that I actually have you. I’m so sorry, Legend. You deserve better.”
“Better than what?”
“An insecure boy.”
“You’re not. Far from it.” I step closer. “I deserve you. I waited a long time, kissed a lot of frogs, thought I was gonna be alone, and then you showed up. I told your parents this, but I’ll repeat it. I choose you, Bentley, and if life is kind, you’ll be the last choice I ever make. I mean that with my whole heart.”
A smile pulls at his pretty mouth. “You’re a good Daddy. You know just what to say.”
“Because I mean it.”
“I’m sorry. Did I lose my treats?”
“No, baby, you didn’t.”
“Thank you, Daddy.”
“You’re welcome.”
“So, um, I can wear makeup if I want to?”
“Of course.”
“But it’s okay when I don’t?”
“Absolutely.”
“I understand.”
“Good.” He walks into my arms and I hold him, rubbing his back.
“I showed Finn my cage.” Bentley steps back, gazing up at me. “He’s jealous.”
“Maybe if he’s a good boy, he’ll earn one someday.”
“With Matteo?”
I chuckle. “Maybe. We’ll have to see what happens. Did you explain your collar?”
“Oh yes. He thought it was cool. Like even better than a wedding ring.”
His words hit me hard. “Is that something you want? Marriage?”
He shakes his head, but the look on his face is the only answer I need. For a second, I imagine marrying this beautiful man, and it warms me up from the inside.
“We can talk about it when the time is right.”
He nods happily.
“Should we go see our friends?”
“Can I sit on your lap?”
“I would love that.”
The next morning, after a pleasant evening with the boys and Matty, having dinner, chatting, and drinks, I yawn as we make our way to Cedar-Sinai to pick up Ramos. Bentley kept me up late with treats that ranged from cleaning the bathroom to a full-body massage with a truly epic happy ending. I slept like I was drugged. He calls his service tasks treats for him, but I’m the one who reaps the spoils.
As we pull into the hospital parking lot, I have to admit to myself that I’m nervous. I don’t know Ramos, but what he did for Bentley proves to me he’s a good guy. Not to mention that he jumped in front of a bullet to save a mother and child. I’m going with my gut here, and my gut says Ramos is good people.
We search for his room, finding him sitting in the armchair when we arrive. He looks...surprisingly well. Healthy and strong.
Bentley lights up, rushing over to him. “Hi, Ramos. You’re all better?”
He stands a little slow, but he manages it. “Mostly, healed up, yeah. Gotta take it a little easy still.”
I walk over and shake his hand. “You look well.”
“Thanks, man. I think, uh, even though I don’t like how I got here, it’s been kind of nice not looking over my shoulder all the time, you know? I’ve been sleeping, eating three meals, just resting.”
“You needed that,” Bentley says. “You took care of everyone else but yourself.”
Ramos laughs softly. “I can’t fight you on that. It’s true.” His eyes move to me. “You sure this okay, man?”
“We’re here, aren’t we?”
He smiles. “Yeah, you are. I can’t thank you enough.”
“Do we need to get your clothes from your place?” Bentley asks.
“Nah, I ain’t going back there.” He points to a bag on the bed. “My sister got my stuff for me. The stuff I need. I have a little money in my pocket. I’ll buy some clothes.”
Bentley nods but looks concerned. “Is your family upset you got hurt?”
“My sister was. She’s the only one who talks to me. They didn’t like it when they found out I was into guys.”
“Are you gay?” Bentley asks.
Ramos shakes his head. “Bi.” He shrugs. “I guess. I haven’t been with a girl in a long time, but I used to date them. It was cool.” He grins. “But, uh, men are pretty sweet too. I guess you guys know that.”
I chuckle. “I’m aware.”
“The only thing I ever wanted from a girl was makeup tips,” Bentley says, smiling.
Ramos laughs. “Nothing wrong with that.”
“Let’s get you out of here,” I say, grabbing his bag.
Ramos gets checked out, and after refusing a wheelchair, we make our way down. I grab the car while Bentley waits with Ramos. Matty insisted on moving to a hotel this morning to give Ramos a safe place to rest and heal and not feel like he was crowded. Based on the looks they were sharing last night, I won’t be surprised if Finn volunteers to go with him.
Once we’re home, Bentley and I help Ramos to the guest room. It’s nicely made up with a change of sheets. Matteo’s doing.
Ramos looks around the room. “I never slept anywhere as nice as this. I feel out of place.”
“You’re not,” Bentley says. “We want you here.”
“He’s right.”
Ramos turns to me. “So, um, did you like, win the lottery, or is porn a good job?”
I laugh. “Porn is a damn good job.”
“Wow.”
Bentley waggles his eyebrows at me. Ramos has
