"Okay, out with it," I say.
He sighs and steps up to me hold each of my arms.
"I just talked to Landon. He caught Branden outside the house. When he confronted him, he said he wanted to talk to you. Landon let him believe you took off after you fought with him. As in moved out, took off."
He bites his lip, as he holds my gaze. I don't even have to ask him what else he has to tell me, because he launches right into it.
"Also, Landonβs private investigator has been digging into Branden hard, and basically, he doesn't exist. Which means, he's probably using a fake name to hide from something. So, Landon logged into your cloud account to get a few photos of him to run some photo analysis on."
Dallas's grip tightens on my arms, as he says this. I'm kind of pissed Landon was in my account without permission, but we did have our phones off, and I did give him the password a while back. Anyway, I don't keep anything on there I don't want him to see.
I sigh and shake my head.
"Okay, what now?" I ask.
Dallas just stares at me, like he's waiting for the other shoe to drop.
"What?" I finally ask.
"I expected you to get upset or freak out. I don't know."
"What good is it going to do? You and Landon already talked, and I'm guessing you have a plan?"
"Yes, we both agree having you at the house is best. We can protect you better there. As normal, you take Mason with you, if you leave the house, and heβll be there, if we have to leave you alone. Which will happen, because we have some meetings lined up."
"Okay," I say.
"Okay?"
"Well, I don't want to be alone anyway. This is all giving me the creeps. That day he showed up, he seemed off. I can't put my finger on it."
"Alright, then weβre heading straight home. I'm going to call Landon and you on a three-way call, as we get closer, and heβll watch the cameras to make sure Branden isn't nearby. If heβs there or if you see him, you keep driving past the house and circle the street back out the gate. Then, head back this way to the cabin, and Iβll be right behind you. Okay?"
"Fine. Wouldn't it just be easier, if I hit him with my car?" I try to joke.
A forced smile finds its way to Dallas's face, before he pulls me into a hug.
"I love you, crazy girl." He whispers in my ear.
"I love you too, my protector."
Thank God for automatic shut off pumps, because I'm pretty sure my gas tank was filled a while ago. I finish up, and once Dallas is ready, we get back on the road. The closer we get to home, the more my nerves kick into gear.
Will he be there? What does he want? Is all this because he wants me back? After three months? What is wrong with this guy? Why won't he leave me alone?
In no time flat, I have myself worked up, so I do the one thing that will calm me down. I call Dallas.
"Hey, baby. You okay?" His voice fills the car, and instantly, I feel better.
"Just talk to me. Whatβs going on with the label youβre starting?"
He talks, until it's time to call Landon, and then the two of them control the situation. I might admit it to Dallas, but never to Landon that I feel so much better, when they take control, that way and I can just clear my mind, and do as they tell me, too.
Again, a tidbit my over controlling brother doesn't need to know. Another fact that might work out great in the bedroom with my sexy-as-hell boyfriend. Such confusing thoughts. I smile at that thought, as I pull into the garage and shut off the car.
The call disconnects, and Dallas is at my door, before I even get a chance to open it. He pulls me into his arms, and everything is okay again.
When I walk inside, Landon is standing there, looking unsure and watching us. Though Dallas has his arm around my waist, he doesn't seem mad, he's just watching. I drop my bag, walking to him and wrapping my arms around Landon, and he holds me just as tight.
"Thank you," I tell him.
"Always. For you, always." His classic line he's been telling me, since we were kids. I know right then things will be okay with us. I just need to make sure theyβre okay with Dallas and him, too.
"Let's go sit down and talk," Landon says, as he lets me go, and I follow him into the living room with Dallas right behind me.
I sit on the couch with Dallas beside me, and Landon sits across from me on the love seat just watching us again.
"I'm not sure what Dallas told you," Landon starts. "But my guy was able to track Branden down to his last job and all his info is fake. He says he only sees things like this, when theyβre running from the law. He thinks if we can get fingerprints, then we can track him, but we don't have a way to do that."
"Unless I do it," I say, connecting the dots.
"Which is not an option," Dallas growls. "He's getting desperate, and we don't know what he wants. This isn't normal behavior, and if he's running, we don't know what his plans for you were. Again, I repeat, it's not an option."
"I agree," Landon says. "But in the meantime, youβre not to be alone, ever. I want you to limit going out. I won't keep you trapped here, but I don't want you going out more than needed either."
"When you
