Raven nodded. βI suppose itβs a good thing.β
βIs it?β
βUntil the next terrorist comes along.β
βIβm sure the president will make a wonderful speech taking credit for everything.β
Raven laughed without humor. βYeah, if he can remain lucid enough.β He let out a heavy sigh. He sagged against the soft pillows propping him up.
βIβll let you get some rest,β Macedo said. βWeβll be back in the Med in a day or so.β
βHow many people died in the attacks, Greg?β
Macedo looked sad. βToo many.β He walked away.
Raven closed his eyes. Heβd recover and live to fight another day. Tanya Jafari was dead, the Islamic Union with her, but theyβd lost so much in the fight, he still felt a sense of defeat.
There was no victory. Only pain and regret. If heβd been a little sharper in the beginning, maybe the disaster could have been avoided. Or maybe he was fooling himself. Deep down, nothing would have stopped her plan. If she hadnβt reached out to him, sheβd have found somebody else.
But now it was time to rest.
When he felt better, he decided to go to London and check on Misty Watson.
Perhaps together they could share some desperately needed R&R.

About the Author
A twenty-five year veteran of radio and television broadcasting, Brian Drake has spent his career in San Francisco where heβs filled writing, producing, and reporting duties with stations such as KPIX-TV, KCBS, KQED, among many others. Currently carrying out sports and traffic reporting duties for Bloomberg 960, Brian Drake spends time between reports and carefully guarded morning and evening hours cranking out action/adventure tales. A love of reading when he was younger inspired him to create his own stories, and he sold his first short story, βThe Desperate Minutes,β to an obscure webzine when he was 25 (more years ago than he cares to remember, so donβt ask). Many more short story sales followed before he expanded to novels, entering the self-publishing field in 2010, and quickly building enough of a following to attract the attention of several publishers and other writing professionals. Brian Drake lives in California with his wife and two cats, and when heβs not writing he is usually blasting along the back roads in his Corvette with his wife telling him not to drive so fast, but the engine is so loud he usually canβt hear her.
