dress meant she was revealing a lot of boob and to the extent that a nipple made an appearance. This was in plain view of both Harold and Greg. My first thought was to help her register this fact. Then I thought no, Greg was on point for pointing out any possible wardrobe mishaps. Besides that, she’d been topless all afternoon.

When Susan straightened, she gave Greg a kiss on his cheek before offering him a bite of her tamale pie. This firmly reset my mind. I looked at Marci in her wonderful top and slim jeans and found this sight rejuvenating. She was talking to Harold in between licking her fingers, having not enjoyed complete success transferring food to her mouth.

She and Harold were getting along especially well. I thought of her being with him and felt a distinct absence of ease along with a profound excitement. She had said she would do it for me. I looked at Meg. She hadn’t purposely “sexed herself up” for the evening, but she did look especially sexy. She was wearing a tight top and there was a hint of nipple shadow. In addition, her tight, white Capri pants fit her perfectly, exposing slim calves and delicate ankles. Her sandals were high-heeled, and her whole effect was strikingly feminine as well as provocative.

Harold appeared on the balcony and I wondered if he knew I was having lascivious thoughts about his wife.

“Hey there,” he said.

I nodded an acknowledgment. We looked into the surrounding darkness. The ocean was visible and contrasted with the darker shoreline wandering north and south. There were few exterior lights at this end of the condo development.

“Look,” he said. “I thought we should talk.”

I turned to face him, leaning one elbow on the balcony railing.

“I know you’re a brooder, Ryan. That’s one of the reasons why I like you. You’re a thinker too.”

“Thanks.”

“But don’t over think this. I’m sure you’re picking up that Meg and Susan are getting along notably well.”

“In fact, I have noticed.”

“Well, Meg told me she thought something was there. Now that Susan knew of Gail, she was opening up to her.”

“And Meg is opening up to Susan. That’s the picture I got.”

“And you’re okay with it?”

“I am. I trust Susan. If it’s what she wants, I want her to have it.”

“Okay.”

“How do you feel about it?”

“The same. I trust Meg completely. What she wants is okay with me.”

“It’s definitely a unique situation,” I said. “Do you ever worry about where it could lead?”

“Not really. We’re smart now. We’ve agreed on everything that is or isn’t possible. That talk came after Meg’s affair. I’m thankful it happened for that reason alone. It forced us to be honest with each other.”

“I think we’re good there too,” I said. “We’ve all discussed it, and we keep discussing it.”

“There’s really no other way. You have to know what each other is thinking as you go. Things evolve and you can’t always anticipate how you’ll feel with each twist and turn, like this thing between Susan and Meg. It may just be something they have to get out of their systems, or it may take their relationship to a new level. Either way, they’ll know. They’ve got the freedom to find out.”

“They won’t have to sit and wonder about the ‘what if?’.”

“To tell you the truth, I think having an open marriage like this is the secret to a long, happy life together. It takes the pressure off and keeps it lively. Meg couldn’t wait to hear about my night with Emily, just like I couldn’t wait to hear about her night with Gail. We made love like teenagers as we shared our stories. It was passionate as hell. You can’t buy that passion in bottle form, or through marriage counseling.”

“Hey guys!” said Marci, joining us on the balcony. Her timing was perfect. I had sensed I was on the verge of asking Harold if he wanted to sleep with Susan. I already knew the answer, and there was no point in asking the question.

“Boy talk?” She put her arm around me.

“Hi, Marci,” said Harold. “No, just talk.”

“I think your wives want to bang,” she said.

“A consensus seems to be forming to support that assumption,” I said. “We were just discussing it.”

“So, boy talk after all.”

“In a fashion,” said Harold. “We’re were also saying how lucky we are to have such attractive wives. Well, Ryan has two attractive wives.”

“Oh, thanks, Harold! You did mean me, right?”

“I did.”

Marci gave him a peck on the cheek. “Hey, you have Emily too. She’s hot.”

“I won’t deny it. But so far we’re not calling her my vacation wife.”

“Ryan and I have moved beyond that. Is bigamy legal anywhere?”

Harold laughed. “I think you’d be fine in Saudi Arabia. We could open a branch there for Ryan.”

“See,” said Marci. “Everything always works out one way or another.”

Meg, Susan, and Greg appeared on the balcony.

“We’re going up to the roof!” said Meg. “They’ve got a hot tub up there!”

I looked at Marci and imagined her undressing in front of Harold and Greg. The image stirred in my mind and excited me. I knew Greg had already seen her naked, and Harold had seen her topless, but neither of them had seen her undress.

I looked into Marci’s eyes. They smiled at me. They said, “Whatever you want, I want too”.

We followed the others up the spiral staircase.

Chapter 32: Room For Everyone

NIGHT MOVES

Greg opened the roof bar and mixed us all drinks. He was a natural and unstumpable bartender. I ordered a rusty nail and he didn’t flinch. Fully stocked bars made for good neighbors, especially when they followed them on the road.

Not that we needed any more to drink. We were all feeling quite loose, and Meg and Susan had become noticeably more frisky.

The rooftop lighting was low-key and perfect for setting an intimate mood. No one dashed for the hot tub. Greg said it was custom-built and was really almost a heated pool due to its size.
