and this doesn’t look like the scene of some crazy chick keying cars and starting trouble.

It looks more like a scene from a movie. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 to be exact. The center of the bar has been transformed. Wisteria drapes from the ceiling in white, lavender-blue, bright pink, purple, lilac, and mauve. It seems to be backlit. Petals have fallen to the floor as well.

A stage has been placed underneath the gorgeous canopy of flowers. On it stands Tak at a vintage mic with girl next to him at another mic. Behind them is an orchestra.

“I’ll take that.” I turn to my father who beams at me as he pries the bat from my fingers.

“He did all this for me?” I ask like a butthead.

“Yes, he did,” my aunt says as she and Shawna appear holding a gown and shoes.

“I told you I love the way he loves you. Come on. Let’s get you dressed,” Shawna says.

I’m on the verge of bawling like a baby. I follow behind them, looking over my shoulder at Pit. In dawns on me that I raced here to beat some chick down and now I look crazy to my family.

Asshole, I mouth to Pit, but a smile is still on my lips. He tosses me a wink as he stands with his hands in his pockets. I love this man so much.

“Wait, we’re not getting married today, right? This is not how I wanted my hair,” I say.

“Shut up,” Shawna laughs. “Just come on.”

Pit

I don’t think I thought about how long it would take her to get dress or the trip from the nail salon here. I’m starting to get anxious to get this all over with. Thoughts have tried to sink in and tell me she won’t choose me. I’m not good enough.

I’ve squashed those down hard. Old habits, but I won’t let them steal this from me. Ox walks over and straightens my tie, then he pats my cheek.

“I’ve always admired your willingness to jump in headfirst. This is a good look for you,” he says.

“She’s a good look for me. I wish I would have thought to get the ring I wanted designed from the beginning,” I say and frown at myself.

I was so focused on doing this perfectly, I almost didn’t get to today, but here we are. The perfect ring is burning a hole in my pocket and my woman’s getting ready. I take a deep breath. This is happening.

The orchestra starts to play and Tak begins to sing. I whip my head in the direction of the card room Mayven should becoming through. My heart skips a beat.

Her aunt called in a favor and had a lace replica designed of Bella’s wedding gown from Twilight. Of course, it’s black on top and multicolored as it flares out into a trail at the back. She looks… I don’t have words for it.

Her makeup is flawless as always and her hair, she’s let her real hair down. It’s not covered by the unit she stormed in wearing. When she stops in front of me, I note she’s not covering her scar either. I nod, this is who we’ve become.

I reach for her face and trace my fingers along her scar then down her cheek. I have to pull my hand away to drag it down my face. I feel like I’m living a dream.

“Give me a sec,” I say and swallow as she looks up at me expectantly.

Her glossy lips are trembling, and her lashes are wet. I didn’t think this was going to be this hard. I clear my throat and place my hands on her waist and kiss her forehead.

I begin to sway to the music. Tak and a friend of mine are singing a duet cover of “In My Arms” by Johnnyswim. This was the perfect song for this.

“I want to be in your arms when I take my last breath,” I breathe against her skin. “I want to know I lived a long life, I enjoyed my days and nights, and that I did it all with you.

“When I wake in the mornings, I reach for you because you’re my anchor to this world. If I can touch you, anything else I need to do is more than possible. Do you know why?” I pull away and look her in the face.

“No,” she says shakily.

“Because you were the impossible. I never thought I’d get to hold you, never thought I’d get to love you or have your love, not like this. I’ve wanted you for so long but having you.” I shake my head. “That was some impossible shit. You’ve taught me how to love, Mayven, not just protect, but love.

“I want to spend the rest of my life loving you and learning ways to laugh more, smile more, breathe more. You, you are the reason I breathe these days. I need you to survive,” I say.

I pause, take a deep breath, smile and lean in to her ear. “You already know I’m not giving this pussy up, so Mayven, you marrying me or what?”

“Oh my god, you just took the most perfect proposal and messed it up, you asshole,” she says and laughs. “I hate you so much.”

“Is that a yes?”

“That’s an I want a do-over.” She pouts.

I drop to my knee and pull the ring out. “I had a feeling you were going to say that. I can’t breathe without you, baby. Spend the rest of your life with me. Be my wife. Let me give you the world. I love you, Mayven. Will you marry me?”

I open the ring box, but she doesn’t even look at it. She cups my face and kisses me. I deepen the kiss and groan.

“That was better. Yes, William Nicky Knight, I’ll be Mrs. Knight. You’re stuck with me, remember?”

I growl and stand. “I’m not complaining.”

She gets this mischievous smile. “What?” I say, my lips turned up.

“I know he likes
