βNo, sorry, Wyatt. I donβt know who that is. I donβt think I have ever worked on her either. I would have remembered a pretty one like that.β Snow, the local tattoo artist joked around, until he saw the serious look on my face. I wasnβt fucking joking and it was about time that he figured it the fuck out.
βSeriously, I donβt know her. You know that I would tell you if I did.β Snow might have gotten into a bit of trouble when he was younger but he was on the up and up now. We called him Snow because he was as pale as a fucking ghost and his hair was so blond it almost looked white. Not to mention the light blue eyes. First glance you would think he was albino but that wasnβt the case. He just was very fair skinned.
βFine, if you hear anything let me know.β I turn to walk away.
βWhen are you going to come back to finish that piece that youβve been dragging your ass on?β He picks up one of his tattoo guns and begins fiddling with the barrel.
I run my hand over my arm and the half-finished tattoo on my shoulder. He did the outline and some of the shading but I had to leave on a case before it was done. I had yet to come back and finish it. βSoon, for sure. Iβm thinking about getting a full back piece too. Winnie gave me an idea.β
βAh, the genie?β
βYeah.β
βIβm with it. I think all of you guys should get it.β
I chuckle, βOf course you do, youβre the one thatβs going to get paid.β
The roar of motorcycles catches my attention as I step out of the tattoo shop. Cody and Brendan roll up. Scowls on both of their faces.
βWhatβs up, any news?β
βNothing. All of a sudden no one knows shit about shit,β Brendan replies.
I fix my gaze on my brother, if there is anyone besides me who hates to be given the run around itβs him. βYou think thereβs more that we arenβt seeing, donβt you?β
Cody shoves his lid on the back of his bike and looks over to us. βNo shit, there is something that we arenβt seeing. There is no way that no one knows anything. I mean these girls were found right here in the area and no one even knew they were missing. Shit doesnβt smell right. It smells like bureaucracy bullshit.β
I roll my eyes and try to keep my cool. Cody is a hothead and strongly believes that everything is a conspiracy. Unfortunately, with him being an ex-FBI agent most of the things that he says are pretty accurate.
βI donβt see why they would try to keep something like this away from everyone. I mean it doesnβt make sense.β I run my hand through my hair, tugging slightly on the way through. Why would the bureau hide the disappearance of these girls?
βIf you have an open case that you canβt seem to find any clues on donβt you think they would have told the public that they did all that they could instead of admitting that they failed? Of course, they would hide it. If they push it to the front of the news now, folks might actually expect them to do something.β Cody shrugs his shoulders.
I donβt want to admit it but heβs right. No one was asking any questions about it right now so there was no reason for them to admit that they had fucked up.
βShit, fine. Letβs see if Winnie found anything.β
We all hop on our bikes and ride toward the clubhouse. Winnie is already there when we roll up.
βHey, did you hit a dead-end too?β I activate the kickstand on my bike and make sure that it canβt fall over. The outside of the clubhouse is all dirt but that doesnβt mean itβs less damaging to the bike.
βActually, yeah but not in the way I would have liked.β Winnie walks up to us and shows us a photo on his phone. It was a woman with bright green hair. She had three rings in her nose and two in her eyebrow. The photo shows her with her tongue sticking out and the rock on hand gesture. She looks happy.
βWho is this?β I ask, handing the phone back to Winnie.
βThis is Stella. She was here on vacation before she went back home to Canada. Sheβs a complete free spirit which is why no one really looked into her. Sheβs been missing for over a month now.β
Dread seized my stomach. βWhat the fuck! What do you mean sheβs been missing for more than a month?β
I spoke with a girl named Lisa, she works in town at Roasted as a barista. She said that Stella came down to party with her and her boyfriend. She was supposed to be back home a month ago but she never showed up. The only problem is she is known for doing things like this, so the local PD hasnβt really done much to find her. The girlβs parents arenβt even that particularly worried.β Winnie shrugs his shoulder.
βThatβs fucking crazy,β Brendan growls out. βSheβs gone for a month and no one bothered to raise the fucking alarm? What the hell is going on around here.β
βI havenβt the slightest idea but I donβt think itβs over.β I look over to the horizon and can see the acres upon acres of forest. Something is going on and everyone seems to want to take a blind eye to it.

I inhale deeply trying to fill my lungs with the mountain air. We have been searching for answers about what is going down for more than a week but still no one seems to know anything. To say itβs fucking frustrating is an understatement. I tried once again to get my boss to look into the case but he basically told me in no uncertain terms that if I continued to look into it I was itching for a suspension.
