Thief for Hire

The next morning I got up early, I quickly ate breakfast then hurried to town determined to talk to Bob. When I arrived to Bob's store bob was just opening the store.

"Good morning Bob."

Bob turned and glared at me, yet I kept smiling.

"Not you again."

I leaned onto the counter as Bob was wiping it clean.

"Well someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." I looked at him with a sarcastic look.

"What do YOU want?" Bob asked me in an annoyed tone.

"Well I wanted to ask if you were hiring at the moment?" I looked at him with hoping eyes.

"I'm not even going to answer. We don't hire crooks."

I sighed then faced him with a serious look determined to tell him the truth.

"Mr. Torrez, I think its time that I tell you what really happened those nights. I wasn't..."

"Doing the right thing by stealing. My father will never hire you again and I will make sure of it." Jason interrupted me as he walked out of the back room.

I glared at Jason, "Don't interrupt me. You clearly know that isn't what I wanted to say."

"I don't care what you have to say. If you aren't gong to buy anything then get out of here."

I furiously grunted and slammed my hands on the counter. I swiftly turned and stormed out of the small store.

I angrily walked all the way to the auto shop. Once I reached my father I kicked a can that was laying on the floor and my father turned to look at me.

"What's wrong?"

"Everything! My future is ruined. How am I going to get a job? Bob doesn't want to hire a 'crook'. No one will want to hire a thief."

"Actually someone is willing to overlook that fact if that so called thief is a great female auto mechanic."

I quickly looked at my father shocked and wide-eyed, "What?"

"I talked to Gorgie and I convinced him that it would be good for us if we were to hire a female mechanic."

I grinned then quickly hugged him, "Oh my gosh. Thank you!"

Though at first he was hesitant he slowly wrapped his arms around me. After a few second he let go.

"Well if you want that job then you better go talk to him. He should be in his office."

"Alright I'll be right back."

I quickly rushed to Gorgie's office. Once I reached it I knocked and waited until he allowed me in. I walked in and closed the door.

"Hey Gorgie. Wait, Mr. Mejina."

Gorgie looked up at me and smiled, "Relax Lillian. I have been and always will be Gorgie to you."

I smiled and sat down in one of the seats in front of his desk.

"My father said he has spoken with you about possibly hiring me."

"Well, I have to admit it was a difficult decision taking into consideration your... difficult past. But... I know for a fact you are a great mechanic and you are a girl. You would easily attract people to our auto shop."

I smiled softly towards Gorgie, "So I'm being hired for my body."

"No! Of course not."

I looked at Gorgie skeptically and he shrugged his shoulders.

"Its your expertise as well."

I shook my head as I smiled. He gave me the uniform and then I walked out. I said goodbye to my father then rushed home.

"Mother! guess who has a job now."

My mother came up to me and we both exclaimed in happiness.

"I will be working at the auto shop."

"That's great sweetheart."

We hugged then we continued doing our house chores.

Just as I was finishing the phone rings.

"I got it." I quickly shouted before answering the phone, "Hello?"

Celebration

"Hello?"

"Hey! I heard about the great news. Congratulations." Amy's voice responded.

I instantly grinned, "Thanks!"

"OMG, we need to celebrate!"

I shook my head instantly regretting my response, "Sure."

"OMG yes!"

"So We'll meet up at Mary's CafΓ© in..."

"What! No no no. We are women now miss. We don't go to CafΓ©s to celebrate."

I rolled my eyes and smirked, "Then what do we do?"

"We drink!" Amy began to scream.

'Oh no. I don't know how Amy is when she drinks alcohol. It's definitely not safe.' I quickly thought to myself but before I could even protest Amy began to speak.

"I'll pick you up at nine thirty be ready." Not one sound was able to exit my mouth before she hung up.

"Mom. I'm going to go shower and get ready Amy wants to take me out to celebrate."

"Alright. So I'm guessing that means you won't be joining us for dinner." She came into my view as she stepped out of the kitchen.

"Nope. I hope it's fine."

"Your grown up already. You don't necessarily need our permission anymore." She smiled as she explained it to me.

"Yeah I might be all grown up but I still live with my parents." I quickly crossed my arms and raised my right eyebrow.

"Not exactly by choice. Now go upstairs and get ready." She turned away and continued to prepare dinner.

I swiftly ran upstairs and took a shower. When I got out I went through the clothes that I had and decided I would wear a short black strapless dress with nude pumps. I did my makeup simple with a natural look. I straightened my hair and left it loose. Just as I was looking at my reflection I heard my mother call me from downstairs.

"Lillian, Amy is here."

I grabbed my small purse and put some money I have stored away inside of it then rushed downstairs.

"All ready to go." I looked at Amy and noticed how much she's change.

She had on a dark blue mini dress with a very-neck. She paired it with black pumps and a black necklace.

"You look great!" I smiled just a I reached her.

"OMG so do you!"

We both giggled. I said goodbye to my mother then we headed out to her car.

She played some music and got us pumped. By the time we got into the club I was ready to drink something. When we got to the bar Amy ordered both our drinks. I wasn't sure what she had said since I was pretty loud. We grabbed our drinks then we went to a table to sit down. We both sat there drinking our beverages and swaying to the music.

Just as I was finishing my drink Amy got up and pulled me into the crowd of people.

I have never been surrounded by so many people. It felt like a sauna. We both danced to the rhythm of the music and I was having a great time. I hadn't felt as great as I did then in a very long time.

After a few songs I got close to Amy so she could hear me, "Where's the restroom?"

She quickly pointed in a direction, "I'm going to go get more drinks."

I nodded my head then headed in the direction she had pointed.

Just as I was heading back to Amy I was pulled back and pushed up against the wall. I was trapped between the wall and a very muscular body. I looked at the man's face and instantly recognized him.

"John Kinderwood. I knew you eventually find me." I smirked as I teased him.

He looked down at me with a smirk. Then unexpectedly he leaned down.

John

I quickly pushed him away, rolled my eyes and began to walk away.

He grabbed my arm and turned me around.

"Is that really how you're going to greet me?"

I smile and turn to face him, "Oh I'm sorry, you're right."

I put my arms onto his chest and slide my hands up around his neck. I get close to him and he gets closer to me. Just as our lips were inches away I quickly knee him and he groans, slowly falling to the ground. I smile and quickly head back to Amy.

Afterwards I didn't see John the rest of the night. We stayed pretty late but I reminded Amy I had work the next day so we left before one in the morning.

The next morning I woke up and took a shower. I got ready and headed to work with my father. I began working immediately. It felt amazing getting to do what I enjoy once again. It feels like forever since the last time I had fixed a car. It reminded me of all of the good memories before all the bad.

I was working on a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, I leaned over looking at its beautiful engine when someone suddenly hovers over me.

I look over and see a very upset man.

"You know that wasn't very nice, what you did last night." John stood with his arms crossed, intensely starring at me.

I turned around and leaned against the truck, "Oh I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't thinking about you're feelings."

I rolled my eyes and turned back around.

He stepped closer to me then my father came around the truck and joined us. John stopped and grinned towards my father.

"Mr. Portman, how are you?" John smiled and held out his hand.

After a second my father took his hand and they quickly shook before my father returned to his cross armed stance.

"What can we help you with, John?" My father questioned John with a stern tone.

"I was just welcoming Lillian back into town." John smiled.

I turned around, crossed my arms, and gave him a sarcastic look.

"Well I'm glad my daughter still has some friends here in town." My father relaxed and gave John a small smile.

"Of course, she will always have a friend here." John smiled and looked at me.

I glared at him,"Thanks, friend."

I quickly stretch out my arm and punch his arm.

He grabs his arm but shakes it off with a fake laugh.

"Well I should get going. I'll see you around, friend. Goodbye Mr. Portman."

John smiled then left. My father turned to me and smiled.

"How about we go to lunch together today.
