I was dressed all in black and ready for my night time excursion. I had ventured out into the mansion and amassed quite the pile of keys to try on that lock. I know it was probably wishful thinking but if all else failed they kept bolt cutters in the shed I think. I tucked my hair up into my beanie and pulled it down low. I walked out of my pink fortress and into the hall careful not to make much noise.
I walked hall after hall on my way to the door. When I finally arrived it was a huge relief seeing as i'm clumsy and loud and almost broke two expensive vases on the way. Nonetheless I made it and it was a miracle. I slowly opened the back french doors feeling the crisp embrace of the night air.
I breathed. In. Out. In. Out. The grass was slippery from the dew already forming on each of the little green stalks. I wish it would have been a bigger yard. If so maybe I could turn back. Maybe I could realise that this was stupid and childish. What would I do once in there? What if I was eaten alive or lost? Dear lord I didn't even know what all was in there, or how big it was, or why it was even locked. But oh too soon I found myself looking up at the towering gate making my 5β2β stance seem even less impressive than usual. I touched the cool metal and closed my eyes as the shock of cool covered my body my mind went numb bringing in unpleasant memories.

Jack. I stood by him looking back at our parents while holding onto the gate of our school. His first day at Remington academy for the extraordinary, or RAE as most called it. It was a hulking building of brick surrounded by a thick barred fence, built for special people as my mother explained it. I smiled widely at my parents and looked at Jack. His terrified face was an unusual sight for sure. I waved to our parents who left needing to hurry off to work.
Crouching down in front of Jack I looked into his eyes while stroking his head.
βI don't wanna go. They won't like me I can see it. They'll laugh at me.β he sniffled out.
βJack, what have I told you those silly seeings aren't always right you little donut hole.β I tickled his tummy getting a giggle.
βBut they are...β He whispered trailing off in thought .
βHey kiddo, you'll always have me. Ill be with you at lunch if you want and at breaks.β
βI love you Summy, know that when i'm gone.β His little kindergarten hand cupped my cheek and I felt like the child. He had a way of doing that to me.
βCβmon, let's go huh?β
βOkay.β and we toddled up the steps.

βShit, get yourself together this is stupid.β I whispered angrily to myself swiping at the rebel tears escaping my eyes. I picked out a key and held it to the lock It didn't work. Nor did any of the others. I was out I hope and turned to hide back in my fortress when a silver glimmer shown from the grass I lent down to find a dainty little key that would never work but sure enough tada!
I cracked open the gate and stepped in to find...Beauty. I had never seen something so, beauty.
