"How about you?" I inquired.
"What? Am I jealous of Katie's fame? No! I love her. She's my best friend and I support her." She uttered looking down.
"No, I know you're not. What I mean is, what about you and Chelsey?"
"Oh that. When Katie moved, she started getting attention. I mean, we. She wanted so bad to get me out of her sight so she could get more attention. She looks at me not as a friend but as a mortal enemy because we are always compared. She told everyone that I have bad breath, body odor and many more stinky lies about me so that everyone will stay away from me." We're slightly interrupted when our order arrived.
"Here's your order. Just tell us if you need anything." The waiter placed our frappes on the table.
"Thanks." Faith and I spoke in unison. When the waiter walked away, we started laughing. Faith cleared her throat.
"Uhm. So, how about you?" She asked sipping her coffee. "You were about to say something about your brother right? And why did you moved here to New York?" She started throwing many questions at a time.
"Okay! Okay! I'll tell you. One at a time.." She nodded and I told her everything. Well, almost. Not all actually. That would take a day if I tell her. Haha. But she's a good listener though.
"Oh I see. That's pretty serious. But don't you miss your foster parents?" She asked after I told her my story.
"I do. They never left my mind. I always think of how are they, what are they doing and everything." I answered.
"So, does that mean that you still have plans on going back there? Your aunt is in favor with that and will support you anyway, right?" She questioned me again.
"Maybe? I don't know." Was the only words that came out of my mind. The truth is, I really don't know if I want to go back there or not. I'm just so confused.
"Try to keep calm. Don't let your mind be saturated with such problems. I'll be here for you. I promise." She said as she held my hands. I'm so happy I finally found a friend.
I thanked her and she also thanked me for entrusting my secret to her. Faith was the one who paid for the bills and she drove me home.
"Do you wanna come in?" I asked her.
"No, no. I have to go anyway. Mom's waiting. Hmm. Maybe next time?" She winked.
"Yeah sure! Oh wait! I have a better idea! How about a sleep over?" I suggested.
"That would be great! Sure! Okay! Bbye!"
"Alright then! Thanks, take care!" I waved as she drove away.
I entered the house and saw Aunt Jeni looking so worried.
"Rachelle! Thank goodness you're safe! Where have you been? Are you okay? Why are you not answering my calls and texts?" Oh my. I forgot to change the settings of my phone. It was still turned to silent.
"Sorry auntie. My phone was turned to silent. I forgot to text you and Ethan that my new friend, Faith and I went out. We kinda have a chit chat on the coffee shop. She's the one who drove me home." I said apologizing as I bit my lip. I'm nervous.
"Okay. It's fine. Just don't forget to text me next time okay." Aunt told me and I assured her that I will do that next time. She told me to go to my room and change so I went up stairs. But before I can enter my room, I saw Ethan standing on the door of his room, looking at me smiling.
"So, got your self a new friend huh?" He said smirking. Why does this guy smirk a lot?
"Yep. Faith's nice." I said smiling.
"Yeyea. She's nice." He said rolling his eyes trying to make his voice sound like mine. I playfully punched his arms.
"Hey! I don't sound like that!" I told him.
"Haha. You do." He stuck out his tongue. "But I have one advice to you. Better cover your nose when you're with her." That made my mood changed.
"Why do you guys believe so much with Katie. Okay, look. Maybe I don't know Faith or Katie but I can say that Faith is so much better than her in all ways. And another is, she doesn't have any body odors!" I'm not even aware that I shouted to him because of what he said.
"Okaaaay! Sorry!" He said as he cupped my face to shut me up. I felt my cheeks burned when he did that.
"I-I-I just don't want to see you judging her. She's nice. Believe me." I mumbled.
He let out a sigh. "Okay. Sorry. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Damn. I thought those sayings about her were true." He said scratching his hair in shame.
"I understand. Uh, okay. I'll go and change now." With that, I entered my room to change.
Chapter Five - Signs?
Crying doesn't always mean you're weak, it just means you've been strong and tried acting so numb for too long.
Chapter Five- Signs?
My first week in Xavier High went well and so as with my friendship with Faith. I am also able to catch up some lessons with her help which i'm really thankful about.
I entered my English class earlier than usual. I just feel like going early because I want to read some of my notes before the class starts.
While i'm scanning my notes, I was surprised to see Kyle standing in front of my desk.
"Studying hard, eh?" He flashed his bright smile showing those perfect white teeth. I felt my cheeks turn to crimson as my body temperature heats up due to nervousness.
"H-hi. Just wanna read notes to understand the discussions later." I turn my gaze on my notes so he can't see my face. I'm just too shy to show it to him.
"Sounds good." He smirked. "Guess i'll sit beside you." He made his way to the chair on my right and placed his bag on it never putting his eyes away from me. "Breathe, Rachelle."
"Oh, yeah. Sorry." My heart beat was faster than usual. I felt a relief when I saw faith entered the room.
"Hey Rachelle." Faith hugged me. "Hmm. I smell something here." She whispered on my ears and sat down on the vacant chair beside me.
Mr. Robins entered the class and all of us started to keep quiet when he started his lesson.
It was my first time to feel this strange. Every time I try to stare at the corner of my eyes, I see Kyle looking at me.
The bell for lunch rang. Ah, finally! I walked hurriedly to the cafeteria with Faith.
"Oh my gosh Chelle! He stared at you a while ago! I saw that!" Faith said with full excitement in her voice handing me a tray.
"Maybe you're wrong F, why would he do that?" I asked her seriously. But i'm screaming deep inside because I thought I was the only one who saw Kyle stared at me during our English period.
"Hello? Can't you see? He likes youuuuu! Duh." She rolled her eyes. We started picking our foods and head to an empty table to eat and discuss.
Although I haven't told her about me having a crush on Kyle, she seemed to read my actions so well. Or, was it too obvious?
"How could you tell that he likes me? You never even talked to him." I crossed my arms and faced her.
"Whatever Rach! I don't need to talk to him just to notice that. And besides, i'm not as numb as you not to feel or even see that." I just shrugged when she said that. She took a bite of her burger shaking her head.
Sometimes, I just don't get it why Faith tells me that. I admit I have a crush on Kyle. But does he feel the same way? I was taken aback from my thoughts when Kyle sat beside me while Faith and I were currently having our lunch.
"Hey Rachelle. Can I sit here?" Why do I have to deal with him again? My jaw dropped down when he asked. Faith pinched my sides.
"Ow!" I gave Faith a what-do-you-think-you're-doing look. "Oh, yeah. Uh, of course." I smiled nervously at Kyle. Why does he wants to sit beside me?
"Thanks, so, how was your first week here on Xavier High?" He asked.
"It was fine. I'm happy I met Faith." I replied smiling though I still feel uncomfortable.
He stared at me for a moment. I felt like i'm going to melt by the way he looked at me.
"Is there any dirt on my face?" My voice sounded a bit shaky.
He shook his head and smirked then stood up. "I'll see ya later." Then he winked. What is he doing?
"Seeeeeee! I told you Rachelle Richardson! He likes you!" Faith shouted emphasizing the 'see' word when Kyle is nowhere to be seen.
"It's just, I don't know. I don't understand." I really don't know how to react with what did just happened.
"Actually, I kinda have a strange feeling about him. I mean, you know, he's a player. And being a player means-" I cut her off.
"He only wants girls who's hot or those of cheer leader type. I know Faith. I know." She remained silent. "I do have a point with what I said right? I'm not his type and that's what bothers me. What does those actions of him means then?"
"I don't know. Sorry Rachelle." See? Even Faith can't get it.

When the last period ended, I was surprised to feel Ethan's arms placed on my shoulders. Ugh.
"Rachy!" He grinned like an idiot.
"Why again Ethan..." That sounded more like a boring sentence than a question.
"What's wrong? You look so un-Rachy-like today!" A quiet laugh escaped on my mouth when I heard the 'un-Rachy-like' word.
"Nothing. I'm just a bit tired." I looked up to him slightly smiling.
I hopped in to his car as he opened the side passenger door.
"How gentle man of you, thanks." He ran to the other side of the car and entered.
"That's my middle name cuzzy." He winked. This boy sure has oozing confidence for himself.
The driving went silent until we reached home. Aunt Jeni was sitting on the sofa at the living room. She stood and walked towards me and Ethan. Aunt gave me a kiss on my cheeks and hugged me and so as Ethan.
"So, how's your day?" She asked me.
"It was fine Auntie. Thank you." She smiled and turned to Ethan.
"How about my only boy's day? Hmm?" Ethan frowned when Aunt held his head and messed his hair up.
"Mine was also fine Mom. Please don't do that to my precious hair again." I giggled and Ethan smirked.
We went upstairs and entered our own rooms. I decided to rest on my bed for five minutes or so.
