and maggots spill onto the floor. Luke and Gaska both turn away from the violent darkness. Titus attempts to sit up and Chewbaca shoots him in the chest with his cross bow. And that is the end of Titus.

The astro dog runs over to the carcass of Titus. The dog sniffs and growls at the darkness. Luke uses the force to calm the dog again. The dog looks at Luke and wags its tail and retreats toward Gaska.

“Ben what happened?” asks Leia. “Did Titus hurt you?!”

Wren does not respond to his mother. “He will go to Altura with you. He must complete his training,” says Luke to Leia.

Suddenly two more astro hounds come running into the conference room. They begin tearing at the carcass of Titus.

“Can someone call off the dogs?” Leia asks. Luke is able to use the force to make the dogs stop and look at him.

“These are not dogs,” says Wren moving to retrieve the light saber of Titus where it fell. “They are Georgina's changeling twins! Their mom left them here to find Titus but they are too late! Now they go to Altura with me.”

Chewbaca complains as the dogs change into the boys.

“And will they also complete their training?” asks Luke.

“Yes we will,” says one of the boys.

“We promise that we will, Master Luke” says the other. “We are changelings but we are true to our word.”

“Good,” says Luke. “Now you must leave quickly with my sister before we have more Imperial company.”

“May the force be with you,” says one boy.

“And with the both of you,” says Luke. The boys walk quickly following Wren from the conference room. Wren carries off the light saber of Titus. The three eared astro hound runs after the boys.

“Luke?” asks Leia.

“Go Leia,” says Luke. “They need your help.”

Leia leaves and Chewbaca says something.

“Thank you Chewy,” says Luke. “See you on Altura and take 3Po with you.”

Chewbaca agrees.

“Oh ,” says C3Po. “Goodbye R2. I am sure we will see each other again soon.”

Then Luke and Gaska and R2D2 are alone in the conference room of the Fedora with the carcass of Titus and with the stars and planets of the galaxy above and all around them. Not for the first time in his life, Luke feels the receding darkness balance on the edge of lightness.
