beautiful young teacher who made the choice so many years ago to be his mom.
Molly marries when David is a teenager. Davidโs new dad, Nathan, is wonderful to him. Unfortunately, Mark is not a part of Davidโs life and David has never met him. By a strange twist of fate, Nathan ends up working with Mark at an auto company. They sit in adjoining cubicles and soon the truth becomes known to them both.
Nathan and Molly invite Mark over for dinner and explain to David that he is his natural father. David is happy to meet him, but he knows who his true dad is. Virginia calls later that night and David says to her, โYeah, he was nice and everything Grandma. Iโm glad I got to meet him so I donโt have to keep wondering what heโs like, but Iโve been blessed with you and Nathan. So I guess it doesnโt really matter anymore. You know, sometimes I have a dream about a baby boy. I see him up in heaven with Grandpa Frank. Grandpa says the boy is my uncle. Anyway, it doesnโt make any sense.โ
Silence is on the other end of the phone.
โGrandma, did you hear me?โ asks David.
โYes. That boy is your uncle, David. Let me explain something to you.โ Virginia tells David about her abortion and how Molly came to have him.
David, 15, has started learning about sexuality and is intrigued by this new information. He makes a note to himself that he doesnโt want to struggle as Molly had, working so hard through school and raising a son; nor as his grandma had, carrying the burden of the abortion; nor as Mark had, never truly knowing his own son. David decides to wait until he gets married to have sex. Then he will be able to appreciate Godโs gifts, including any children with which he is blessed.
David becomes a pediatrician and a speaker against abortion. He marries in his thirties and has three lovely little girls. He names them Molly, Virginia and Faith. Davidโs grandmother, Virginia, remains active in the anti-abortion movement. Molly teaches about human fetal development in science class.
It is a warm spring day and Molly knocks on the door of Davidโs house. She greets him with a hug and runs to her granddaughters, giving a brand new doll to each of them. They hug their baby dolls and admire them, comparing each one to the other. They find each one to be unique and beautiful. Molly smiles at the vision of her granddaughters and then finds tears of joy rolling down her face. She thanks God for all she has been given, including the events on that day so many years ago when she almost made the worst mistake of her life.
